In this video I am showing how I finish some pieces with resin. I have so many paintings and coasters that I need to finish; setting up in my garage worked really well! 11 sets of coasters and a handful of paintings got their first coat of resin. I've linked some of the videos below where I made these pieces, many of them gorgeous dutch pours! (one of my favorite techniques to do). I had one person in my last video ask about finishing one of my mixed media pieces and whether or not there were issues with the oil paint in the painting. This was definitely not an issue! The mixed media dutch pour looks amazing with some resin and the oil paint didn't have any issues with the resin on top.

#dutchpour #mixedmedia #acrylicpainting

Hi everyone. Today I am going to be trying out some resin to finish this mixed media piece. I used acrylic paints and then I added some oil paint embellishments and in one of my previous videos somebody asked me if I had tried to finish them yet and to see if the resin or varnish would go over the oil paint and I have not so I'm going to try that. I know when people have used silicone in their paintings, they have to clean that off before they can resin because the silicone will repel the resin. So I'm going to see if the oil paint will repel the resin, and if it does, I will probably scrape it and try and clean it off before I try resining it again. But I'm in my garage today so that I can film this and have a better space. I'm going to kind of show you, I have a handful of paintings on a couple of tables, and I also have, I counted them, I have 11 sets of coasters. And this is only a small portion of what I have painted, but I have so much stuff that is unfinished that I'm going to probably try and set up some tables like this every once in a while and do whip out a whole bunch at one time. If there are any paintings that you'd like I can always add them to my Etsy. I do have a local store where I live that sells some of my work and I bring most of my stuff there, but everything is for sale. If you ever see a piece that you like just let me know. So for part of this video I won't be talking because I will be wearing a mask while I use resin, but I will go mix it up and we'll start adding it to this piece and see what happens. Okay so I have my resin all mixed up. It's one part hardener to one part resin. I use East Coast resin. It is a crystal clear tabletop resin. It's just one that I like. I've tried a few different brands and so far I've not had any issues with this one yellowing over time. Obviously I have gloves on while I'm mixing and while I'm putting it down. I have my face mask. I also have my torch, and I would recommend always wearing a mask, especially when you're torching because of the fumes. If you get resin on your skin, you can use rubbing alcohol to get it off, but soap and water won't work. So at least I have not had soap and water work. So I'm going to put my mask on. I'll put some music on in the background for you guys because I won't be talking, and we'll start with this painting, and then I'm going to use up some resin on a few other pieces and see how far I can get with this. Four and a half since I put this first coat of resin on. It's fantastic. The resin did not pull away from the oil paint. I didn't add that much oil paint so I'm hoping that if I add more in the future it won't cause a problem. Since I'm working out in my garage I'm also planning on trying out some spray paint with acrylic paint in the future. So I don't want to work in the house with that because of the fumes but if it works out like this I'm hoping that I'll be able to finish everything with resin and I won't have an issue. But this one looks fantastic. I got a coat of resin on everything that I pulled out so I'm going to just take my camera down and kind of pan over everything. The colors look amazing. I love the way that everything just pops when you add resin to it. I will do I'll do at least two coats on everything that I have out here. This way. This is a Dutch pour that I did quite a while ago. I love those colors. It looks really nice. This is a painting that I did on my second channel. I'll link it in the video if you want to take a look. It's just a night sky on a wood cutout. This painting is also linked in the video. This one turned out beautifully. I am so happy with the way that it dried. This was also a Dutch pour, magenta, orange, and yellow. And it got its coat of resin. And this was another Dutch pour. It was greens and blues. Now we are going to go. I got 11 sets of coasters almost done and a few other small paintings on this table. So thank you all for watching. If you have questions on using resin, just let me know in the comments. I hope you enjoyed. Thank you!
