AI GeneratedThe Sign of the Beef Carver, a beloved Metro Detroit institution for 70 years, is closing its Royal Oak location this Sunday. Despite massive crowds and emotional farewells from lifelong customers, the business is shutting down due to unsustainable financial numbers.
You know, they've been lined up outside
the building today at the sign of the beef carver.
The restaurant in Royal Oak will
officially close in just a matter of days.
Fox 2's Jamie Schrod is live there right now.
And Jamie, whether you ate there regularly or not,
this really is a sign that all of Metro Detroit has gotten used
to seeing for, what, 70 years now?
Absolutely.
And speaking of signs, Rup, look at this one.
This just posted on the door, closed out of roast beef.
The business closing a few hours earlier
because they're out of that beef.
But take a look at how
those lines looked earlier today, wrapped around.
The parking lot was packed.
People just truly coming out to show
their support for this business one last time.
Take a listen to what these customers have to say.
I cried. I cried.
And I'll probably cry when I go in here.
I go to the Beef Carver three to four times a week.
A lot better than McDonald's.
You know what you're going to get, and it's good food.
I've been coming here since I was a little kid also.
I was pretty devastated. Been eating at the one
that was over in Oakland Mall location since I was a kid.
And then my first job was there.
Then we have all the family visits from out of town,
California, Canada, Virginia.
They all come over here to eat.
How long have you been coming here?
Since I could eat solid food, literally. So since the 80s, we'll say.
My parents took us. We came. We enjoy it.
The food's ready. You eat and you can leave.
Everything is delicious. The servers are great.
sorry to see it's closing
though oh uh i got one of everything thank you it genuinely means
a whole lot this is uh this place means a whole lot to me
and i know it means a whole lot to
everybody in the community and uh it's a very emotional time
but uh we're very appreciative
of it all is there any chance of keeping
this very loved business open uh this was a long time coming
is a very very difficult decision
and despite this incredible turnout the numbers just aren't there
and this is unfortunately the end last day open will
be this sunday reporting live in royal oak
