President Trump is in North Carolina tonight trying
to energize Republicans in a state where
the GOP Senate candidate is fighting to gain ground with voters.
It's one of many states
right now that Trump is visiting this week
as part of his midterm campaign blitz. And
Fox's Chelsea Torres is live in Greenville, North Carolina.
So Chelsea, President Trump
is pledging to spend heavily across
the country for these midterm elections.
What is his specific focus tonight?
Sure. Hi, Kelsey. Well, for tonight,
he already plans to speak about how
his administration has driven down crime.
One of the main talking points
for the former RNC chair, Michael Wadley,
who's running in the Senate race here against the former governor
and Democratic candidate,
Roy Cooper. But that's been one
of the main talking points for them. Not only that,
but also just the manufacturing boom
and bigger paychecks for seniors and hard
and working Americans here in the North Carolina.
But I will tell you also,
Kelsey is that President Trump announced earlier today
that he's investing so much not just his
time but also his money. He says
by the time election day comes he will have spent more than
400 million dollars just for this entire campaign blitz
that he's been doing for Republican
candidates. That includes advertising,
that includes get out the vote programs and of course
a lot of rallies that will be seen here in about 30 minutes
at the Pitt Greenville Airport. Kelsey?
So Chelsea we've seen recent polling showing
former Governor Roy Cooper with a double digit
lead and our own power rankings show Republican
support slipping among rural voters. So how's
the Trump campaign addressing those numbers as well?
Yeah, definitely. I mean, that's kind of
why he's here today, right, is this is more
of a rural area of eastern North Carolina. But even
Vice President J.D. Vance was just in the western part
of the state last night talking to rural
voters in Hendersonville, again, stumping for these Republican voters.
And one thing that we've
seen in the Fox News power rankings is that rural voters right now,
less than half of them actually
feel that they will vote for a GOP candidate come November.
So this really is the last push
that not just President Trump and J.D. Vance,
but the entire cabinet of the Trump administration
is trying to push right now ahead of midterms.
And so Chelsea, early voting just started in
the Tar Heel State last week.
What are the turnout numbers looking like so far?
Yeah, it's been interesting.
The first day, really, they saw a surge well over 40%. And as
of today, those voters are not slowing down.
The North Carolina Board of Elections has seen a 30%
increase in voters heading to the polls compared
to this time back in 2022. And Chelsea, I want to
mention it's not just here in North Carolina
that these Board of Elections are seeing early voter
surge, but also in South Carolina and even Ohio.
When I was on the ground there just a couple weeks
ago talking to people, they said
that this is the biggest turnout that they've seen in years.
And we know it'll be busy from now until election day.
So where's the president headed next?
So his next stop will be South Carolina.
He'll be in Clemson tomorrow night.
After that, he'll be in Iowa on Thursday, Georgia on Friday, Saturday.
I might have gotten that
wrong. Chelsea, I might have those dates a little wrong.
But yes, I don't even know what today is.
Today is Tuesday. So then Wednesday,
he's in South Carolina, Thursday, Iowa.
Yes, we have the map actually.
And then he'll be in Georgia on Saturday. Okay, good.
Chelsea, you're covered
because we have a map right in front of us that shows the dates,
and it is a busy time of year in trying
to keep track of all these candidates.
We totally get it, and it's a busy schedule.
We can basically say they're going
to be all over the place for the next two weeks.
All right, Chelsea Torres in North Carolina tonight.
Yes.
Thanks.
I'm with Chelsea.
Thank you.
I'm like, what day is today?
No, you handled it though, girlfriend.
All right, let's talk.
Let's go.
