3 students, 1 teacher dead after a shooting at an Oregon elementary school

Three students, one teacher are dead after shooting at an Oregon elementary school. Authorities say a teenager stormed Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon and then opened fire yesterday afternoon. That suspected shooter also dead. The sun's coming up and now we're seeing the actual school in front of us where there are police tape all around it, around the playground. flowers in front of the sign leading into the school. Classes across the school district are canceled today after this deadly attack. Last night, the community came together to mourn the people who were killed in that shooting, but also the attack on the neighborhood as a whole, saying prayers together. We do know the ages of the children who were killed, five, eight and 11. The teacher, we do not know their age yet. And there is still two people, a seven year old and a 54 year old teacher that are in critical condition at the hospital. No community should have to do what we're doing right now. I don't have any words for what this community is feeling right now and I don't think anyone does. We are heartbroken. We are horrified. This is the kind of thing you hear about in other places and pray that it never happens here and it has happened here. Bend police say the first 911 call came around one o'clock Thursday from someone outside Silver Rail Elementary School saying that someone with a long gun was shooting at them. More calls followed from inside the school. Police arrived minutes later. There they found a suspect, 16-year-old Ben Resident, dead inside. They say the attacker shot at the locked doors to get into the building. Then a bystander saw the suspect go into the school, followed him, then shot and killed him shortly before authorities arrived. Yesterday, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek thanked the Good Samaritan who stopped the attack. And to the community member who heroically intervened to stop further loss of life, your actions carry a heavy emotional burden. And I just want you to know that my thoughts are with you as well. Federal authorities telling Fox that the shooter was carrying a shotgun. Now we don't know any connection that they might have had to the school. We do expect to hear more information from law enforcement this afternoon. John.
