Fresh Mobile Market gives away free produce

Got a great story for you. We're talking about free fresh produce up for grabs today in southwest Atlanta. No registration needed. This is a big deal. Fulton County's Fresh Mobile Market is hosting a giveaway at Hillside International Truth Center. And that's where Eli Jordan is standing by watching everything unfold right now. Eli, it looks like a beautiful day. The sun is shining out there. And it's probably going to get pretty busy, huh? Oh, yeah. Well, it has been busy. This was a packed parking lot before you came just a few minutes ago. I mean, this was packed over 100 cars. They send out a whole lot here at 2450 Cascade Road. Now, this is, you know, first come, first serve. You don't have to register. So if you're late and they don't have any more, well, next time you'll have to get here earlier. But this is the Fulton Fresh Mobile Market, and it's part of the UGA Extension Fulton County Program. And with me right now is Shirley Dodd, who is the Fulton Fresh Mobile Market Coordinator. Hey, Shirley, how you doing? I'm great. How are you? I'm all right. Not too bad. So, I mean, you've got a lot of success out here. I mean, this parking lot was packed just a few minutes ago. You guys have done this before, haven't you? Exactly. We had one last week down at the Gathering in Union City. We gave out close to 700 bags down there. We're giving out 600 here today. It's a first-come, first-served. And it's really good because of the food insecurities that's going on right now and the cost of food. So this is a free giveaway. Anyone is welcome. As long as we have supplies, we'll be here to give them out. What all are people getting today? Call it a meal in a bag. It's cabbage, Vidalia onions, bell pepper, bell pepper, and I forgot. All right. We've got bell pepper, potatoes, onions, apples, and cabbage, too. Yes. It's a cabbage, onion, bell pepper, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, and apples. That is definitely a meal in a bag. It's a meal in a bag, for sure. Yeah. Absolutely. And so, I mean, this is kind of like you guys don't do this necessarily, you know, throughout the year, the free giveaway, do you? Well, during the course of the year, we have the we go into food deserts and pick a host site and we do an educational presentation and then we give out free bags of produce. And so what do you know as far as education? What do you guys teach people? I guess we teach people different things. We teach people how to grow. we teach about um salt intake high blood pressure uh we teach a number of educational things uh during the course of the year this table was completely full just a few minutes ago and now it's almost all gone but apparently this is very important to people who don't get the you know any time you know a discount or free food i mean people jump on it because the prices are tough exactly and anytime we do an event it's on fulton county's website it's on university of georgia's website.
