AI GeneratedThe Florida Panthers face a setback as starting goaltender Jacob Markstrom is expected to be out for 10 to 14 days after being hit by a puck. In response, the team has recalled prospect Cooper Black. While Schmid is expected to start the upcoming game in Ottawa, Black is projected to make his NHL debut during the road trip, likely in the game against Pittsburgh.
There's breaking news coming
from the Florida Panthers, and it's not good news.
Cooper Black has been called up because Jacob Markstrom is out.
I have updates on how long Jacob Markstrom will be out of action,
when will Cooper Black possibly see his first game,
and a little bit more in terms of what
are the lines heading into this week
on this four-game road trip.
Crazy news.
again this is kind of an ironic update
because what is going on with Markstrom well we'll just
get into it right now guys this is Panthers Digest I'm
your host Greg Andrews comment like share
subscribe hype up the video appreciate all you guys supporting me
the channel and your Florida
Panthers so yeah I'm gonna start off with some
of the good stuff here are the lines heading into
this four-game road trip when I said Cooper Black
is on the bench right now he is technically the
backup to Schmid who looks like he will get
the start tomorrow in Ottawa but there is a chance
black could get in there
however on the second night of back-to-backs in Pittsburgh on Thursday
cooper black looks like he will be seeing
his very first nhl start i'm gonna show you his numbers in
just a moment guys so what the hell is happening
this is it here's cooper black being recalled
craziness. I don't know why that thing popped down there,
but hey, whatever. I don't care.
He has been recalled.
As you saw there, he is backing up Schmid for tomorrow night's game.
Markstrom left practice.
Here is the series of events that has taken place.
He left practice early yesterday.
Did not return, obviously. There was no word on anything.
Okay. So I was thinking when I read this earlier this morning,
maybe it's a personal thing,
something's happening who knows
but as we started to ramp up the day I was reading reports oh there
is this no Jacob Markstrom on the ice
for the Florida Panthers today before they head out to
Ottawa yeah it's not good news I don't care
with this report that I'm going to tell you right now
how long he will be out for it's not good as long
as two weeks after doing what his job is supposed
to be which he was hit by a puck
and you can see there Koopa Black will see some action so he will
be in net at some point in these next 10 days
to two weeks now this says as long as two weeks
other reports coming from other writers
are stating anywhere from about 10 to 14 days
the man got hit with a puck he's a goaltender
and he's out for two weeks you got you guys see
why I'm scratching my head here like
as irony would have it like that's his job he gets hit with
a puck and then he's not like what like i'd like
to know more did he did he get hit by a puck when
he wasn't wearing pads or was he wearing his pads
and he has back to everybody and some someone took
a shot and it hit him or maybe it got him in an area in the neck
or whatever, somewhere where
there's no padding and no protection.
I would like to know more about what the hell is going on.
He's our starting netminder. We're paying him $6 million a year.
I'd like to know more. Please,
yes, have that button there that says,
would you like to know more? Yes, I would love to know more
about what's going on with Jacob Markstrom
because this is a gut punch to the Florida Panthers.
again here are his numbers on the season he's
been pretty solid guys i i don't care what you
say a lot of people like oh he's garbage he's
this he's not he's been very good this year
give the man credit where credit
is due he's shown up he's done what he's supposed to do
the team in front of him has been playing very solidly defensively
and i don't think anybody
needs to complain about it
but this is a big hit for the Florida Panthers again three one and one
on the season 8 97% is 221 goals against average
and a shutout but man this one this one stings
I just I'm not that concerned I think Schmidt
can hold it down I think it'll be great to see
Cooper Black and and get him out there
to get some experience at the NHL level am I a little
worried though yes because our defense
is really gonna have to step up even more so than it has
been doing so I'll go back to this to show you guys
so with Cooper Black and back-to-back games
he could see his NHL debut right there in Ottawa
or Pittsburgh I'm probably gonna say the latter
end of this at Pittsburgh
but i don't know it it could be a tricky one because Ottawa has been
playing very well Pittsburgh has been a little bit i would say
for pick the lesser of two evils
right now because Pittsburgh is no they're no they're
no dummy team they're they're their numbers
don't speak how good the talent of how good
the talent is on the team yes they only have seven
points on the season they're three six and one
but they're still talented, you still have Sidney
Crosby, you still have Malkin, you know there's still good players
on that roster but I would
think you'd give Schmid the start tomorrow night, you put
in Cooper Black, maybe you see how Schmid
feels on the second day of the back-to-backs
but I have a feeling it'll be Schmid tomorrow
Black on Thursday, but not good news
for the Cats, out two weeks, let's hope it's not as serious as
you know as it is, let's hope it is only 10 days to two weeks
but let's hope we don't get worse
news as the days go by, so who is Cooper Black
who the hell is this kid? Here you go, he's the 6'9
behemoth that I told you guys about, 25 years
old, he's had some really good numbers with the
Charlotte Checkers on the season
this year .919 save percentage, 2.67 goals against average, what I
want you guys to take a look at are the amount of saves that he has had
so far this season 91 saves
in three games, so do the math
on that and say all right, he's roughly doing about 30 saves per
game, having about a .920 save percentage
if you really want to look at things he's letting right
about where it's at for goals against average at around two a game, even
though it says 2.67
goals against average, okay I still like it
his numbers are good, he's a massive body between the
pipes, he can move around, lateral movements pretty solid
when I was watching in preseason, he can play
I think he's earned the right to be where he
is Gerasimov is having some phenomenal numbers with
the Charlotte Checkers this season
but I think it's Cooper Black's time to rise up and go to
the next level to see what he's capable
of doing now I hope we don't do what we did with Bussey
which is you bring him in you're he's there for training camp
and you wave him I don't think
that's going to happen with this kid i think
we're going to keep him around for a while
if if my guess is correct if he plays enough this season
and he looks good i think he's going to be
our third goaltender and he's not going anywhere
for for a long time yes mid-20s but hey let's
take it so you see his Charlotte Checkers Calder
cup playoffs totals .892 save percentage 2.16 goals
against average so the good news like you see you
see they're under 60 saves so he was averaging
less than 30 saves per game
so the defense got a little bit better as he got into the playoffs
so i like what we're seeing from him i think he's
the perfect guy to come up i'm not overly
concerned about our two goaltenders i think he might have
a little bit of jitters in that first
game but the guys in front of him are going
to make him feel at home am i worried yes it's more
about Jacob Markstrom's health what is going
on he already had a game where he had stiffness and
Couldn't play the next one.
They called up Cooper Black, and he was their backup.
Came back in, has looked all right.
Now he gets hit with a puck.
Like, what the hell is going on?
But please, I hope there's some more
information that's going to come out
to tell us what is happening with Jacob Markstrom.
But that's it for this episode of Panther's Digest.
That's the breaking news.
Don't fret.
I think we're going to be okay with Schmidt and Nett.
I think we'll play great.
I think we're going to really step up against the Ottawa Senators
and throw them around a bit.
Just stick to our game.
Brady Tkachuk's going to step up.
Matthew Tkachuk.
I mean, everybody that's been stepping up in the last several games
is going to do exactly what they've been doing.
Don't stop what they're doing.
Keep putting the pressure on, passing the puck.
Power play is going to be great.
I'm feeling good about this road trip.
I really am.
So, guys, if I have more news coming out
about anything related to Jacob Markstrom,
I will let you guys know.
And anything going on with any of the other players,
any line changes, so on and so forth,
that is pretty much going to do it.
By the way, the fourth line, if you guys want to check that out,
You can search for the Florida Panthers' fourth line.
They have released who is going to be on it.
Let me just go here really quick
so I can actually tell you who that is.
That fourth line looks like it's going to be Boko,
Schwint, and Hathaway on this road trip.
So there you have it, guys.
That's it.
Until next time, go Cats.
