Alright, well this is my life right now.
Got Barry pulling me down.
Hold on.
Well, good morning
everybody. Welcome to day
two of our Damascus, Virginia
to New York adventure.
Yesterday was a lot of rain.
We are waking up in the rain today
as well. We're going to get packed
up, take camp
down here in the rain, which is always fun.
Get on the road and
find some breakfast. Let's
going yep he's
gonna go back
out same way
there goes Adam
and Freya hold
on hold
on yep all right
well other than taking down the tent the uh
the rain stayed off for us we're gonna run up to uh
about 30 minutes from here get out
of camp grab some breakfast smoky no not smoky mountain lake
lodge i think it's actually crazy enough where
they had Dirty Dancing but we're gonna see if
we can get some food there
not too easy get out of here so let's
see what we can do step one cleared
oh yeah i got
a little fishy there every good camp's hard
to get out of right all right we're
gonna make oh i can't even get out
of camp right we're gonna make our way for uh some breakfast
and you see you guys on the road a crazy exit
to our uh our campground for last night because of
the rain definitely kind of a soupy muddy place we
are riding towards breakfast or dinner or let
me try that again riding towards breakfast
or lunch should be about 30 minutes and uh
today's thought is this section brings us
to Warm Springs Virginia so it should
be roughly a hundred
and thirteen miles to to get there let's get some food
let's get some energy let's get some more coffee
and and hit the road it's
nice to have
a full night's
sleep well
this is crazy
well
a gorgeous
property
man now I know why they
were dirty dancing out
here look how cute Fira
look what a freaking amazing property
this building is crazy huge and
beautiful i'm trying to track down
this restaurant we got it just someone just ate something here
unless they were staying no food all right this is kind of our thing
so far on the trip so just
like Brushy Mountain Outpost uh this place just closed
as well um so no Dirty Dancing lodge but
they have a little marketplace um so i'm gonna sit down
and uh and have some food we're gonna
go get some petrol so i don't run out of gas on the trail
and then and head it up we got 113 miles
of trail to do today right after gas let's get it done all right time
to fill up the gas i can't
keep up with these big GS gas tanks
so i'm gonna fill up barry's gonna fill up and uh adam on his
1250 GS can go for like nine more days
but let's get some gas we're gonna be back on trail and then
start the rest of our day looks like the rain may part
but i think we're driving right into it guys
let's get going we are officially back on dirt
and gravel from getting gas it's nice to be back on
off of the tarmac i should say
however at lunch we saw another group of uh motorcyclists which
is pretty darn cool doing
the uh where we're going here mountain lake i'm going left uh doing the
uh bdr route as well from damascus to uh
to new york let's switch this out absolutely
stunning man all these ferns
and everything somewhere back
in here is the uh the appalachian
trail it's about a five mile side hike from the mountain lodge
so not many too too many hikers
come out here all of that in the morning finding gas getting all
that done we're about 10 miles in
so we got about 100 miles left to go up
to the beautiful city i'm guessing of warm springs not
Hot Springs, Warm Springs, Virginia. Sun is shining, got some dark clouds
so i presume we'll get some
some rain again today but right now it looks good look
at how green this is man get some rainfall
in the Appalachians and it just goes crazy let's
see what fun we can get in we got a little view
maybe here i see how they
are so not bad little peekaboo view
getting down into a little bit of
single track or i shouldn't say single excuse me double track kind
of tied in and some outrageously
tight switchbacks we're coming down pretty aggressively
on this mountain right here here is
one of them farther we get down you can see just
the unbelievably thick vegetation and like i'm
sure these aren't coming out i'll see if there's a coming on camera
but like my 26 chipmunk in the
last like half mile oh this is cool like that
closed in feeling really loose track barry and
i've been talking unlike some
of the other trails we've done the TransAmerica Trail the Georgia Traverse
some on Mount 500 a few of those others
um at least early in this trail uh there's just not as
many uh primitive campgrounds there
are some Forest Service uh campgrounds those type of more
established no water no power just primitive
but Forest Service so trying to take a look at those
right now i am just taking
this in we got i really can't see it too much but we've got a creek on
this side got the uh cliff coming down there it
is thick in here there's so much moisture i keep
kind of switching back
and forth yeah there's definitely a beautiful creek over there
dude that is steep too way
up there surfaces today have
been better the riding um conditions
have been better and couldn't believe other than packing up
in the rain um in the beginning of the
day like there's it's been nice
the clouds don't look nice they're sitting there laughing at us but
no rain these surfaces are nice a little loose rock here
and there but not much you can do about
that we're about a third of the way almost done
with the day it's been gorgeous i'm hoping we stay
on some more kind of two track
or thin stuff here all right i'm back off just a little bit barry see
if i can get some uh adam headlights not much
straight roads here we don't have the ear pieces
connected for Adam yet out here um so i'm just gonna kind
of slow down see if i can see him this
would be a good spot oh
was that headlights okay i see them
we're good look at those clouds is this
actually one adventure that uh we are going to beat out mother nature
and not get drowned
that would be pretty rare for me
those do not look good they're all around us
i horse these man i like
that that is really neat these old
houses out here are just freaking
phenomenal phenomenon phenomenon yeah are awesome let's go
that way they're awesome yeah for the
viking ships
to come in that's
why they built
that lighthouse
and this time
i'm officially
in second
for this for the thick gravel ain't gonna give
me this time not today oh we push past 50
so we are
nearly halfway there we got
130. making some headway
the interesting
interesting part of today
once again will be uh where is home
for the night we kind of make that up uh as we go
doesn't take too much to make us happy yeah
this is nice straightaway to pause
for station identification make sure Adam is safe
and sound behind us we're
gonna keep going how this roads
been fun it looks like we might be turning off it
not too long but I hope it stays there I'll catch back up
with you in a little
bit hopefully for the first
time in two days they're
actually open for us to eat
because that's uh has
been bad. Are y'all eating or just drinking?
When you're ready, just say Catherine.
Thank you.
Hi, Freya.
Man, these mountain town pubs are amazing.
So damn good.
The wings were killer.
We'll get back on the bikes here in a little bit and hit the trail.
Freya.
Bumper.
Pretty bumper.
How are ya?
Yeah.
You like being on the motorcycle, Freya?
Huh?
You ready?
Every time we hop off the bikes,
we get to run around, throw the ball out there.
Alright.
Time to get back after it.
um and for once we're not flying by the seat
of our pants it looks like we're going to stay
in Warm Springs at the end of section two
our 113 mile section of the MA BDR today uh we're going to
the Warm Springs Inn and Tavern
so hopefully this ends in a craft beer but we're getting ready to
get back on trail well it did not take long we
just got out of the restaurant a couple roads
through town uh and literally like a mile mile
and a half through some residential area and we
our own gravel loose pack surface just got uh crush
and run everyone call that's cool the
waterfall there if you see it it's
a pretty good surface can make some miles up on it as long as
it doesn't get too crazy in the corners trying
to keep this all dry we got our home for the night
as i mentioned Warm Springs Inn Adam behind us there some
of this really soft on that bigger bike
um 1250 soft crush and run rock around corners
and stuff this is nemesis this is his first trip
out he's getting used to it i know when barry
and me start coming out here um trying to figure out
mileage and everything
and speeds it was always something a little different should be i think
our last leg i think we have a total i want to say
of 27 to 30 miles left uh then we should
pull into Warm Springs, is it just me
or every time i say Warm Springs i want to say Hot Springs
uh we have one in North Carolina
and actually i think there's one right here as well in virginia
but anyway hit warm springs about 30 miles hopefully it looks all like
this it has been
like i keep saying man i'm just a broken record it's
been a great day weather was good ride was good
i'm a little heartbroken about tub rub road
um but that's all good it happens let's see uh what
type of little pothole there what type
of adventures we can get on this last little bit
enjoy myself before we pull into town
and this has just
been a great great day hey man i'll tell
you what uh i tell a lot of people what huh i tell
you what that uh that 1250 GSA no that's too much
wind even at low miles an hour that's too much wind
that 1250 GSA um with the bigger engine in
it um you know he's got it all kitted out
but that thing makes Barry's 850 just look small which is
crazy it uh dwarfs this thing it's uh makes it
look like i'm riding a little mini bike that thing
is just a beast i tried to sit on it um because i can how
do i say not flat foot on Barry's 850
but i can uh flat front of the foot you know
so i'm comfortable riding his um not really in crazy
conditions but uh everyday riding
and something like this at 1250 i wouldn't uh other than just
on a road um unpacked i just wouldn't want
to ride it uh at uh roughly five nine i don't know
Adam's definitely taller than me
but i know like Jocelyn Snow, i mean the famous rider, she's
extremely skilled, all these numbers
are probably wrong, you can fact check me, but i think right
through the middle of the pothole, i think she's five two
um extremely talented adventure rider
even does teaching out west
but she's riding a 1250 GSA I mean it's just so what's my excuse but
not for me something i can control he
is just doing amazing i'll have
to get the name of that
uh guy who makes those uh dog carriers dude they're built like
a brick house they are amazing
i got these properties out
here very to the right dude
that's freaking gorgeous yeah
that's amazing
i think we've officially hopped off the uh the gravel
for the last time today which is always uh
a little sad to see we should be in i believe
if we're going the right direction Warm Springs
Virginia in just a little bit we're looking
for the Warm Springs Inn I believe and uh they have
a tavern there so i'm hoping they got
a cold beer can't see it right now with the tarmac and
everything canopy on the top
but right around us all here we're still in the Appalachians with a
ton of firewood should be a cool little spot get
a little work done tonight get a few things
completed after
that beer
of course well
welcome to city
of warm springs
and warm springs
in which
i think it just said like some really
crazy old second time we tried
to park in handicap today
warm springs in 1796 i didn't want to say
that wrong um this is crazy these old springs are
obviously where people lived
and everything have to see if i can find out some history
let's get unpacked and get in hey freya how you
doing yeah what a beautiful day that was a ton
of fun i am looking forward to getting out
of these wet boots i don't know how i'll get them
dry and these wet socks oh man day two 230 113 miles
into warm springs where the warm springs
in is complete of uh damascus virginia to new york
the MABDR section two guys i'll wrap it up
here i appreciate you coming along that was a ton
of fun good day thank you mother nature for not
raining on us i'll put a little video up here
so you can check out day one as well and a little
crazy um jeep trail i did with the bike you haven't seen
that it's a ton of fun have a
fantastic night don't forget to like comment
and subscribe and we'll see on the next adventure
good morning from Warm Springs Virginia got
the bikes behind us as a day three of Damascus
Virginia to New York adventure awesome time
on the MABDR we're gonna get finished packed up
hit the dirt got some crazy water crossings
and uh good windy roads up in the mountains for uh
round three let's hit the road guys all right
so here is the plan we're going to get some gas get
on the road but 171 today 171 miles up
the moores field i'm going to use my rototanks for the first
time i think get some to-go gas keep up
with these gs tanks we're uh with the three of us not really
the most aggressive i guess in the morning we usually do well
but it's 10 o'clock there if
you can see already so we'll be gas is just down the road
and we'll be on the trail probably by
about 10 20 hopefully by 10 30
and we'll hit some miles from there it's gonna be a great day
i'm excited it's possible water crossings
and some craziness guys but uh i'll bring you back
in when we are set ready for day three adventure well all right
no more than about a mile away
from the hotel the Himalayan was cutting out
or cutting off losing power pretty strong
seemed like a possible electronic issue
or maybe fuel supply issue point barry and i are kind of
just inspecting everything to see
if we can figure out what's going on is not looking good i'm not
sure it happened once i get up
to speed it just chugs uh cuts out comes in cuts out comes in
turns itself off can start it right back up
but again it turns itself off um let's figure out
what the hell is going on we're gonna tighten
the chain see if we can figure out what's going on
here i'm not sure what exactly
is happening here i felt some deceleration some some chugging along
uh chain's definitely loose i got something
dripping i don't think it's oil why don't we
get this tightened up and we'll
be back all right we're back within specs gonna put the tools away
engine light turned off but i'm definitely
a little low on oil we're getting gas here in a
second grab some oil check with you guys in a second all right chain
and everything's back on
we're gonna see hopefully it rides fine under under pressure down
the road gas station right
down the road i need a little oil but cross your fingers
and hopefully we make there and we're all
good long day today perfect day for me to break down all right
so the first time the Himalayan's
being towed we've got this here wrapped around
the neck within the wires there so it skips all
the wires we're going to come out to like
a towing paracord like a real nice paracord we'll see how
this goes see if we uh can find
a Royal Enfield dealer anyway around here not a good day it's
been driving so good since i replaced the filter i'll pop
a little video up here in the end card
I'm not sure what this is all about
but all right well this is my life right now
got Barry pulling me down to a gas station
not far ahead of us not the day I wanted to start
not the way I wanted to start day three I
do not know what's going on seems like the engine might
be losing gas I'm gonna just kind of come
to a stop oh I'm not tight at all hang on hang on hang
on hang on all right let's let's stop
right here and then I'm gonna run up
on it all right that
gas station came up a little quicker than i thought all right try
to make the best out of
bad day we're gonna see if we can find
a motorcycle shop uh ironically it is a holiday season right
now holiday weekend um if we can find somebody
to take a look at it we'll go from there if not
gotta probably get my trailer up here
and tow this damn thing home let's see what we can do
we're at a gas station now at least we're off the road
which is nice for us some curvy roads
tight corners there
and uh can't believe this happened on the holiday weekend or at all i'm
not really sure it's just
when I get up to speed top of first gear before
shifting it cuts out like everything
is lost engine is running but this is
drops down like compression is lost
and then come back up about four or five of
those the engine turns itself off they
can start right back up let's find out
what's going on
