so much for tuning in guys let's get into the video
some
anglers
are just
wired to
figure
fish out
they pay
attention
to the
little
things
water conditions timing presentation the subtle changes
that can be the difference between a
tough day and an unforgettable one nick taylor
is one of those anglers as owner and guide behind
full tilt outdoors nick has spent years chasing salmon
and steelhead across the pacific northwest
building his life around these fisheries
and constantly trying to understand them at a deeper
level but like every angler we feature
in this series there's more to the story than just what
happens on the water their years
of experience behind every decision long days tough conditions
missed opportunities incredible memories
and lessons that can only come from putting in the
time that is what we wanted to learn more about
who is nick taylor what shaped him as an angler
how does he approach the water differently
and after all these years what keeps him just as
driven to find the next fish today we're spending
the day with nick hearing his story learning how
he thinks and getting a closer look
at the angler behind Full Tilt Outdoors, different water, different
perspective, different story. This is Nick Taylor
and this is part five of the Pacific Northwest
Angler
series.
Is your decal half on that side as well?
That works. I'll go get a carbon monoxide decal
for you, so you can have that.
And then I'll get you your 26 stickers.
Right now guys, since we're waiting on Marlin because he's late, Clark
from Cowlitz County Sheriff came up
and I asked him to do a courtesy safety inspection.
So what they're doing is checking life jackets, throwables,
all the safety equipment that you're going
to need to be safe out here on the water.
nice to the officers
and nice to enforcement probably not going to have any issues so that's
what we're doing right now
while we wait on everybody else, good luck out there guys, hey
guys, I'm Nick Taylor with Full Tilt Outdoors
so I was born in Frederick, Maryland, moved out to
Pacific Northwest when I was like two
or three years old and I grew up in Woodland, Washington
a fishing guide in Washington
and Oregon on this side, one on this side, first aid kit
noisemakers and flares are up underneath
this seat right here, other than that please don't hit me
before I was in the army I was fishing a lot, I
was deckhanding for Cameron Black, Casey Kelly
Eric Brigham, Justin Kinniston, a bunch
of the local guides around here in woodland
uh i got out of the army i got this amazing boat
and started running a lot of falling
outdoors trips learning how to run it learning how
to be a fishing guide and how to efficiently
run six rods as of then once
i got out that was my goal
to be a fishing guide so 50 55 60
for right now we're going
to readjust so 50 up
front 55 in the middle
60 up there coming up
fishing with me going to the trout ponds
with my grandpa me going on guided fishing trips with my
uncle scott and then as the years progressed i started deckhanding
for cameron casey all those
guys and now here we are right now guys we
are waiting for this current to slow down because
right now we are trolling at 3.8 downhill once
this current starts slowing down a little bit i
I think these fish will start being a little bit more snappy.
That's why we did a late start today
Yesterday it started about 11 probably
start hooking fish right around noon
Show me tangling that's what Cameron says,
you know, you tangle it your fault
Not mine. This will make
your flasher shiny for one for two
It takes off all that dirt and grime
smell we're getting from all these weeds
And it makes these bead chains fricking spin better.
See how much grass and stuff
just pulled off that thinking it was clean.
Take it on down, pass it around. A little bit more,
smash her down.
I'm not getting
anything out
of it. Put them
all the way
up inside the
boat please.
That's a sign of the times.
I went in with a game plan today and it wasn't working so today
I decided to change out a couple of things
and instead of using bigger bolder presentations I
decided to dumb it down a little bit
and instead of using big super baits I started using spinners
without hootie skirts oh that's a fish oh he turned
on it please bite in my hand eat it dude feed it
back to him who's rod did he turn
on right there man it wasn't
mine dave's it is probably he's
coming up to it he's coming up
he's coming up oh geez oh boy he's
starting to head shake a little
now come
on i need my
first full
tilt salmon
baby come
on it's been
a grinder
out here a
little bit
fish are starting to show up a little better
and now they're starting to bite a little better and
that's a good that's a chromer that'll go good
with john smoker we're trying to we're trying
to harvest some fish for john smoker today
so number one baby and then the other hook
guys that thing was going absolutely nowhere look
at that he was not i could have done it
every single thing possible wrong
and that one coming off of there there we go baby good fish
good upper it's a super nice one
that's exactly what we're looking for out here guys thanks nick
yeah thank you for reeling it in dude
that was cool we called that one out we're like what rod
is that on like i
think it might still
be on it said wind
right there you
go come up and
underneath this rod right here
please you're going to come up
and around here
here i can hand line him nick
so the way i deal with tangles you know sometimes you just kind of
buck up and get over it and just get it done you know
if that means cutting your stuff retieing
and getting that gear back down in the water as soon as possible
Hey, get that rod
out of the way,
please, Dave.
You
okay,
Dave?
That way,
please.
Steady lift.
Steady
lift.
That's called persistence, buddy.
That thing messed you up.
Stop, man.
Awesome.
Legs are still shaking.
Arms are wobbling.
Wife's gonna be happy.
You guys down for one more half pass?
Depends on
the fishery,
but I'd
choose
360 90%
of the time.
Morning bites.
I'm a morning person.
Kokanee salmon.
That's total bullshit.
Favorite snack?
Bananas.
Coffee.
some tunes 10 15 pounders all day uh
white sturgeon golden dorado belize
my dream in 10 years is to
own probably a little bit bigger of a boat keep
this one for the little tributaries buy a bigger
one and then possibly a drift boat
or a raft here in the next five years but keep on going down the
line of grinding it out
and making this thing making
this a career means
a lot more than
just having a hobby it's a obviously it's
a lifestyle it's a it's a career
it's a full-bore addiction hey guys
if you guys want to come out and fish with
me you guys can look me up on Facebook
and Instagram full tilt outdoors my
website's www.columbiariverkings.com and my phone number

let's go fishing this series has always
been about more than just catching fish
it's about the people who have built their lives around these fisheries
and the experiences that
shape them along the way spending the day
with Nick, you can see pretty quickly why he's been
so successful. He pays attention, he puts in the time
and he genuinely loves what he does. Huge
thanks to Nick Taylor and Full Tilt Outdoors
for letting us spend a day on the water with him and
share a piece of his story. Different anglers
different backgrounds different ways of looking
at the water but all connected by the same love
for fishing. If you're enjoying the Pacific
Northwest Angler Series, make sure you subscribe
turn on those bell notifications. We have plenty
more stories coming. Until next time, we'll see you on the river.
