Want to take you to these live pictures.
This is in our own neck of the woods here. This is on 285.
Did you guys say northbound? Okay. All right. 285 northbound.
And if I could drill down geographically a little closer
on exactly where that is, I'll tell you. But in the meantime,
we're going to check out exactly what's happening here.
And that is, well, you can see for yourself this garbage truck, which
is partially ablaze here as fire rescue works to extinguish the fire.
I don't know if Cal Calloway, our managing editor,
executive producer, can tell me where this is happening.
That would be fantastic.
All right.
This is just north of I-20 near Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway,
OK, on the west part of town.
So that gives you a little more info on what's happening.
But it doesn't look like a good situation.
At least two lanes of traffic getting by here
as either Atlanta Fire Rescue or DeKalb County,
not sure which one is out there, has their hoses trained on that fire.
But quite an extraordinary scene.
What caused this fire, we don't know.
But it looks like it may have happened
in the front part of this waste management truck.
So not in the back where all the refuse resides, but up in front.
So whether the engine somehow caught fire
and then spread to the cab of that vehicle,
or perhaps it was involved in some kind
of accident with another vehicle.
Those are details that we're still trying to work out right now.
What we do know is that the fire appears,
just based on the color of the smoke coming out of that cab,
to be somewhat contained as they blast through
the cab of that garbage truck.
looks like a waste management truck.
The fate of the driver inside, that's not known either.
But one can only imagine if the fire rescue crew
are blasting the cab of the truck with their hoses
that they somehow managed to extract the driver of the fire truck.
But this is no doubt going to
affect traffic. Again, 285 northbound, right at Donald Lee Hollowell.
Parkway is where this is
all happening. Miraculous that they're able
to kind of allow traffic to get by while they work
to extinguish the fire and get that garbage truck out of the way.
It's now 3:30, so we're coming up
on the evening rush hour here on 285.
So we'll continue to stay on top of the situation,
bringing more information as we get it.
