Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to 22 News at 4.
I'm Claire Overton.
We'll get to your top four at 4 in just a moment.
But first, we always have a look at commuter traffic and weather.
Let's bring in Brian Lapis.
Brian, the weather today was pretty good.
It was just a little chilly.
Yeah, it started chilly.
It's funny.
Inside my house, it was colder inside than it
was outside by the middle of the day.
So we've got another day in the 60s coming up.
Okay.
So above average, yeah, and another bright day, too,
and actually a lot of dry weather this week.
All right, let's take a look at our traffic real quickly.
No major problems on I-90 in either direction,
and 91 also looks pretty good in either direction.
So we go to temperatures, and as I was mentioning,
we're in the low to mid-60s, 65, Greenfield, Springfield, 63,
Westfield and Orange, 61, and Northampton, even 65.
Actually, we had low 70s earlier in Great Barrington.
And look at that, we're still at 71.
So, bright, relatively mild, dry weather continues,
and I think I'm expecting
that to be the theme here for much of the week.
We'll update with our 22 News Storm Team
Skycast in just a couple of minutes.
Claire.
Republican Lieutenant Governor-Candidate
Sean Oliver has been suspended.
He suspended his campaign, rather,
following an OUI arrest over the weekend.
Police arrived at a scene of a crash
in New Bedford at about 11.40 p.m. Saturday night.
A car flipped over after hitting five parked cars,
leaving two with extensive damage.
Oliver was taken to the hospital for his injuries.
Just hours after the incident, he released a statement saying in part,
After careful reflection, I have made the decision
to suspend my campaign for lieutenant governor.
This election is too important to be overshadowed by personal matters.
Mike Minogue released his own statement saying,
I am extremely disappointed.
Sean is lucky to be alive and lucky that no one innocent was hurt.
There is no excuse for driving under the influence.
Oliver pleading not guilty and Minogue saying if he wins,
he will not be finding a new lieutenant governor.
An update now in the Matthew Farwell trial.
The U.S. District Judge presiding over the case has issued
a new order requiring the federal government to keep all evidence
presented during the trial private until a verdict is reached.
On Friday, the court was notified that the government had posted copies
of some exhibits in the case to its public website.
Those exhibits included photos of Sandra Birchmore's body,
journal entries and items seized from the crime scene.
Now, the judge says taking these exhibits down will help
the jury remain free from outside influence,
keeping the trial fair and impartial.
We now know more about the two-vehicle
car crash that happened on Shaker Road Friday evening.
Westfield police said just before 5.30 in the evening,
a car traveling southbound struck
a vehicle traveling northbound after crossing over the center line.
One of the drivers was brought to Baystate Medical Center
with non-life-threatening injuries.
We will provide updates as soon as they become available.
And two people were hurt after a car drove off the road,
flipped and struck a telephone pole in Holyoke early Sunday morning.
The Holyoke Fire Department says crews responded to the intersection
of Northampton Street and Country Club Road around 2 in the morning.
Police say the driver was ejected from the vehicle.
The driver and the passenger were taken
to the hospital with minor injuries while Holyoke Gas
and Electric crews repaired the damaged pole.
The driver will be issued a criminal complaint
for operating under the influence.
And now we have another check at today's weather.
It was pretty dry today, of course, and a little bit chilly,
but you said we're expecting more dry weather.
Yeah, that's the way it's looking right now.
There is going to be a storm off the coast around the middle
of the week that might sneak in here for some rain,
but right now the outlook is for that to stay offshore.
Let's take a look right now.
We've got a lot of blue sky right now, and as we were talking about,
we've got temperatures that are in the 60s,
even some low 70s in parts of western Massachusetts.
It's 5 o'clock here this afternoon,
mostly clear with a clear sky and a lightish breeze.
We're going to cool off quickly here tonight,
so evening temperatures will be in the 50s.
Eventually, overnight lows will be in the 30s and 40s.
So tomorrow morning, say around 38, 39 degrees, maybe low 40s as well.
So there'll be some frost to scrape off
of your windshield, I expect, here tomorrow.
Breezy day out of the north tomorrow.
Sunshine at 10, bright at noon,
and then bright right through the afternoon hours
with high temperatures of 64 to 68.
We'll update weather for the rest of the week on 22 News at 5.
Thanks, Brian.

but actually that's relatively smoother than usual at this time of day.
And the pike looks good,
and I-91 north of Springfield is in good shape.
We'll update our dry weather as we head toward
