Folks in Union Township have more than likely seen
these buildings popping up over the past few years.
The Centurion Union Center.
Well, the latest addition has now been approved
by the township's planning board.
Set to go here at the intersection of Stuyvesant and Morris Avenues.
According to the developer's landmark,
it'll be a six-story building that will have 113 rental residences,
10,000 square feet of first-floor retail,
and the big part, a 24,000-square-foot public plaza
that will have outdoor dining and space for community events.
The developers say it's part of their larger effort
to revitalize this area here,
bringing new business and infrastructure,
a point some folks here certainly agree with.
I think that will help bring in more exposure towards
these restaurants and stuff.
And as long as they make it affordable, I don't see why not.
The businesses around here get more clientele, looks better.
So I guess, you know, it's up to date,
you know, makes the place up to date, cleaner.
but it's not an opinion shared by everyone.
Others concerned about the rapid development
bringing even more traffic
and less parking to the already crowded area.
For them to build another building,
it creates more of a havoc for people to park
as far as the community.
It benefits more to the realtors or the people that's
building as opposed to the community.
A big question here, what will happen to the businesses
on this corner already? We reached out to the town
and have not heard back, but the developers
confirmed to us that the buildings at least will be torn down.
