All right, time to run down the week in music, courtesy of local
recording artist in her own right and Sun Radio DJ, Susanna Shafell.
Thank you so much for being here.
My pleasure.
Chock full, I'm sure, as always.
Back to the gills, yes.
And we're going to start with tonight.
What's going on?
Yeah.
Tonight, we head south for a great show
at Sam's Town Point with the Guthrie Girls.
Have you heard of the Guthrie Girls?
I don't know if I have.
They are the granddaughters of the one and only Woody Guthrie.
Oh, well, that's a pretty good Guthrie.
Pretty amazing family legacy they come from, a musical family.
super talented sweet harmonies you're going
to get kind of a honky-tonk kind of you know roots
country vibe from them uh kathy
and sarah lee guthrie they are just incredible and i believe
this is a residency if i'm not mistaken i know
they play quite often at samstown point that's
sort of their home base um but i just thought what a great night
when uh wednesday night you
know just just head down and hear some great
honky-tonk sounds yeah and have you been to
samstown point yet really cool old i mean
if you want a taste of real austin samstown point is
kind of where it's at it's like sort
of hidden off Manchaca Road south of Slaughter just like
it's on old manchaca road yeah
and it's tucked away in this neighborhood and it's just this
little you know very very humble
but very groovy vibes uh you know you walk in low ceilings kind
of thing but everybody's two-stepping across
the floor yeah be prepared to dance it's a good time
That's coming up tonight. What about tomorrow?
Tomorrow we head over to, it's a road show
going on at ACL Live 310
so the kind of little sister
venue to ACL Live Moody Theater right below it
at 310. Katie Pruitt
lovely artist, we've been playing on Sun Radio
kind of
has a little bit of country leaning but definitely
more of a pop artist, great songwriter
she's based in Nashville these days
but she will be there with Judy Blank
a great local
songstress opening up for her
So that's at 8 p.m. to Thursday. Yeah. Katie Pruitt.
What like gorgeous, pristine voice, like really, really amazing songs.
You're going to be swaying
and probably singing along. Let's say let's earworms.
It's got to be so cool for you guys when you're playing
so much of one artist on the radio and then they come in like,
here's what I've been telling you about.
Here's what I've been doing for you.
Go out. Yeah. Yeah. We try to do that.
It's like, hey, you've been loving this song.
Go see this artist and support them.
You know, so, yeah, that's your opportunity.
Friday is your pick of the week.
Friday's pick of the week because it's all about Sun Radio.
it's uh we've been chock full
of events lately we had Tom Petty day last weekend we had Texas
radio live the week before this Friday we head down
to see our friends in Buda, Texas just south
of town uh for our Sun Radio Southbound event it happens
the fourth Friday a lot yeah fourth
Friday of every month uh
with great artists uh we've got Sour Bridges lined up for you
awesome band uh this is 7 to 9 p.m. this Friday
at Meridian on Main Street in downtown historic
Buda, your chance to kind of explore
a great little Texas town just south.
You really should do that.
Yeah, it's really sweet.
I'm not down there enough.
It's crazy down there.
Yeah, especially during the holidays,
like I know we're not quite there yet, but we're
getting into it.
A lot of these places decorate big
and they have fun little fall festivals and activities
and stuff.
So it's kind of nice to experience
that and get out of the big city for a minute.
For sure.
Get yourself a meal or a drink
or a coffee, whatever before the show if you want to do
that.
And Buda's booming, man.
They've got so many great restaurants down there.
there like six years ago and it was just starting
to kind of like percolate and now it's like they
have so many great great little spots
so meridian friday uh sun radio southbound with sour bridges
sour bridges every time they come oh they're
so fun they're so great what about saturday a really
fun latin music show happening at continental club
on south congress um dos santos is a really
incredible chicago-based kind of cumbia
um cumbia latin groove band that will make will make you
dance i keep saying that but it's like it's true you kind
of can't listen to this music
it's like you will something will look like
a real dot if you do not move something on your
body you'll just kind of start ticking like
this at the bar if you don't know what else to do just
do that you can get away with that i get away
with that a lot i think yes it's fine it's fine
people understand those voluntary response
totally exactly exactly and uh paired with
local cumbia outfit money chicha great band
so those are two very powerful uh like cumbia
I think psychedelic cumbia, just lots of, like,
organ and guitar and all these incredible sounds and that beat,
just that it's infectious, that groove.
10 p.m., kind of a late show, but it's
a Saturday night at Continental Club.
Hopefully, the horns finally get away
and you're going there to celebrate.
I'm going to speak that into existence.
You're not drowning your sorrows.
You're there partying with the movies.
Oh, my God.
That's Saturday.
And if you haven't quite got enough music over these last few days,
you've still got something for us Sunday.
Sunday is your little cherry on the cake,
a big road show for all you 90s nostalgia fans,
Smashing Pumpkins at Moody Center this Sunday.
That's as big as it gets.
Yeah, so you can get a little emo and melancholy.
It's the perfect time of year, Smashing Pumpkins.
Did you just see?
I just saw in my algorithm, they said, you know, if that Smashing
Pumpkins song, 1979, came out now, it'd be called 2010.
2010!
That made me very sad.
Because I do remember buying that in 1995.
Totally.
Be that as it may.
Yeah.
I'm sure that's going to be a great show.
Sunday at Moody Center.
There's going to be a lot of Gen Xers just swaying
their hearts out over there.
I have to believe in my kids.
Totally.
Because, man, I'm sure you were in bands
from the 60s and 70s in the 90s.
I think about that a lot.
When I was growing up, I was into Led Zeppelin.
It's kind of the equivalent.
It's like Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins
and Pearl Jam are what those bands were to us.
Yeah, for sure.
Cool.
All shows, big and small, presented to you from Sun Radio.
We appreciate it, as always.
My pleasure. Thanks, Dave.
