Well, at just five years old,
our next guest made history as the world's
youngest certified female yoga instructor.
And now at seven years old, she has also earned the
titles of published author and international
wellness ambassador. Please welcome to the couch,
Guinness World Record holder,
Phoenix Giselle Hicks and her mother, Sydney. Thank you both
so much for coming here and being with us today.
Thanks for having us. So Phoenix,
tell me about this. You teach yoga.
Where does one get inspired at your age to want to teach yoga?
I started doing it with my mom,
and then I started doing yoga with my mom, and yeah.
There you go.
So, Mom, you obviously, I know you're a bit into wellness as well.
You know, what is it that you said, you know what, here's my daughter.
She's young, but she has a special gift to her.
Yeah, so I started doing prenatal yoga,
and then when she was three months old, she took her first yoga class.
And I have a studio back home, so she would practice with the adults.
And after a while, I'm like, okay, she can really do this.
And then I would let her teach, like, a few minutes.
And I saw that, like, she really had a gift for teaching yoga.
Now, you had to study for over 200 hours to be a yoga instructor.
What has this experience been like for you?
It's been amazing and, like, wow.
Wow.
And how about now that, I mean, you made history
in the Guinness World Book of Records.
What does that mean to you?
What does it mean to me?
Yeah.
It means, like.
Something pretty special.
something not many other kids your age are doing at all no um mom
when when she's going through
this whole process like how are you finding you know
a balance for being a kid and then also
taking on something like this yeah balance
is everything she has lots of friends we have lots
of parties she's homeschooled
so we get to you know like travel a lot and see the world she's
in dance she's in robotics so she just has a really full life
but we make sure that she prioritizes
fun life. I like that.
You should make sure it's always a fun life no matter what. So you also
wrote a book called Breathe Here. Tell me about this book.
The book helps kids release stress
and calm down, even for grown-ups, kids, and everybody.
What is the biggest thing that you
tell somebody if they need to just kind of relax?
Read my book. Breathe, right?
breathing what is the trick behind breathing
for you the trick is you have to breathe and
close your eyes and make your shoulders fall down from your ears
and close your eyes breathe in
breathe out breathe in breathe out open your eyes
and i hope everybody at home was doing that as
well because already it's just your nervous system goes down
a little bit so you teach yoga
you're into robotics you wrote a book what is left
For you, what's next? Be the astronaut I was
not expecting that answer. Mom taking
her on this next mission of an astronaut, yeah she loves it I
mean she, they won first place in her robotics competition, she
is like super into STEM aside
from yoga, so my goal is to just immerse her in as much uh space
and uh just giving her opportunities
to set her up to become an astronaut, she mentioned
that she has a very fun life. What is the trick for
you in making sure as she's got so many different interests
and accomplished so much already that
you keep it fun? How, how difficult is that? Our calendar
is always filled but we make sure we
have time for like family time, play dates, fun nights, um yeah
and she's with her friends, we
homeschool with some of her friends
so we just try to always, I'm always looking for something
cool to do somewhere cool
to go. Yeah, okay, all right Phoenix, you want to stand up and give us
like a pose as we're going to go to break here?
Show us your favorite pose. Tree pose. Tree pose?
Foot on your ankle or you can put it on your back
and put your hands to your heart. Okay,
everybody at home, do the tree pose.
Breathe in, breathe out with your eyes closed. It's okay if
you wobble. It is okay because we all have a little wobbles in life.
Thank you so much, Phoenix. Great
to have you here, Sydney. Thank you so much.
And again, if you want to know more about Phoenix and
her journey, um there's their website right there and social media
so follow along and as Phoenix
told us if you want to know how to relax just get
her book, read it, it's called Breathe Makia
I can feel just the relaxation now, just moving through
the Good Day Cafe
