Weather alert this morning.
That's right.
The city has declared a local emergency ahead
of this week's incoming storm and next week's
king tide.
So let's check in with Mario, who's live at the bubble up here.
Hi there, Mario.
Hi, Sandra.
Roxy.
Yeah, we're talking about all this activity coming
into the Southern California coast.
We've already had so much that's been damaging.
That's why you see these massive sand berms out here.
I was just talking to this couple from Texas.
You guys are on vacation out here
and you didn't expect any type of coastal advisories
or anything like this.
What do you think?
Well, I think it's been taken care of pretty well, it appears.
Now, we were kind of concerned
when we were leaving as to what to expect,
and I knew up north there was some issues,
and then so we thought, well, we won't be having any trouble down here.
But then that one hurricane hit Baja, and San Diego got hit pretty bad.
So a couple from Texas, I want the honest opinion.
What do you think about Southern California and Newport Beach?
I love it I really do this is our first time in Newport Beach
and we were kind of leery because
the reports you know that we heard was that it
was going to be closed pretty much so I'm like man
been years since we've been to the beach
and this is really good that we were able to enjoy this
yeah so let's show some video here from October 9th
and you could see like the streets flooding
I was telling you both that that happened here just a short time ago,
and you were all surprised.
So I know a lot of people who are visiting, they might run into that.
So it's important that we get the information out,
that we talk about these beach hazard statements.
People might be watching, thinking they want to come down to the coast.
And this is happening up and down the coast.
So as we look at what people are dealing with in Newport Beach,
the damage extends up to Long Beach.
If we take a look at some of the video there,
there's a century-old boardwalk that has been in place there.
It's normally like a beautiful place for families to walk
in the morning and everybody walking their pets early in the morning.
And lately, it's just been battered
by all these waves constantly coming in.
And now there's a project that's supposed to get underway today,
bringing in all this sand from Alamitos Bay.
So that's really what they're doing is bringing in sand
from other places as these waves have been damaging a lot
of the sand berms and, you know, even making it to some of the homes.
So it is a beautiful morning out here.
Nonetheless, you guys are enjoying your stay, right?
Loving it. Yeah, really am loving it so far.
We just got here last night
and just got out to the peninsula just now, actually.
And we're going whale watching a little later.
What are your names?
My name's Paul.
My wife's Lupe.
Paul and Lupe.
They're going to go whale watching.
Okay.
Well, thank you for talking to us.
Appreciate it.
Welcome to Newport Beach.
Thank you.
All right.
For now, we'll send it back to you.
We'll bring you any more updates we get here on the coast.
Thank you, Mario.
meeting some new people all right speaking of new new
this morning erosion concerns are causing road

of Malibu's Instagram page showing just how
bad it's gotten and their explanation
for how they're going to handle it Westward Beach Road
is now closed between Bird View cul-de-sac
and the Sunset Restaurant LA County contractors are
working to prevent further damage there
while crews help direct traffic water service to the
Sunset Restaurant will also be temporarily shut off.
Officials are monitoring conditions to
determine when that road can reopen.
Also new this morning, Sky Fox in Long Beach, where work
is underway on a major dredging project.
This is happening at the entrance of Alamitos Bay.
The city says the work will remove years
of buildup sand sediment to improve boating safety
while reusing that sand to replenish
and stabilize the eroding shoreline at Peninsula Beach.
A timeline on the city website shows
the project should wrap up by February.
