Coward (2026) | Official Trailer | MUBI
Love, art, and survival collide in the trenches of World War I in Coward (2026), an intimate war drama from acclaimed Belgian filmmaker Lukas Dhont, the director of Close and Girl.
Set in 1916, the film follows Pierre, a young Belgian soldier eager to prove himself on the front lines. Behind the trenches, he meets Francis, who has been tasked with lifting the troops’ spirits by staging a theatrical performance. As violence surrounds them, the two young men find refuge in art, companionship, and an unexpected romance that challenges their ideas of courage, masculinity, and survival. Starring Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne, Coward earned both actors a shared Best Actor prize at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival.
