Hi everyone, in this video I decided to do a swipe painting on canvas with the Shelee Art recipe!
Follow along,
To create this swipe painting, I used house paint for the base coat and vibrant Colour Arte pigments for the main color palette. I chose a beautiful pink and three stunning shades of purple mixed with an ultra deep base from Sherwin-Williams. I also included black paint mixed with floetrol. 🎨 To swipe the paint on my canvas, I decided to use a palette knife and a card!
In addition to the main painting, I decided to paint some smaller canvases using the same colors with the bloom technique. I also ended up creating gorgeous coasters using only purple and black. 😃
In today's video, I'm doing a swipe technique
with the Shelley Art Recipe.
I have house paint for my base coat
so it's really nice and thick and then I'm using color
art pigments for my colors.
I have a pink and three shades of purple and I have each of those
mixed with an ultra deep base Sherwin-Williams untinted base for paint.
I got mine at Home Depot.
I know they are starting to discontinue some of this,
but I believe there are other brands of
untinted base that you can get.
And then I just have my black paint mixed with Australian Floetrol
that I will use on the top to create my cells.
Along with my round canvas, I also have
a couple of smaller canvases that I can do some blooms
on and one set of coasters. I have some
different tools for swiping. I grabbed a couple of palette knives.
I also have some of my cardstock
that I like using for my swipes.
If you want to see another awesome swipe like this, you can check
out video 507. I did one on a much larger wood surface with some blues
and greens and it turned
out beautifully. So instead of putting
my black paint right on my canvas, I'm just going to add
it to my table and then dip my swiping tools in it just
so I don't want the black to really take
over so I'm not going to add a lot of it.
Once I had swiped my colors I did grab one of my palette
knives and swiped in a couple of other areas just
to get some more cells and break up some blocks
of pigment that I still had
and then I just let it sit for a minute to just help form more cells
before I started
tilting.
From here you can
tilt as much or as
little as you want.
I like tilting
just to kind of pull out some of those cells
and that really beautiful purple color and remove some
of the white negative space that I have.
But if you like your design the way it is you don't have
to tilt as much if you don't want to.
I just set this one aside
so that I could work on some of my
other pieces and I pretty much do the same technique for all of them.
On my small canvases
I decided to try using my airbrush to blow out
my cell activator instead of a hair dryer like I
normally do. I haven't really used the airbrush
for doing this and I wanted to see how well it
would work and it was okay.
I think with being able to change the pressure and the airflow I'd
probably change it up a little bit
and just control that flow of air a little bit better
but I added my white paint down for my base coat
and then added a small pool of each of the colors
in the middle and then added a small amount of the black on top
and then just used my airbrush
to do the bloom technique and then let it sit for a minute
or two and then tilted just a little tiny
bit. I really liked the way that they looked so I didn't tilt too much.
I had some corners that
needed a little touching up
so I just added some paint to the corners where it needed it
but I liked the design and I really didn't want to tilt out too much
so I think using the airbrush
on a larger piece could be fun in the future
and just see what kind of design I could create
without needing to manipulate it too much after
and for my coasters I ended up not using the pink
I wanted to try something with just the purples I think
the pink in the other pieces gave it a
nice pop of something a little different
but I wanted to see what those purples would look like
all dry and they looked pretty great
so for this one I just puddled the colors
in the middle again put my black on top
and then just gently blew on each of the
coasters to do the bloom technique I
hope you guys like this video let me
know what you think down in the comments below
if there are other colors you want
to see in this I can definitely
do some different color palettes if you'd like I
can also do a quick video showing how I mix each
of my colors for the Shelley
art style I know it is different from a lot
of other techniques I did take her
course
and I learned quite a bit
from it I let them sit
just for a minute or two
and then tilt it out
a little bit
and then I was all
done with those don't
forget to hit that thumbs up and subscribe to my channel I do put out
three videos a week and I will see you in the next one
