James Kaufman provides a global update on multiple tropical disturbances and storms. Key areas of concern include the Atlantic, where Tropical Storm Dolly and a Gulf of Mexico disturbance are being monitored, and the Pacific, where storms Laurel and Karina pose potential threats to Hawaii and other regions.
James Kaufman, World News Report Today.
Ladies and gentlemen,
we have several tropical disturbances and tropical storms.
We'll go over several of them right now.
Start off over here in the Atlantic.
We have a storm that was already a tropical storm named Dolly.
It seemed to dissipate upon Dolly's death.
And it currently only has a 10% chance of formation,
although it's moving into much warmer waters.
We also have a disturbance off the Louisiana,
Mississippi, Florida coast over here.
It really looks like it's intensifying quickly.
This says only a 20% chance of formation.
It looks like it was updated fairly recently for the last few hours.
Take a look at the Pacific,
and then I'll show you some paths for Dolly,
or some spaghetti paths for Dolly, spaghetti models.
And I will also show you the enhanced satellite
of the system in the Gulf.
It looks much worse on satellite.
All right, here is Hawaii.
We know we got hit by the first tropical storm.
I guess it was a hurricane in many years, 60 years almost.
We have Laos,
and it's on track to actually impact Hawaii,
Although it's still a tropical storm,
maximum sustained winds 45 miles an hour.
The central pressure is dropping quick to 1,003 millibars.
South of Hawaii, we have a storm with a 40% chance of formation.
It will be moving into the Philippine,
Asian, Korea area here very shortly.
and we do have some stuff already happening over there
that we won't go over.
Then we have Carina, Carina, 90% chance of formation
and it seems like it's moving up into the north
and probably will stay out of everyone's way.
It'll probably be a hurricane by tomorrow
and it's already a tropical storm Carina.
We have a tropical storm Lyle,
Tropical Storm Karina, an area here south
of Hawaii moving towards the west.
There are two systems, one in the Gulf and one in the Atlantic.
All right, we just had a storm go onshore.
So, Dale, we watched this one go onshore.
Tropical Depression strength, not very strong.
996 millibars i was trying to get there
but uh it split japan and taiwan and went right on
or into china we have another one
that started over here really these are two separate systems
we have 22 and 23 very hard to tell
which is going where it looks like they're both
headed north here so we'll keep an eye
on those but i think you're gonna stay out of everyone's
way what a weird place for a storm
to really configure now there's hawaii there i thought
we'd be able to see that other tropical wave here
but it's not showing up on the
the Japanese Meteorological Society's map here
for some reason this doesn't sound right but
This was actually up to about two minutes ago.
This is what's left of the tropical storm named Dolly.
Now, again, it's getting into warmer waters,
so it might strengthen, and it's definitely fairly strong still.
So I think it is a conceived formation of something
also coming off of the Columbia area here,
Venezuela-Columbia area here.
on the northern part of South America.
All right, this is Dolly's spaghetti models,
and you can see they're all going in the exact same direction.
A lot of them are north of Puerto Rico.
A lot of them go right over Puerto Rico.
A lot of them hit the Dominican Republic.
Most of them go over the Dominican Republic.
Some of them hit Cuba.
Some of them skirt between the Bahamas and Cuba.
and a couple of them end up in the Gulf of Mexico
where this storm could actually strengthen.
All right, next, enhanced satellite radar from the Gulf of Mexico.
You'll see a lot of moisture coming across Florida
really to join the system that's trying to form right here
off the coast of Mississippi, off the coast of Alabama and Florida.
And we can see that there's a good chance that this could pick up here.
It's not moving in any real direction.
It's pretty much standing by.
Again, it's sucking up moisture from all around it.
You have to keep an eye on this,
although it has a very small chance of becoming a dangerous storm.
There's a good chance that it could bring a lot of rain,
including flooding, to places like Mississippi,
places like Alabama, and Florida.
So keep an eye on this one for sure.
All right, taking you over
to windy.com for a little AI forecast here.
What we have going on right now is we have Laurel here
and Karina just behind that.
Laurel has a chance of hitting Hawaii.
I think Karina is going north of that.
Talked about that.
Surrender to Dolly.
You're seeing a little rotation here,
as you can see the rotation there,
just off the coast of Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.
So everything's falling into place.
I don't know if anything's really going to come after us
with any strength, but you have Dolly inbound.
Got a little disturbance in the Gulf,
and we have at least two dangerous disturbances in the Pacific as well.
God bless you guys.
We'll leave to a little AI of the winds over the next few days.
