This week's pick of the week is the ClickUp from Climbing Technology.
We're selling this assisted braking belay device
for €58 in the Epic TV shop.
One of the ClickUp's biggest strengths is how easy it is to use,
but it's important to remember when using an assisted braking device
to never let go of the dead end of the rope.
To use the ClickUp in lead climbing mode, thread the rope through
the device in the direction the pictures indicate.
Hook the carabiner which comes with the ClickUp through
the device and onto your harness.
You should use the provided carabiner
to prevent cross-loading of the device.
Check it's working by pulling the lead rope and locking it.
To belay a lead climber,
simply feed the rope through the ClickUp as the climber ascends.
Remember to keep a hand on the dead end of the rope. To take up slack,
pull the rope back through the device
and slide your hand up the rope to reset.
When the climber falls the device will click forwards locking
the rope to assist with braking.
To release it push the click up upwards and forwards.
To lower a climber push the click up downwards
and feed the rope through the device.
To belay a climber using a top rope activate
the click up in a locked position
and take up the rope sliding your hand up to take in the slack.
The click up reacts quickly and easily to a belayer's need.
It has very few moving parts
which increases its durability and therefore lifespan.
It can be used on a large range
of single ropes from 8.6 to 10.5 millimetres.
