Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe video discusses the growing disconnect between Donald Trump's campaign rhetoric and the actual concerns of voters. While Trump focuses on cultural grievances and personal attacks, interviews conducted by Fox News—even at his own rallies—reveal that voters, including Gen Z and former supporters, are primarily preoccupied with inflation, gas prices, and the cost of living.
What are you expecting the president to say
and what are some of the issues that you
are looking to this election cycle?
I'm hoping to see some relief about the war,
some inflation come down, interest rates come
down.
It was at this moment that he knew, he fucked up.
It appears Fox were hoping a group of students
to hit all the hot button topics, you know,
trans athletes, socialism, Mamdani, but instead they got this.
Who are you most excited to hear
from the president today and some of the issues that
you're most concerned about as a student?
I'm just interested to hear what he has to say.
Just some sustainability when I'm, you know, shopping,
getting gas for my truck, things like that.
It's just absurd pricing right now.
Well, absolutely.
Now- It's clear Donald Trump is doing everything
possible to convince Republicans that the MAGA base is ready
and roaring for the midterms.
Huge rallies, huge enthusiasm, polls are fake, everything's fantastic.
The numbers show Democrats leading Republicans
by 10 points in the race for Congress.
The Trump factor.
So if you look here, nearly 6 in 10 voters
in our poll say that Donald Trump is a factor.
And by a margin of 2 to 1, it's a factor in opposition to him.
It's a bad.
How are you feeling right now about the cost of living?
It's ridiculous.
And then Fox News decided to do something dangerous for the president.
They decided to go to said rallies and talk to people.
Now, this would presumably be the safest possible place
to find enthusiastic Trump supporters, right, at his own rallies.
It's not exactly picking up a camera
and interviewing people outside a vegan coffee shop in Brooklyn, is it?
These are people who are going out the way to come
and hear the president speak.
But when Fox interviewed a group of students, undoubtedly hoping
for a soundbite they could use to prove that Gen Z loves Trump,
they got answers about how worrying the state of the economy is.
Things like gas prices, groceries.
The left has done a very good job at.
That's why we want to chat with some college students here on campus.
I'm going to come over here, Andrew.
What are you expecting the president to say?
And what are some of the issues that you
are looking to this election cycle?
I'm hoping to see some relief about the war.
some inflation come down, interest rates come down,
just some sustainability.
When I'm, you know, shopping, getting gas for my truck, things like that,
it's just absurd pricing right now.
So I'm just hoping to see some relief in the economy.
Well, absolutely. Now,
the latest Fox News power rankings say that the race here is shifting,
leaning Republican to likely Republican.
All the issues that Trump wants to avoid
talking about and instead focuses
on things you know very pressing issues like LeBron James
and what about LeBron James did you see that deal
no he's doing during the national anthem
he's practicing his golf swing he's practicing
so what the hell is that no it's a big scandal
kind of a story what's it all about i don't
understand it i don't understand that we conduct
LeBron unrelated um how do you feel about
the fact that Trump again tried to take shots
Say that again, unrelated to the game, how
do you feel again that Trump tried to take shots at you
tonight while you were playing as well, yeah yeah
the slow news day at the office, you know
slow news day in the office, Chris, this sentiment
was actually echoed in another Fox segment which
is currently on their front page, pretty scathing
headline, they interviewed students at Clemson
discussing how they had become
so frustrated that they were even considering voting for the
Democrat in South Carolina's Senate race.
Another student told Fox News that they had supported
Trump before, but believed some things had, quote, went off the edge.
And what's interesting is this
keeps happening on Fox because earlier this week,
Steve Ducey went to Florida, of all places, where
you might reasonably expect Fox to encounter plenty
of Republican voters and Trump sycophants.
But even in Trump country, with Fox and friends holding the mic,
it still went wrong for the
President, they've forgotten Florida, they think we're, yeah we're red
no we're not, we're gonna
make this swing, everybody in my block
is Republican, they have told me for the first time they're
voting blue straight down, next up I stopped
by a cut above the rest in Columbus, Ohio, Ohio is a
swing state so everybody comes to Ohio during election time
for the governor's race, who's for
Ramaswamy, Ramaswamy.
Who's Raimi?
All of us.
She came up hard.
You know, she came up like some of us came up.
And it's really, it's not a race to me.
And as far as...
Yeah, I back that man.
Yeah.
Because voters want to talk about things like the economy,
the direction of the country,
the issues that are actually affecting how they vote.
And the pattern is becoming almost comical, right?
Trump is out here saying,
let me tell you about this guy's ass
and voters are saying how much is gas? Trump is saying did
you hear what Jessica Tarlow said?
Voters are asking what happened to grocery prices and bringing
everything down day one.
Trump is yelling Fox shouldn't interview Abdul El-Saeed and voters are
asking can you explain how the economy
is going to get better after the midterms?
At some point the electorate is demonstrating
the attention span of a parent dealing with
a toddler. Sometimes in the course of a campaign,
Brad, you'll see a candidate or a party that's
trailing in the polls begin to catch some momentum.
They hit on an issue or an event
turns public opinion in their favor.
I haven't seen that yet. The president has been out
campaigning vigorously,
but I'm not sure it's making any difference in what difference it's
make I'm not sure is helping.
You look at that situation, for example, in Texas. He's calling
James Talerico, Talerico.
Now, look, it's true that James Talerico has endorsed some pretty
exotic positions in his in his years in public life
and that he is not on paper, at least a very
good fit for the state of Texas.
However, what he does not seem to be is a freak. You see him. He
seems mild-mannered, he seems pleasant,
he's not an unattractive candidate, whether you agree with
him or not. And then you look at some of the events
that have been happening, Brett. I mean,
this cuddling up to Vladimir Putin at this moment
and his turning his back seemingly once again
on Volodymyr Zelensky, I don't think that plays well.
Putin, the American public isn't really
sold on Zelensky. But it favors him, you know, by some margin.
They can't stand Putin. So I don't
see this White House and this campaigning
by the president as having made much headway so far
of the kind that, you know,
you can sort of see just watching the campaigning.
If you look at Fox's own latest national poll,
six in 10 voters say that the cost of living
is their top economic concern.
And Democrats are actually leading Republicans among registered
voters on the congressional ballot, 47 to 35.
So when you partner this with the way that
Republicans have been acting recently,
the fact that they're running around states they did not
expect to be worrying about, Kansas, Iowa,
South Carolina, and Florida, it's clear there's an issue
within the party.
There's a potential President Trump visit to Minnesota.
Would that help or hurt
things for you? Do you welcome him?
Listen, I don't know anything about his schedule. I'm
certainly not in charge of his schedule.
What I am looking for is to bring people together
in this campaign, whether they voted for Trump,
whether they voted for Kamala Harris or whether
they didn't vote at all because they felt disenfranchised.
That is the ultimate endorsement
for me, is that the voters on November 3rd,
all Minnesotans coming together to say we need change
here in Minnesota and I'm ready to provide that change.
But would he help your case in your race
if you were to visit and endorse?
Look, again, I think for some people it might,
and for some people it might not.
Okay.
Prices are getting out of control.
I go to the grocery store,
and I, like, I have to pick and choose what I want.
I can't get, like, everything.
Economy.
Just gas prices, food prices.
Saving democracy, voting against authoritarianism.
Gas prices should be down right now, but they're not.
At least not as much, so...
You know, he already mentioned
there's something behind the scenes going on,
so he said they're going to investigate,
So hopefully we'll see the results of that pretty soon.
Health care for everyone and just feeling like someone
who is supporting the people
rather than the billionaires gets in there.
Affordability is definitely right up there at the top
and putting restraints on the current
administration is extremely important to me as well
because they seem to be running rough
shot over everybody and everything, especially the courts.
I think for Alaska, obviously, natural resources,
pro-development, our military is critically important,
and I think my party aligns to that very well, very strong.
While Trump is spending precious final campaign days
in states he won comfortably,
he's not speaking to these issues that even Fox's own viewers
and people they're interviewing are trying to address.
You've got some blue threads running through your state.
Your governor's a Democrat.
Washington Post sizes it up this way.
Here's what's making the Kansas Senate race so competitive.
They write, Kansas has turned into a battleground
with a unique Democratic candidate and Trump's
unpopular policies hurting the Midwest.
Your candidate's from the Kansas City area.
He's a pastor.
And he went after you the other night.
Call 4-5 here on Iran, the war, et cetera.
Here's what he said.
The Ukrainians trying to defend themselves
are the reason why we have record diesel prices.
Nobody believes that this happened in response
to the war in Iran that didn't need to happen,
was not a necessary war.
And this is why the prices went to record highs.
And Roger Marshall supported that.
But you got you're lower than the national average,
but now 397 a gallon a year ago,
you were 273. What is hurting? What is dragging down your campaign?
Is it Iran? Is it gas? Is it diesel? Is it all of it? Tell us.
It's the cost of gasoline and the cost of diesel,
no doubt about it, that that is it.
But Republicans, people understand if Republicans are in control
when this war is over with,
that those prices are going to come down.
I mean, Fox's own reporting now acknowledges something remarkable.
Their words, their headline is, surprising cracks in the MAGA base.
That tells you everything.
