A Warning About James Galway rose!

Oct 19, 2026

I planted this James Galway rose expecting slow, steady growth—but I was blown away by how fast it took off, even in my USDA Zone 6 garden with only partial sun. It ended up being way too big for my little vegetable patch. I found myself constantly trying to keep it under control—tying it back to my too-short welded wire fence and trimming it just to maintain a bit of order. And one thing to note: you have to be really consistent with tying it back early on, because the canes harden up fast and aren’t very pliable for long. It might be the perfect rose for you just keep in mind, it needs either a lot of space or a fair amount of maintenance.
