Video Summary
AI GeneratedA discussion featuring retired Marine Corps General Arnold Panaro regarding the geopolitical implications of U.S. diesel imports from Russia, the development of a Chinese-Russian Starlink alternative, and the ongoing tensions with Iran.
A Russian tanker loaded with 40,000 tons
of diesel is en route to New York.
It is the first shipment under President Trump's deal
with Vladimir Putin
to try to lower fuel prices here at home.
This is Ukraine warns that China
and Russia are working together on a Starlink alternative,
one that could provide Moscow with a major battlefield advantage.
Arnold Panaro is a retired two-star Marine Corps general,
also CEO of the Panaro Group, and joins us now.
General, great to see you.
So 40,000 metric tons of diesel turns into about 12.5 million gallons.
People say, wow, 12.5 million gallons.
That's less than 8% of our daily consumption of diesel.
And diesel, according to AAA, $6.31 a gallon today.
Is this going to make any difference?
John, that's just a couple of hours of usage in a day here.
Look, reducing fuel prices is a very valid,
legitimate, and necessary policy goal.
The president has a number of very positive initiatives in that regard.
However, I don't think that lifting sanctions on Russia
and buying diesel fuel from Russia
and fueling their war machine, which just yesterday had
a massive another ballistic missile attack on Kyiv,
killing women, children, knocking out
their energy grid so the Ukrainians were free.
So my hope would be they kind of change their mind,
beef up the other initiatives they have,
turn that tanker around and go in a different direction.
I'm kind of identify with the chairman
of the Armed Services Committee, Republican Roger Wicker.
i'm in the same camp with him
on this regard yes i mean tell us about russia here putin says he is
willing to come back to the table for trilateral talks
with with ukraine there may be something on
the books for next month and then he launches
this all out assault like he did what's he doing look
that russia is russia putin's goal
is to basically move back to the old soviet empire
territory which means he wants to move west he
was never going to stop at ukraine that's why
we've got to stop him in ukraine
so he hasn't changed his stripe any more than iran has changed
their stripe he's not getting anywhere
which is i mean that's the crazy thing about all of this
but he is apparently according to some reports partnering
with china on something that could
gain him battlefield advantage it's an alternative
to Starlink it's called Rosa dag what could
that do well first of all anything that we could
do to keep Russia from building keep China
from building Russia's military capability particularly
a technological advance like
that that would help their command and control.
Look, Starlink is a brilliant piece of technology
and it's very necessary. Ukraine uses it to help defend itself.
Our Pentagon and our leadership
there is encouraging more
and more commercial firms to bring their technology into the Pentagon.
So we should not want Russia to get anything
that's anywhere equivalent to that. The other
point I would make, because it's been in the news,
and that is we should not have anything
we get from commercial.
Private citizens should not be in the position of dictating how that
material is used on the battlefield
no matter how influential that's an inherently governmental
decision private citizens should not be involved
in that so let me just decipher that so you're
saying Elon Musk should stay the heck out certainly
if he's a private citizen and that's his technology
and he is by the way our pentagon our pentagon leaders
this is what they're why they're mad
with Anthropic because Anthropic told them you can't use some
of our capabilities so we can't
have that so when he landed
in Fort Myers president Trump was asked a question about
One of his ambassadors is saying that there might
be a strike against Iran this weekend.
And the president's saying, well, I don't know
who you're talking to because I don't know anything about that.
But early November, we're going to have
a third carrier strike group in the region.
Tremendous amount of firepower to have just sitting around.
What do you think is going to happen after the midterms?
Well, John, today is a very meaningful day for our country
and the United States Marine Corps.
Forty-three years ago today, Iran
and its terrorist proxies killed 241 Marines in the barracks in Beirut.
and they've not changed their stripes at all
so they continue so at some point and we need to
make sure we have all the capabilities
so the president has an unlimited set of options
to use i personally continue to believe
the only way we're going to get on top of this and in the
war like everybody says is we've got to take out
the center of gravity we've got to take out
the IRGC Republican Guards that led the attack
on the Marine barracks in Beirut today at Camp
Lejeune, there's a memorial like there
is every year to honor those that made the ultimate
sacrifice. So Iran's time is coming.
I don't think it will come before the mid years.
Well, they seem to be completely out of money.
So we'll see where this goes. General,
always good to catch up with you.
Have a great weekend. Great to be here.
