It began with the Atlanta Dream and the quest for a championship.
Thanks so much for joining us for Fox 5 News at 6, America.
Well, it wasn't the end that fans wanted.
The Dream dropping game one of the WNBA finals against
the Golden State Valkyrie, 64-68.
But if this was a sign of things to come,
it will be a nail-biting season and a lot of cheers.
Fox 5's Annie Mapp is live at one
of the city's watch parties in Kirkwood.
Kirkwood. Annie, I know it's not what we wanted at the end,
but they still put up a really good
game for game one. Eric, I mean, wow,
what a game that really had fans here in Atlanta on the edge
of their seats the entire time.
I'm live here at Jolene, Jolene in Kirkwood. This is one of the
spots where dream fans could come and watch the action
and cheer on the team together. While many
are leaving here disappointed.
They say they are not giving up on their team just yet. Now this
game had fans on the edge of their seats.
The Dream fought hard but Golden State managed to
hold on for the win taking game one 68 to 64.
Here in Atlanta fans showed up in their Dream gear
ready to support their team as it chases a WNBA championship.
The Dream organized their all for
Atlanta finals watch parties bringing fans together
at places like Jolene Jolene here in Kirkwood
Scott's Brew Pub downtown, and Hudson Grill in Midtown.
And while tonight didn't end the way Atlanta fans hoped,
there's still more basketball to play.
Game two is Monday in San Francisco,
where the Dream will look to bounce back and even the series
before coming back home to Atlanta.
I just want people just to finally really give Angel Reese her props,
finally give the Dreams their props.
Finally we deserve to really be put on the mat with sports.
A huge wave of excitement that lots of people have been waiting for.
Everyone loves women's sports.
And again, Game 2 is Monday, also in San Francisco.
And then the WNBA Championship will continue
for Game 3 here in Atlanta.
Reporting live in Kirkwood, Annie Mapp, Fox 5 News.
All right, Annie, thanks so much.
