Teenager convicted of luring a 14 year old to a deadly ambush two years ago will now spend decades in prison. A judge handed down that sentence today for Jameer Moore. He was in court this morning and so were the family members of the boy he killed, Javario Bowie. Fox 13's Erin Mesmer joins us live from the Hillsborough County Courthouse. Erin, you spoke with the family afterward. What did they say? Linda, Javario Bowie's family wanted the judge to sentence Jameer Moore to life in prison and before the judge handed down her sentence, Jameer Moore was sentenced to life in prison. Excuse me, Javario Bowie's grandfather spoke directly to Jameer Moore. Real courage is looking at the devastation that you caused and saying, I did that. I took that life. I caused that pain. And there's nothing that I can say or do to undo it. That is where accountability begins. Until you can do that, you may be alive and breathing, but you will remain in prison. That was the kind of emotional testimony that we heard from Javario's loved ones today. A Hillsborough County judge sentenced Javario's killer, Jameer Moore, to 55 years in prison. He'll spend at least 25 years behind bars before he has a chance to get out. The judge pointed out that his age was a big reason why she sentenced Moore to life. He's 17 years old now, but he was 15 when police say he shot and killed Javario. Surveillance video from 2024 shows the two teenagers walking together shortly before Javario's death. Minutes later, Moore was seen without Javario, whose body was found near the railroad tracks. near Bush Boulevard and Rome Avenue. Two years later, Javario's family is still heartbroken. Javario was always playful. Like, he just does a lot of funny stuff. Like, I miss his laugh. I miss his voice. Like, it replays in my head when he calls me mommy. His smile. This is an important chapter to close. We were tired of dealing with it, tired of hearing, like, the experience, tired of having to see his his family and and him you know like just this whole process is an important piece to close but there is no closure investigators believe that Moore lured Javario to the spot where his body was found and then ambushed and murdered him. Moore's mother spoke in court today and said that her son is not a monster and she says her family feels remorse about what happened however her son has never admitted to pulling the trigger in fact He still denies it to this day. It took police nearly a year to make this arrest again. Jameer Moore will spend the next probably 55 years, between 25 and 55 years, behind bars. Linda? Jameer Moore reporting live for us this evening, Aaron. Thank you.
