Guards member was shot and shot at somebody,
what that looks like and what happened.
But of course, the big story locally for all
those Commanders fans are the possibility
of maybe eking out a win against the 5-0 49ers over in San Francisco.
Jaden Daniels is playing.
We'll see what that looks like out west.
And let's get to it.
Three o'clock, you're in the zone.
Three o'clock, welcome into the DMV Zone.
I'm Marina Morocco.
Let's get right into that breaking news
that we brought you off the top here at two o'clock
And at 3 o'clock out of Loudoun County,
a community shaken by a teenager's death.
The sheriff's office just giving an update.
They say a 15-year-old student took
his own life in front of a sheriff's deputy.
That deputy also fired a shot,
but investigators believe the boy shot himself dead.
This all happening this morning in Round Hill in the area
of Loudoun Street between Simmons Road and Lakefield Road.
The sheriff's office says the teen had
been reported missing this morning.
He's a student at Loudoun Valley High School.
And that his parents had discovered guns missing from their home.
The teenager had not been identified
and deputies still on the scene investigating at this hour.
Our Bob Barnard is on the scene.
He'll be giving us an update coming up later throughout
the hours right here on Fox 5.
The other big story tonight, a National
Guard member recovering after being shot
while trying to break up a fight in southeast D.C.
Police say Jarrell Jackson pulled out a gun and opened fire,
prompting guard members to return fire.
Jackson previously convicted
of two counts of assault of a police officer
and one count of carrying a pistol without a license,
as well as three parole violations.
Both the guardsmen and the suspect hospitalized
with non-life-threatening injuries.
And now D.C. police investigating as a city council member calling
for the business where the fight started to be shut down.
We've got former FBI agent Ken Gray joining us now with more.
And we know that the National Guard presence over
this last year has been long disputed in D.C.
But it seems as though they were at the right place at the right time.
Hi, Morena. Yes, this seemed to be a security operation.
The National Guard were running there in front of the Cafe 8,
located there, 400 block of 8th Street Southeast.
As they were there, a fight broke out in front
of the Cafe 8 hookah bar, one in that other times there had been fights
and shootings in front of that bar.
So they were running an operation
to just look out for additional fights.
A person pulled a gun out.
The National Guard confronted that person
who pointed a weapon at the National Guardsman.
They ended up going down into an alley and exchanged rounds.
Both the guardsman, a guardsman, was shot,
and the shooter was also hit in the abdomen.
And so this, of course, is an ongoing investigation.
But, you know, as you say, the National Guard
were at the right place at the right time running this operation.
But it did result in a National Guardsman being shot.
Yeah, I did mispeak off the top.
This is actually on Barracks Road over in the Capitol Hill,
Barracks Road area there.
Let's talk about that, about the National Guard, their presence.
And they're at least from the administration,
the Trump administration's desire to use them to lower crime.
Is this another point in their case to keep them in D.C. as they try
and fight this and litigate this through the court systems?
So in addition to being there to try to reduce
the amount of violence in the Washington, D.C. area,
they've also been maintained there for beautification purposes.
So there's a lot of guardsmen there,
more than what is necessary for just security details.
But nonetheless, with the presence of the National Guard,
the level of violence has been reduced,
not only in Washington, D.C., but elsewhere in the country.
I think down in Nashville, they have claimed real great success
in reduction of the amount of crime going on there.
And consequently, this is something that President Trump
has talked about, trying to export to other cities.
but uh right now they are to continue
on at this present level through the end of the year
yeah and also going through the court system here
because the legality still remains in question
can they legally remain outside of an emergency
is there still an emergency to your point
when the crime has seen a reduction
in numbers here we'll continue to follow this Ken Gray we
always appreciate your insight as it relates
to crime investigations thank you so much
thank you let's move on here to topic number two
as a federal judge is pushing back against
It's the Trump administration's plan
to transform East Potomac Golf Course into a championship-level course.
Today was a packed courtroom as lawyers battle over
the future of the D.C. landmark.
The hearing coming as the legal fight over the golf course
and the administration's plans for it continues to escalate.
Our chief legal correspondent, Katie Barlow,
has been following and breaking this down.
And this judge, furious in prior hearings, and because of that,
the DOJ is seeking the judge's removal from the case.
And this is kind of a mess now.
You've hit the nail on the head.
this is really a clash of the federal judiciary
and Trump's executive branch. And this is a story
that Fox 5 has stayed on top of throughout the weekend for you
because there have been
developments from Saturday, Sunday,
and even this morning from Trump, who posted once again
going after the judge personally,
calling her a crazed lunatic in a social media post.
She took the stand this morning
and questioned some officials in the Department of Interior.
And the question at the center of this is whether Trump has
the authority here to basically overhaul East Potomac Park
and how he can do it and what steps
or hoops he has to jump through in order to be able to do that.
Right now, there is an order in place from the judge telling them
that they can't do anything without three business days notice
and they can't cut down any trees
or anything like that until at least a week from now.
Now, the Trump administration is arguing they're just cleaning.
They're cleaning the park up right now.
They're going to get ready.
and making it look better from dead trees
and just trash that's around the area.
And they're saying this is all part of a plan
that was actually put together way back in 2019,
and they're just implementing that plan.
The problem is, yesterday Trump tweeted,
as we talked about here on Fox 5,
that there is actually a much broader plan
to overhaul the entire golf course,
make it one course instead of three, really redesign everything.
There you go, you can see the picture
that Trump tweeted out about his plans for the golf course
to really make it a destination,
kind of like Torrey Pines out in California or Bethpage Black.
And the question is, okay,
are you implementing this 2019 plan like you told the judge and like
you told the court, or was it really trying to get things ready
and in line to implement what
Trump wants to do here? And that's what the judge
is trying to get to the bottom of and trying to
find evidence of, which is why she's calling all of these officials in.
But to your point, Marina,
this clash is happening
because not only are they asking her to recuse, they're also saying
you don't have the power to call in and demand
that these senior administration officials just
testify at the drop of a hat.
So there really is not a meeting of the minds right now between the
judge and the administration. Well,
it was my understanding, just based on what I've been
reading online of people who are in the courtroom,
that the judge had asked that a DOJ official
submit a signature
and no one stepped up to do that and she didn't say i'm not asking you
this is an order so right so this happened this morning
and we're relying on two things here we've
got some AP News reporting but also Roger Parloff
is one of the only people in the room tweeting
this out he's with lawfare because actually
the public line is not available right now
but Stanley Woodward the number three official
at the Department of Justice made a filing last
night saying that basically what they're doing
with the golf course is tantamount to mowing the
lawn or rearranging what's in the Smithsonian
and hanging up in a museum. And there is a rule
for lawyers who sign things to the court
that every filing has to be making arguments that
are not frivolous. And the judge brought that up.
And she said, is there any other line attorney
who's willing to put their signature on this?
Because it was only Mr. Woodward who signed it.
And Mr. Woodward directed the line attorneys,
from our understanding, not to respond. So a clash
right off the bat this morning between
the two branches okay in the meantime the president
continues on social media uh to i would say badger this judge
but also say we're continuing with this
project starting november immediately yeah well yes
but also his most recent post which the judge
took judicial notice of it's on the docket says we're going
to start immediately okay now i was
also reminded that a tweet
or Truth Social post is not an order um and it's not necessarily
evidence in the same way that we think about it in the courtroom.
However, it's evidence of maybe
who knew what, when, and who was implementing what, when.
But it's not necessarily a direct
order. Okay. At least not as it relates to the executive.
Yeah. Okay. Is this, do we think that
the links issue, the golf course issue could
potentially end up in the hands of the Supreme
Court at this point? Yeah. Look, I mean,
I think some of the questions that are bubbling up right
now really are setting up a clash between the judiciary
and the executive branch in a way that
we haven't seen in some of these other cases national security
not going to be an issue like
it is with the triumphal arch or like it is with the East Wing
so it's really just separating
pure power right now between the branches
Who knows what's going to happen? Civics 101 at
play as we all just kind of digest
this right, something unprecedented together. Our chief legal
correspondent Katie Barlow breaking it down
for us, we appreciate it. Thank you Katie. Topic number
three here tonight's a big night for the Commanders
as Washington gears up to take on the undefeated
San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football
Commanders fans hoping there are no repeats
of last Sunday's overtime blunder against
the New York Giants. We've got ahead of this big
matchup, Sports Illustrated Peter Dewey with us here
and listen, I mean some would argue well
the only win they have so far is up against
the the Super Bowl champs right, the the Seattle Seahawks
although they may not be the same Seahawks we saw last season
but this 5 and 0 49ers, wow, this is
going to be a test of Jayden Daniels
and Dan Quinn for sure tonight yeah it's definitely going to be
a test um by far i think the best team
that Washington's had to play this season but you
look at San Francisco they're pretty banged up coming
into this game uh Mike Evans is questionable
um they're already down multiple playmakers
on the offensive side of the ball and that's kind of
been the the story for the 49ers over
the last couple seasons they've dealt with a ton of injuries
so Washington has been one of the more banged up teams
in the NFL to open the year but i think this
is a spot where they're kind of playing at this point
with house money nobody expects them to win
this game they're seven and a half point underdogs um on the road
and you look at what the NFC East
has kind of turned to at this point in the season with Dallas losing
and uh Philadelphia losing uh
yesterday where Washington is still in the mix yeah
um if they can pick off one of these games
i mean this is the place they want
to be right you there's zero expectation so you don't really
have that pressure at the same point
to your i mean they how has anybody picked up a win here
in the NFC East in two weeks.
It's a disaster here for the NFC East.
What do we know about the offense?
They were riddled with injuries here.
There was a question of some of these guys,
would they be at the game?
What do we know right now?
Yeah, so right now we know Terry McLaurin is going to play.
He's off the injury report.
Stefon Diggs is questionable.
He didn't play last week with a hamstring injury.
He practiced on Saturday,
which gives him a shot to play in this game.
It looks like both him and San Francisco's Mike Evans
are going to be game-time decisions,
which is about 90 minutes before kickoff we'll get
their official status i would assume Stefon
Diggs is going to work out before the game
and Washington's going to kind of make a final call
on him he's been one of their more consistent receivers
and i think we really just haven't
seen much of Washington with Terry McLaurin Stefon Diggs
and Jayden Daniels all healthy this year
i think if you can get all three of those guys
on the field it's a major boost to this offense
and they're going to need it because San Francisco
is one of the best offenses in the league right
now they're top three in the league
in success rate top three in EPA per play top three in yards
per play so they're really moving the ball
which means this Washington offense is going to have to
be able to fight back uh in some way yeah we
were just watching those players walk off the field up
against that tie here from the Giants
and you could see it in Cosbi's face i mean the disappointment
just the rage how they felt about how
that was you know you can call it a miscue you can call
it whatever you want it still it seems like they
rallied back together like there haven't been a
lot of leaks about people just wanting to abandon ship here
at this point and maybe this isn't the
point to do it but of course a lot
of questions here about Dan Quinn's leadership about what
happens next if they continue to lose
and obviously this is a ripe opportunity to pull off a win
have we heard more about that locker room post tie
and the Giants like how are they doing and
coming together to continue forward here yeah i mean everything
that we've seen kind of coming
into this game a lot of these guys obviously
back Dan Quinn they talked about how much they
love Dan Quinn and but in the NFL we always know
when you have a team going into a bye week um
that's just an unfortunate time for our coach to be vulnerable
so i think the the thing to watch
out for tonight is like is this Washington team ready
from the jump there can't be a slow start
there can't be a oh we're down 14 nothing because
then you are going to hear the questions during
the bye week next week is Dan Quinn going to be back just
because that's the easiest time during
the season if you're going to make a change
to make a change i don't think that's going to be
the case um but you could argue
that you know he's potentially coaching for his job today
everything that's come out of the locker room
in the past you know week or so at this point
seems positive good nobody's throwing anybody under the bus
so i think you you will see an
inspired team knowing that their coach has kind
of got his back against the wall probably coming
into this game well they've got a big mountain ahead of them
and hopefully i think for commanders
fans they're hoping they can overcome it good
to talk to you peter thanks so much for coming on
we'll be right back there's no pronouncement the email
so that the eagle star quarterback jalen
hurts will miss the rest of the season after
doctors discovered multiple blood clots in his
Hurts initially diagnosed with a blood clot in his left calf
but further testing revealed a
more serious condition he's reportedly stable
and expected to make a full recovery but will
be sidelined while he undergoes treatment joining us now
is physician executive director of vascular
surgery for MedStar Health Dr. Stephen Abramowitz
to talk about vein thrombosis and the warning
signs here. And we're still working, doctor,
through the timeline of Jalen Hurts and what we
know so far at this point.
But first and foremost, what is deep vein thrombosis?
It's a great question. And thanks for having me.
A deep vein thrombosis is a time when the
blood clot forms in one of the veins that are deep into the body.
And this is very different
from superficial venous thrombosis,
when a vein has a clot that's near the surface of the skin.
Deep vein thrombosis can be concerning,
as we see in this case, for anybody to have a pulmonary
embolism or something that can migrate
and extend throughout the course of the leg and it can occur
anywhere in the body in one of these deep veins okay
this seems to have stemmed from some sort
of injury a kick if you will to Jalen Hurts's calf travels
to London goes to the hospital
the hospital advises he doesn't sleep he plays
the game in London without any sleep after the
game and he travels back via plane to Philadelphia they discover
that there are more blood clots this
time in his lungs. Is this usually how it happens?
It escalates that quickly after all the series of
events I just described?
Well, I'll say something and not knowing anything about his individual
care. This unfortunately is a classic story
for when people are dealing with venous thromboembolic
events. And I would call attention to the fact
that World Thrombosis Day was just last week,
October 13th. So there's a lot for us to learn here.
When somebody has a deep vein event or a
clot in their veins. Usually it's what we call a triad of symptoms
or events that occur. Somebody
has to have an injury, they have to have an injury to a vein,
and then they have to have some stasis
or not moving around.
So a long plane ride, a long car ride in conjunction with an injury to
the extremity, and then some clot
or nidus of inflammation in the vessel itself. This is a
very, very classic story for an event like
this and this type of progression.
When we talk about blood thinners,
because it sounds as though now the prescription, if you will,
the remedy has been blood thinners
and he's out for the rest of the season in normal people, if you will.
I mean, sometimes you think about, OK, this may happen.
Someone who's overweight or someone who is,
to your point, a sedentary doesn't move as much.
But this is an athlete, a professional athlete.
I mean, the truth is,
it sounds like this can happen to just about anybody.
Yeah. And it can happen to anybody.
and again, especially people who are predisposed,
whether they have a genetic condition or they've
suffered from an injury, we call that a provoked DVT.
And it can be the result of a surgery,
an injury, like in his case, it could be the result of an illness.
We saw this a lot with
COVID or the flu. So keeping an eye out for any extremity swelling,
pain that doesn't get better,
or in the case of a pulmonary embolism,
sudden onset of shortness of breath or a pain in your
chest when you breathe those are times to reach out
to your physician very scary but certainly
things to keep in mind and to remind ourselves
of good to talk to you especially given the news
thank you so much doctor you all right from one sport
to the next the Washington Wizards their
home opener is Wednesday up against the Milwaukee Bucks
and with us we're going to check out all the
new merchandise that the Wizards are rolling out
for this big game we've got senior retail director
at Monumental Sports and Entertainment Matt Vogler
to show us what's new what's good and i know
There's a lot of excitement for the Wizards.
And, man, you guys got some good, sweet drip coming up.
What's going on?
Hi, how are you?
Good, Matt.
What you guys got for the new season?
We got a lot.
First, I want to say we're excited for this season and the team, AJ.
So we're going to take advantage
of that and bring some new product to the team store.
Yeah, and I see that.
And I like a little bit of the classics here.
It's not just about basketball.
You're doing a little bit of an homage to everything around.
Absolutely.
So we have our new product line with Nike this year.
So you're going to see these on the players.
more of a unique youthful approach if you will
but one big thing we want to
talk about this year is our collabs that we're doing
so more unique items that
you have to come to the arena to get okay so you can't buy these online
correct so our first one is through local hoops
so local hoops you may have
seen these on our players at all-star AJ wore
this outfit for his district debut
at the Wharf very cool our fans have asked
for it we listened it's available
this Wednesday at noon at our team store
at the arena okay and then let's talk
about that because you have to come to the arena i know
that you guys don't just open up the store
for games you can come at certain hours
and certain times but this is what makes it cool
it's not like everybody can buy it online like you got
to show up you got to come to DC you got
to come to the district if you want the district gear exactly
so yeah our team store is now located
in Gallery Place atrium which is adjacent
to the arena we're open Tuesday through Saturday 12 to 5
obviously on game days we stay open through to the end
and then Sundays and Mondays we open two
hours before the game I see the box there everything
for AJ I mean it sounds like this
is where where the fans are at right now I I see
that that's probably like a bestseller here
anything else that we need to know that I think
that that's the cool kids or it should be wearing
um yeah I mean obviously
the new Nike gear uh we have we have several collabs we're gonna have
something new and unique to drop every month
of the season all right with different collaborations
so Chris Pyre is a local artist that we've worked
with for quite a bit, this was our year five
so we're excited about that relationship
and and continuing that uh believe in yourself which is
another one, B.I.Y. We did a drop with them last year.
Admittedly, did not have enough, so we grew
the collection. When you sell out,
you know you're doing something right. For the home opener up
against the Bucs, anything special for that night?
We will have the new Nike stuff, and then we're
going to drop the local. Very cool.
Matt, thank you so much. Get out there. Get out to Capital
One Arena. Get yourself the new gear
for the Washington Wizards as they have that home opener
on Wednesday night. We'll be right back.
This month marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month and
promoting early detection, education, and patient support,
and doctors sounding the alarm about
the links between certain cancers and obesity.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
obesity linked to more than 13 cancers, including uterine,
kidney, ovarian, thyroid, and breast cancers.
Got oncologist at MedStar Health, Dr. Miriam Jacobs,
with the latest trends regarding breast cancer rates and what we know.
And it's so important to get screened early,
but also this link to obesity here.
What can you tell us about that?
Yeah, thanks for having me on.
So we know that as women or men become obese,
their risk of cancer goes up.
So there is, for certain types of breast cancer,
especially ones that are sensitive to estrogen,
your risk goes up as your body mass goes,
you know, above a certain limit.
And obviously that obesity link being tied to so many other cancers,
what is it in common
that not just your BMI, but what is it
that we're eating potentially that can increase that risk of
these cancers? Yeah. So, you know,
one of the big things is being obese and overweight causes
inflammation in your body.
So it makes your immune system function not as well.
So it might be harder
for your body to recognize the tumors. Okay.
So you're saying that the obesity, you may not be
able to see it, feel it? Yeah.
So it can make detection harder. And then obesity in general
causes a lot of inflammation.
And our immune system can actually recognize cancer cells. But
when we become obese, it makes our immune system
so that it is more difficult to recognize the
tumors. And you're saying that through mammograms
or ultrasounds or even using devices that you all
use to detect these? Yes.
So it's really important to have your screening. We have
very good detection methods now through mammograms,
ultrasounds, and in high-risk
women, sometimes even MRI.
So we recommend for all women 40 and above who are average risk that
they have their mammograms yearly to help detect breast cancer early.
Dr. Jacobs, we appreciate
the conversation thank you thanks we'll
be right back monday after a cold weekend as we get you
back outside and give you a live look here at National Harbor
and we're seeing the sun on this
monday and thankfully we saw the sun this weekend
because we'd spent a couple weekends here Caitlin
where we'd only seen uh rain so even
though it was a little cooler it was nice to see the sun
out there we had five sundays in a row that rained here in DC
and we finally broke that
streak yesterday and it was it
was glorious yeah it looks like yeah it looks like the way it is
outside right now and that's
the way it's gonna look all week listen i'll take it i know over the
rain yeah take it goodbye to any rain chances uh
for the short term here as we are looking at a
pretty glorious week of weather which i can't say very often
but in fall and spring usually do have
like one week you can really count on and that's going
to be this week 69 degrees at Reagan National
right now bright sunshine light winds beautiful blue sky day
and we saw that change occur in
stages over the weekend friday night
that front came through we cooled down considerably saturday
was very gusty we were clearing out
and then we settled into high pressure yesterday and right
now you've got a variety of 60s for outdoor air temperatures
so this is going to be one of those
weeks where there's literally nothing to show on satellite
and radar not just here but across much
of the eastern half of the country sprawling
double barrel high pressure and this is the
time of year where you can get into these long stretches
of yes really nice sunny weather you
an absence of heat or humidity.
And if there's not a lot of fronts moving through, it gets very
quiet. Offshore low pressure system is going
to stay well offshore. And it was, you know,
last week we thought, is that going to creep closer
to the coast, cause some issues? That's
no. That actually might become our next tropical storm of the season,
but it's not going to have
any impact on us. So beautiful week for fall foliage, right?
Really starting to see some of
that color shine area-wide, including here in the metro.
And our northwest suburbs are now in that
moderate to close to high color.
You're at high color along Skyline Drive and into the ridgetops
and the very tops of the mountains
in West Virginia already past peak. So it is a quick
phase and you need weeks like this to really maximize it.
I mean, I know fall foliage season
is all about the weather leading into it in advance,
but if you were going to pick perfect
conditions, it would be this cool mornings,
mild afternoons, not overly wet. And, you know,
we're not in a drought thanks to a lot
of the rainfall that we've had, mostly. So the next
couple weeks is where everything really starts to shine.
North and west suburbs peak probably next
week, and then the week after that in early November
for us here in D.C. So evening plan
are very comfortable, just a light jacket needed.
67 at 5 p.m., 60 at 7 p.m., 56 at 9 p.m., and then
we'll do this all over again tomorrow.
It's a cool start to the day, but not as chilly as mornings
past meaning we started this morning at 42 we're going
to start tomorrow at 50 and tomorrow looks
to be our mildest day of the next seven
but it's not there's not going to be a big variety each day
will be somewhere between 60 and 70
so unlike last week where we had these crazy temperature swings
this is going to be so much gentler
so a beautiful day with sunshine highs around 70 if you're in the
sun you know it feels nice and mild
but then if you're in the shade you're like i definitely need
that jacket so there's that temperature trend where you see you know
not crazy high highs or
low lows everything is very stable
and seasonal with highs in the 60s as we go through the rest
of the week it does look a little bit cooler
with highs around 60 by friday and into the weekend
the extended weekend showing way after this week maybe
into next week a little bit of a late season
warm-up but i think the high heat's behind us
last wednesday we hit 90 we're done with that
Last Friday, we hit 80. Are we done with that? Maybe, but we'll see.
Climatology certainly says your days for hitting 80 are winding down
because by November 1st, which is in two weeks,
we average highs around 64 and then obviously,
yeah, it goes down from there.
Real quick, we are monitoring that area
in the Atlantic that I just mentioned.
40% chance of becoming our next tropical storm.
Josephine would be the name.
It's still hurricane season. It will be for another month and a half.
That doesn't end until November 30th,
so possible to get development, of course,
although whatever this becomes,
we'll be moving off to the north and east
and kind of away from the United States and not going to be a concern.
So here it is. I mean, the best weather money can buy anywhere,
and we're going to get it around these parts all week long.
It's just one 10 after another.
Yes, a little bit cooler as we head into the weekend,
but then a little bit milder as we get back into next week.
just threw a few clouds in there for effect otherwise sunny dry
and gorgeous morning No
chance of rain in the foreseeable future either
so love to see it see you back at four o'clock
thank you caitlin we've got our stephanie ramirez
with us here as it is week three of the naresh
bat murder trial and of course trying to build
the case as to him killing his wife mamta what
happened in court today so interesting we saw some new pieces
of surveillance video we're going to
talk about that in a moment but first i want
to talk about a witness who took the stand today
This is a woman who says that she was Mamta Kafle Bat's roommate.
I'm talking about sharing the same room.
This was after Mamta was already married.
And what's interesting is we had heard a lot
of conversation about a second apartment tied to Naresh Bhat.
And this is in Falls Church.
Well, apparently this is the apartment they were talking about.
Today in court, this woman you see on your screen, Nadia Navarro,
She testified that she was living with Mamta in an apartment
on Wickham Sham Way in Falls Church in the fall of 2021, early winter.
She told the court Naresh Bhat was looking for someone to share a room
with his wife, that she was coming to America for the first time,
wanted someone to show her around, help her with English.
In exchange, he offered a heavily discounted room.
She learned today that Naresh Bhat owns or owned the unit.
Now, Navarro described being close to Mamta.
She answered questions about Mamta speaking about the language.
She was asked about a potential incident between Naresh Bhat
and his wife and was also asked whether she
saw any physical contact between the two.
But the defense had several objections and they were sustained,
so those questions were not allowed to be answered fully in court.
She did also talk about how she was making plans
to hang out with Mamta in the summer of July 2024.
Now, she said she missed a call around the 28th of July.
She was in the hospital sick.
She learns days later that Mamta had been missing.
She tries to call Mamta.
She tells the court that that was strange, that Mamta was a reliable
and consistent person and that she wasn't hard to reach.
Now, we also saw more surveillance video,
and we'll show you that in the hours coming up.
You may see some of it on your screen.
But we were talking on Friday about him purchasing knives,
a scene on footage purchasing knives.
Well, today he's seen purchasing several cleaning supplies.
I believe this was at a Walmart.
And then it's also talked about how at a Lidl supermarket,
not on the day he said he was
there originally but police,
he's seen purchasing garbage bags, strong garbage bags.
There's a lot more.
Also, the introduction today of Flock cameras, right?
We know that's very controversial.
It was used by police to track his movements.
And so we start to see the introduction
of that testimony today as well.
All right.
A lot of people just all eyes here to see where this goes now,
because the defense's
theory right now is that the prosecution can't show
a block of time it's a hole that they're
calling it so we'll see if they fill
in that hole what happens as it's expected to last
seven weeks today marking a week three Stephanie Ramirez following us
for us in Fairfax County we
appreciate Prince William County Prince William
yes thank you we'll be right back here uh we're
actually continuing with uh information out
of Iran tensions in the Middle East continue to rise
as the war with Iran puts pressure
on Trump administration its allies the strait of
Hormuz remains a major flashpoint with attacks on commercial shipping,
threatening global oil supplies and driving up energy costs.
The president also reaffirming his support
for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
ahead of Israel's upcoming election.
We've got co-founder and executive vice
president of the Quincy Institute,
Trita Parsi, with the latest developments
and what this all means for U.S. military,
global and economy and the economic impacts here.
Where do things stand at this hour
as we're inching closer to the midterm elections
and still no resolution out in the Middle East?
There is tremendous amount of tension in the region right now in fear
and anticipation that there may actually be a return
to major warfare before the midterm elections
and potentially before the Israeli elections on the 27th.
There is suspicion and an open conversation in Israel that an attack
or a restart of the war before the Israeli elections could
be beneficial to Netanyahu's reelection bid.
And as a result, there may be movement in that direction.
There's still ongoing diplomacy, but we have not seen any indication
of any major breakthrough or even modest progress in those talks yet.
There's so much happening at the same time.
We're hearing about a potential meeting between Xi Jinping
and Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.
But the resolution of Ukraine and Russia, obviously,
what's happening in the Middle East here,
in the United States kind of in the middle here,
right ahead of the midterm elections.
Is there any chance that anything gets
resolved before the end of 2026 here,
where things seem so fraught and everyone's so far apart?
I find it very unlikely that any
of these different conflicts will actually see a full-scale resolution.
There is obviously a likelihood of a deal,
for instance, between the U.S. and Iran,
but it would still be one of those type of deals
in which it would take probably 60 or so days
before you actually can see whether it works or not.
So nothing that can be conclusive
and be a final deal before the end of 2026.
These sanctions that were imposed on Iran seem to be the ones
that were sucking the oxygen out of the economy,
out of the government there in Iran.
Are they working? Are they effective? And can they sustain long term?
The U.S. has had sanctions on Iran for more than 40 years.
These are just the latest round of them
and they're harsher than the previous ones.
But we're not seeing the slightest indication
that the sanctions have changed the Iranian government's position.
Are they inflicting pain? Absolutely.
Is that pain translating into a different policy
by the Iranian government?
We're seeing no signs of that in this case.
And frankly, we have not seen that in the case
of any of the previous sanctions.
Yeah, and that was the way that it was sold,
if you will, to the American people,
that this would be one more tool
that would really suffocate the regime.
And to your point, it doesn't seem to be proving true.
The Strait of Hormuz right now, who's in charge?
What does it look like in this moment in time for oil
and for other transport to get by?
There is a higher volume of oil getting out
of the Strait of Hormuz right now,
but it is not in any way, shape,
or form a situation in which one can say that the
Strait is entirely closed or that it's entirely open.
There are rumors flying around that the
ships that are passing through are actually paying
the Iranians fees in order to be able
to pass through and the ones that are not are getting hit.
The United States is spending a tremendous amount
of money providing military escort
for these ships.
And that is simply not a sustainable situation.
The cost of that is not going to be able to be sustained.
So it's very clear, even if one
of these measures can give you a bit of a tactical edge, the
only thing that actually can resolve the situation
is to get to an actual deal that does not
necessitate any longer any American escort of these ships.
All right, Trita, we appreciate
the latest there from the Middle East.
And of course, we'll be watching as we approach here
the midterms day by day. Thank you so much.
Stay with us here on the DMV. Thank you. We'll be right
back. As the Washington Commanders get ready
for showdown against the San Francisco 49ers and
local fans already hyped for a rebound win for the team.
Our Gwen Talbert in Crystal City at
the Sports Pub there, a fan favorite for all things commanders.
Hi, Gwen. Hi there. Yes,
that game kicks off at 8 15 tonight
but i want to tell you fans owners staff everybody in here
alike is so hyped for the win this is definitely
the place to be when it comes to the commanders
with me now is jim madden
who is one of the co-owners tell me what is so special about uh
crystal city sports pub when it comes
to the team jim sure sure well thanks bill we've been working
here 30 plus years expanding over the years giving lots
of space other things besides football to
take part in pool darts but uh just uh having
the home team behind the Commanders success on the
field and the optimism
and hope of all all the loyal fans we're just looking forward to hosting
the game tonight and i mean hosting
the game we've got all the beautiful screens here people
can see it on but this is just one section
that you have in here isn't it yes that's right i gave
you the nickel tour earlier we took two
or three the second floor has this outdoor patio a bunch
more tvs and then all the way up to the top floor
our feature floor for sports watching
we've got a large tv i like to get around
and say it's the biggest tv in virginia no one's
proved me wrong yet up there
on the third floor we get over 100 people up there so plenty of room
for everybody to come out enjoy the game tonight
so i mean you've got your regulars that are going
to be coming in here all the time but what can someone
who maybe wants to come and see it for
the first time what can they experience
when they come in sure um like a lot of places but
We're really known for our friendly staff,
great staff here, building all the time.
And just they can feel like they're at home
when they come here to the sports pub.
And speaking at home, there's nothing
like having a great meal, is there?
So tell me about some of the food
and drink options that you're offering.
Sure. Well, it just so happens that tonight
is half-price burger Monday night.
So we've got a Longhorn burger here,
cheddar cheese cooked to order for you, bacon, onion tangles on top,
served with fries or chips, whatever you like.
And then we also, appetizer-wise, all sports bars, we're one of them.
Our wings are tremendous here, so can't go wrong with the food.
Nothing like a game with some wings, that's for sure, right?
All right, well, we've got some highlights we want
to have a look at for our viewers.
So take a look at this.
I mean, you know, the last game,
everybody was just sitting on the edge of their seats
between the injuries and what happened with the Giants.
So as we look at this, just tell me, you know,
what have you heard from your customers
and about where the team is right now with the injuries
and with the game that happened with the Giants.
It was a little bit like beating a dead horse,
but, you know, God bless them.
I know they're trying hard, but, you
know, most people kind of feel like,
how in the world can that happen to a professional sports team?
And it did, so you just got to move past it,
keep swimming, I like to say.
Just keep on going up the river. Don't stop moving.
We're keeping our fingers crossed when it comes to Jaden Daniels.
You know, let's talk about that a little bit.
Yeah, he seems to be healthy.
You know, he does have the cast, not the cast, but the brace.
But he seems to be 100% locked in, ready to go.
All right.
Well, back out here live now.
I'm sure we're going to have some 49er fans in here as well.
But I get the feeling that, you know,
this is the kind of place that everybody's going to be comfortable in.
Yeah, that's the great thing about living in this D.C. area.
There's people from all over the country.
Certainly there's lots of 49ers fans.
And we're, you know, all are welcome.
We take on all comers here at Sportsbook.
So, Commander fan, 49er fan, come on down.
So just tell me something.
As someone who's an owner of a sports bar,
when you see the passion that people have
for a team like the Commanders,
how does that resonate with you?
Yeah, so when you see it here,
when there's a large group really excited about the game,
there's really nothing like it at all.
There's so much positive energy.
It's just a wonderful experience to see all the fans just going wild.
All right, well, let's hope that we get that win.
I mean, let's high-five on that one, Jim.
We need that win for sure.
Let's do it.
All right, so whether you're a regular
or whether you have never been here before,
you want to try it out for the first time,
I mean, you can see the food options,
you can see the atmosphere here.
This is definitely the place to be for those commanders.
Tell us what hours you're going to be open.
We're open until 2 a.m., so there's plenty
of time to party after the victory tonight.
And you heard the key words, right, Marina?
After the victory, because positive vibes,
that's all I'm feeling up in this place today.
The commanders' fans are feeling like this can happen,
This can happen, so 2 a.m., that's not bad.
Thank you so much, Kim Glenn.
We appreciate it.
This magical moment brought to you by your local McDonald's.
The Washington Spirit clinching their spot in the playoffs.
Fullback Lucia DiGuglielmo scoring the only goal
in their match against Gotham on Saturday.
The play in the 70th minute locking up the team's spot in the postgame.
This was DiGuglielmo's first goal in the NWSL.
It was also the first win for the Spirit over Gotham since 2024,
and you can catch the Spirit
in their final regular season home game at Audi Field November 1st.

7.30.
Hi, Chris.
We're kicking off a new week. I'm excited about it.
Excited to see what kind of fresh,
weird stories that we have to bring to you.
The Victoria's Secret fashion show,
did you know that that's still a thing?
I did because I was on social media.
of it it does seem like the revival of it
and it's a social media driven thing now i believe
it was like an exclusive youtube stream
which is huge don't get me wrong but it's one of those
sort of things that like it seems like it had like it's real heyday
and then it disappeared
for a little while for good reason
and now it's on the upswing again and uh there were a lot of
big names involved yesterday there were a lot
of local names trinity rodman made her debut
Kobe Bryant's daughter made her debut, Megan T
the stallion was there involved barbara palvin that
is not a name that I knew before. Kylie Jenner, yeah, her too.
$50 million bra or something like
that. Anyway, Barbara Palvin. What do you think of the fantasy bra?
Lucky Timothée Chalamet. She was
not a name that I knew going into it.
Apparently she's married to some child, former child star
or whatever. But the big thing was that she made
her Victoria's Secret fashion show debut six weeks
after giving birth. And when she talked to a lot of them,
obviously people had a lot of questions
about that. And she said, that's not really a big deal
because most women have to go back to work
six to eight weeks after they give birth.
So the idea of walking the Victoria's Secret fashion
show, six weeks postpartum, do you like it or not?
I mean, if you've got that bod, then yeah,
rock it. I would, you know, I'd rock that all the time.
That probably looks like me now.
Not even. Listen, I think that there's a lot of people are upset by it
because it manages,
It sets unrealistic expectations for everyone else.
But that's her body, exactly.
And who knows?
Maybe she didn't even have to do anything to prep for it.
She just woke up like this.
And, you know, look, Victoria's Secret has
no tainted history with different types of body types.
The Open Concept Kitchen, are you a fan?
Do you like it?
Do you not?
Yes, yes.
Don't give me a galley kitchen tucked away because you know
who's in the kitchen cooking, prepping me.
Yeah, you want to be able to socialize with your friends.
You want to be able to hang out with everybody at the same time.
There's an episode of Seinfeld one time
where Kramer is cooking in a shower.
You may not have ever seen it.
She's young.
She doesn't watch a lot of TV.
I have to constantly update with her.
So there's a house that went viral on Zillow Gone Wild,
which is one of my favorite sites.
And it has an open concept kitchen.
And then there's a shower right on the other side.
An open concept shower kitchen.
Do you like that or not?
Apparently it's for like washing pets.
I've eaten in the shower before.
You've eaten in the shower before?
I think it's weird when people brush their teeth in the shower.
Really? Why?
I do. Well, I have an electric toothbrush.
It's one of the same, so I feel like I would break it.
Oh, I thought it was going somewhere else.
Well, why would you break it in the shower?
It would get wet.
It's lithium battery operated, right?
I mean, are you under the shower as you're brushing your teeth?
I mean, I don't know what kind of massive shower you have,
but I live in one of those.
There's not a lot of wiggle room.
Usually the water's touching my back, and then I'm brushing my teeth.
Oh, interesting.
So you do brush.
Okay, I have a shower beer.
Yeah, I've had drinks in the shower plenty of times.
What are you eating in the shower?
You've got to go.
Like chips from like my, you know, I'm done
with my sandwich and the chips are still left
and I've got to like finish them.
So you put them.
I don't think we should get a break.
We've got to dive into this.
I'll see you in the Zoom room.
There you go.
I'll see you at 7:30.
Even in the shower.
So, you know, about the Victoria's Secret fashion show,
it was a great show.
I, too, could have gone back after six weeks to play for the NFL
because I look like a linebacker.
I know.
I mean, I just looked at her up. She looked amazing,
but I'm still working on that bod and I'm three years postpartum.
