My 1TB M3 MacBook keeps filling up with junk left behind by AI coding agents, so I bought a used Samsung 990 Pro 1TB and a UGREEN 40Gbps USB4 M.2 enclosure with a cooling fan to add fast external storage. I unbox the UGREEN enclosure, fumble the install without reading the manual, plug it into my MacBook, and then ask Claude Code to check the drive's health. SMART says the drive is healthy, but Claude points out the controller is a Realtek RTS5765, there is no Samsung vendor ID, and the firmware and serial number don't match a real 990 Pro. Then I format it and run a full write test to see how it actually performs.
