I had never used this tool before, and decided to try a splitwood fire using only the camillus and my firesteel.

I didn't notice, it's raining, it's quite wet out here.
There's a lesson over on Bushcraft USA
to do a split wood fire without a knife.
So, I have this Camillus Carnivore, thought I'd use this.
I would have never bought this for myself.
What actually happened was, my really close buddy
about a year ago, a year last September, died.
And before he died, he bought this,
and I remember him calling me saying,
Joe, I got this Camillus Carnivore,
let's go to the woods to play with it.
thinking this thing's retarded,
I would never buy this but I didn't let him know that because
I wanted him to come to the woods and play with me.
He actually ended up dying before we could have
a chance to come to the woods and use
it and his parents gave it to me
because they knew I liked outdoors and stuff so this one's
for you Tony, you're heavy on my mind today.
I pry with it too much,
it's probably a pretty weak
knife, pretty weak machete,
whatever
it is,
it's
in dry.
I've got that piece somewhat split down,
and I'm hiding it sandwiched in between bark here like like
Iowa Woodsman shows on a couple of his videos
Gotta split it down a bunch more this thing's got a weird tip to it.
It's angled all funky
It's hard
to really get
it in there the
same doesn't
make too bad
of curls
actually the
serrations
on it
Kind of shred the wood and they come out pretty fine
fine. It's taken a long time but they're airy
and they're thin so they'll light pretty easily
hopefully.
Here
goes
nothing.
Fire
steel
in
that
camellias.
Camellias
carnivore
again.
I
hated
it.
It's
a sentimental
thing like
I said
and I'm gonna
keep it forever.
Got some
homemade
turkey soup.
My wife made it after Thanksgiving.
That's gonna be real good out here today. A nice hot soup in
the rain. My turkey soup is done.
I'm going to eat that.
My buddy Brett came out to join
me out in the woods today.
And we're going to hang out, have some coffee, and...
