All right, folks, it's been a busy afternoon for sure all over Arizona,
and we'll show you the big map here.
There's still plenty of weather
to get through before we calm things down during the overnight hours.
Most of the heaviest weather is in eastern and northern Arizona,
and we've got a lot of colors on the map.
First of all, the sort of deeper green that you see on the left side
of your map, that indicates the flash flood watch that we remain under,
not for the valley, but not far away.
You folks in Yavapai County and over in Coconino County
and parts of Pinal and so forth.
Then, in the northeastern corner of the state,
a big area under a flash flood warning.
Navajo and Apache counties specifically until 9:15.
And then in the yellow zone,
that's the tornado watch that is out until 9 o'clock.
And for good reason.
This collection of storms has been racing its way out of Graham
and Greenlee counties on its way northward
into Navajo and Apache counties has been a serious mess for sure.
We've had several
severe thunderstorm warnings out.
Most of those have now expired. However, we're taking you up
here to one of the strongest storms we've been watching.
Earlier, about, let's see, four minutes
ago, the tornado warning associated with this storm expired.
And at the moment, we do not have
any additional warnings associated with it,
but it's just south of Snowflake now. We're starting
to see the leading edges of this rain move past Taylor
and into Snowflake, but the very heaviest
weather is just starting to move itself
into Taylor out there near the airport. So again,
if you're in Taylor, be prepared
because this storm has produced tennis ball-sized hail. That
is going to ruin your car. I guarantee it.
That means broken windshields, hundreds of dents.
You're going to be in trouble.
So whatever you can do to protect your property, do so. It's not
deemed to be a severe thunderstorm now.
Nevertheless, there certainly could be some large
hail in here. So again, along Route 77,
it's just about to start moving up 77 right into town.
So just be extra careful there in Snowflake.
That is one of the heaviest storms that we're watching right now.
As we widen things out a bit, again,
anywhere from the Arizona-New Mexico border westward,
you've got a shot at some strong thunderstorms.
Again, nothing severe at the moment, so that is good news.
But they continue their movement from south
to north at about 45 miles an hour.
Things have been pretty quiet in Flagstaff, although as you get just
a little bit west of Flagstaff out toward Williams and west of there,
or rather east of there toward Belmont,
we've got a pretty good collection of storms starting
to pass over I-40, so we keep an eye on that.
Oak Creek Canyon remains under a flash flood warning
and in fact i'll wrap up this weather
segment by giving you an idea of which
of these canyons we're talking about a flash flood warning
out until 8:15 for Oak Creek including all
of the usual spots that you see there in the red box if
you have interests along Oak Creek please
be extra cautious tonight that creek has been on the rise
just south of there at Wet Beaver Creek you can see
the areas that are threatened Castle a
National Monument if you've been there
to the monument you know that's a you don't want to be
down in there when that creek is on the rise there's nowhere to go
but straight up so be extra
cautious there on down the way there you see
this is for West Clear Creek also Verde Lake the Rock and
River Ranch State Park and Indian Maiden Falls under the gun
and then finally our fourth one
here this warning out till eight this is for Fossil Creek
and if you know Fossil Creek you
know there are lots of spots there that can really flood very quickly
so that is going to do it for
the warnings that we have out right now here
in the valley we're getting off pretty easily so far
we really haven't seen much trouble in fact we've seen plenty
of sunny skies today and we may finish
out our night under pretty nice conditions.
The good news comes in our extended forecast and I'll
wrap it up with this.
We're going to move into the weekend in great shape with daytime highs
at a perfect 79 degrees for both your Friday
and Saturday and Sunday is looking pretty good too.
