James Kaufman, World News Report Today.
Death divers survive a jump off a huge iceberg in Greenland.
Death diving is pretty much exactly what it sounds like.
The hobby, also known as dodds diving
or dodzing in its mother tongue of Norwegian,
is a form of cliff diving that involves jumping
horizontally before curling into a pipe the last second
in order to nearly avoid a fatal belly flop.
Recently, a group of death divers managed
to make the activity even more dangerous
by hucking themselves off a 20-plus meter iceberg.
The stunt was engineered by Zero Zero Nation,
a Norwegian lifestyle brand
that first began in e-sports and has since expanded into action sports.
The jump was performed by divers Charles Torp
and Combe Giraudade.
Quote, it's been on my mind since I started dodging,
actually, explained Giraudade.
Like, what defines a dodge the most?
I feel like the spirit of dodging is jumping off an iceberg.
It's so raw, it's so pure, it's so dodds, you know?
I don't know, but they seemed confident in it.
so they trekked over to Greenland and began surveying the area
for an appropriate hunk of ice to throw themselves off.
Death diving is extremely dangerous.
In fact, Colm Giridon broke his back just a year ago
attempting a 34-meter dive,
but diving from a glacier adds a whole new slew
of complications to the stunt.
The team had to take into account currents,
shifting takeoff points,
The possibility of a piece of the glacier breaking off or falling off
and the massive chunks of ice floating in their landing zone.
Quote, this is the type of jump you start to think about
your loved ones, people you care about, said Torp.
But I think our plan is solid.
I talked with Combe yesterday.
We're not here to take the biggest risk.
We're not here to prove to someone that we're the best at this.
We're here to make a sick memory.
In the end, they found their white whale
and hucked themselves off of it.
Both ended up with only minor injuries from the stunt
and were able to walk away.
When will you take your first death dive?
I think I'm personally going to pass.
Please give us a thumbs up and share.
Look how small this gentleman is that's taking the jump
Give it a whirl, folks.
It looks like, well, a ton of fun.
God bless.
