AI GeneratedThe Buffalo Bills are dealing with the aftermath of two spitting incidents involving players during a game against the Raiders. While C.J. Gardner-Johnson's one-game suspension for spitting at Brock Bowers was upheld, Sam Franklin Jr. successfully appealed his suspension, though he still faces a fine for unsportsmanlike conduct.
This keeps getting crazier for the Buffalo Bills
as we finally have a conclusion to this
whole entire spitting saga.
There's been multiple suspensions and appeals and fines,
but we finally have our answer
as to who is and isn't playing next week against the Baltimore Ravens.
So today we'll be taking a look at the timeline
of this entire spitting saga from the start
of what happened to what we know right now.
And we'll be talking about if there is a discipline problem
for Joe Brady and the Buffalo Bills.
So welcome everybody to Bills Digest.

And yes, this is the bye week. It's supposed to be quiet.
There's not supposed to be much going on,
but that is not the case up in the Bills facility this week
because they've been dealing with this spitting situation
that all stems from last Sunday against the Raiders
when C.J. Garner-Johnson went out there and spat towards Brock Bowers.
He was ejected immediately, ending his game,
missed the entire second half, and Bills fans
were not very happy with C.J. Garner-Johnson for this.
I made a video about it the other day.
We talked about it.
You guys were very upset.
Some of you guys wanted him cut from the team.
We talked about all of that, but Joe Brady went out, defended his guy.
He said that C.J. Garner-Johnson is a Buffalo Bill for the year.
That is not going to change.
And to Johnson's credit, Gardner Johnson's credit,
he did come out and apologize for what he did after the game.
He says he's got to be a better player. He's got to be a better vet.
He let his emotions get above him and he hurt the team,
which, yes, it's good to see him apologize.
But this is very stock standard stuff that you would expect
to see from somebody in this situation.
And then, of course, one day after,
the NFL came out and suspended C.J. Garner-Johnson
with a one-game suspension against the Baltimore Ravens.
And we thought, okay, that is expected, and oh well, what can you do?
It makes sense. All we can do is move on.
But little did we know,
that was only the start of this conversation and not the end.
And we will talk about all
of what happened afterwards in just a second.
But first, I got to let you guys know today's video
is sponsored by Kalshi.
And on Kalshi, you are trading directly against other users,
not the house, like traditional sportsbooks.
You're buying yes or no contracts on the outcome
of events across sports, politics, or even weather.
For example, right now on Kalshi, here is what I am looking at.
This is the AFC race to represent
the AFC in the Super Bowl this year.
And I'm feeling good about the Bills right now
because the Patriots' loss last night to the Bears
really boosts the Bills' chances of winning the AFC East.
And I think if the Bills want to make the Super Bowl,
the road to the Super Bowl has to go through Buffalo.
And the first step to doing that is winning your division,
which they are in a very good spot to do so now.
So, of course, I'm rolling with the Buffalo Bills here.
And it is only a 22% chance on Kalshi right now,
which is pretty crazy if you ask me.
So if you place just $25,
you can win $112 in return if the Bills do indeed represent
the AFC in the Super Bowl this year.
So if you are interested in trying out Kalshi,
you can use the link in the description, trade
$25 with Code Digest NFL and get $55 added to your account instantly.
Thank you once again to
Kalshi for sponsoring today's video.
And like I said, this C.J. Garner-Johnson suspension was
only the start of what was to come
because the very next day it was announced that Sam Franklin
Jr. was also receiving a one-game suspension
for his actions in Sunday's game against the Raiders,
which was kind of surprising
because we didn't hear anything about this during the game.
Nobody knew anything about that.
It was kind of, it was a surprise.
It was a surprise to everybody.
But this is what the NFL said, that they,
that Sam Franklin Jr. was going to be suspended
one game in what was described as another spitting incident,
which two in one game,
that is absolutely insane.
But Franklin and his team, they denied the spitting,
and they said that they were going to appeal.
So what happened?
Where did the NFL see something
that they thought was a spitting incident here?
Well, this happened towards the very end of the game after
the Raiders scored a desperation touchdown
to get the game back to within one score with a minute
and 32 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter
after Las Vegas's successful extra point attempt
on that late touchdown they said that Franklin
Jr. spat at an opponent
and if you go back you watch the tape it looks like uh he's getting
into it with DJ Glaze of the Las Vegas Raiders
uh it looks like Glaze kind of puts a cheap hit
on Sam Franklin there and Sam Franklin stands up for himself
and they get into a little scuffle
and I don't know where the NFL saw a spit happen in here
but they said that Sam Franklin spat on
DJ Glaze and he was also going to be receiving
a one game suspension in addition to CJ Garner
Johnson which was kind of crazy
and Sam Franklin like I said they him and his team very much so
denied that this ever happened he said I it
was not a dirty play whatsoever he will always defend
himself and he's but he won't spit on anybody
and this was what's so shocking about this Sam
Franklin Jr. is one of the Bills captains they love him
on special teams they love his leadership
and what he brings in that special teams unit
so the fact that he was getting suspended for
spitting seemed so out of character
and it was really really surprising to Bills fans that he
was being accused of spitting on a guy CJ Garner Johnson sure there
is there is precedent precedent
even this season for CJ Garner Johnson for not being
the best uh behaved player on the football
field but Sam Franklin Jr that is not the case
so this was very very surprising for
the Bills so obviously with a suspension both
players appealed and they said we are appealing
this suspension. Let's look at the results of what happened.
Obviously, C.J. Garner Johnson's
suspension was upheld.
I don't think there's really any surprise there. He was caught on
camera doing it. He was ejected.
There was no question about it. Of course, C.J. Garner Johnson
was getting suspended, but this is the big one.
Sam Franklin Jr. did win his appeal, so he will
be available next week in week eight against the Raiders
which is very good for the Bills
and for Sam Franklin himself
because like I said this is not a guy that should be known
for spitting on an opponent that's not who he
is you can ask anyone in Buffalo that is not who Sam
Franklin Jr. is which is why it
was so uncharacteristic at the time however they are
still fining Sam Franklin for this uh they're
the base it's 15,000 that they're fining him for
unsportsmanlike conduct this seems
a little ridiculous if you ask me i think the NFL
definitely got it wrong here
and there really shouldn't be any punishment it looked just like
a routine uh mix up between two guys at the end of the game
but it is what it is at least he isn't
suspended for this mysterious spitting incident
but it does raise a question in Buffalo on if
Joe Brady and the leadership style that he
is bringing to the table is it effective for the
Bills because it's been I've seen it all over
Twitter he's being described as a fun uncle but
when the rubber hits the road is he going to be able
to discipline this football team and that is
the big question now he said that the discipline
of the football team has to improve and this is
in regards to CJ Garner-Johnson it sure as hell cannot happen
and he also said he talked to CJ
and that um that CJ knows that those actions can't happen
and that's not the standard we play with
and that has been addressed but actions speak louder than words
and we are only going to have
to see if this really does change throughout the rest of the season
because there is a ton of
season left there is a lot of time for things to change
but you can take it back all the way to
the Patriots loss when CJ Garner-Johnson was running his mouth
and Joe Brady said no I like
it I like it when they can talk
and get their frustrations out I didn't like it at the time I
I don't like it now,
but it remains to be seen how the Bills address this moving forward
because this extends to their on-field play as well.
The Bills are fifth in the league in net penalty yards.
That is absolutely unacceptable.
That is not going to help them win a Super Bowl,
especially when their defense can't get off the field as is.
They need to play as clean as they possibly can,
and that has not happened so far this year.
but this is where I want to turn it over
to you guys what do you think about this discipline in
Buffalo do the Bills have a discipline problem
with Joe Brady at the helm do you think yes this
needs to be fixed as soon as possible
or do you think no this is a one-off incident this is just
CJ Garner Johnson not thinking properly
and like Joe Brady said it has been addressed and it won't
be a problem going forward are you not worried about
this let me know down in the comments what
you guys think um where i'm gonna land
on this one i think that i think this does need to be
addressed but i don't think that this is a major problem down
the road i do think that this is
something that they can indeed right the ship
on and hopefully we look back at this in February
when we're holding a Lombardi and laughing about I remember
when CJ Gardner Johnson spit on a guy in
week seven or week six uh that was that was so long ago
and hopefully it's not a thing where
we look at this point and say man
this is where it all fell apart that remains to be seen for now
but keep it right here on Bills Digest we'll have
a ton of more content coming your way throughout
the bye week and of course leading
into that big week eight matchup against the Ravens so stay
tuned for that as always thanks for watching and of course go Bills
