Planet Ocean _ The Living Engine That Moves Our Blue World

#PlanetOcean #Ocean #OceanDocumentary
Planet Ocean is a calm 4K documentary that follows the whole ocean as one living system. From space it looks like a still blue basin, yet it carries heat from the equator to the poles, releases about half of the oxygen we breathe and moves animals across entire hemispheres. Only about a quarter of its floor has been mapped in detail.
Water that looks calm works like the engine of a planet, and most animals in the deep make their own light. So what happens to a system this large when it begins to warm? Stay with us and find out.
In this film:
🌊 The ocean engine: the Gulf Stream carries around 30 sverdrups, the Antarctic Circumpolar Current about 137, and the Amazon less than a quarter of one.
🪸 Hidden cities: coral reefs cover under 1% of the seafloor yet shelter about a quarter of known marine species, and the Lost City rises close to 200 feet.
✨ Light in the dark: in the twilight zone, about three quarters of the animals filmed off Monterey could glow.
🧊 Polar seas: Antarctic krill feed whales, seals and penguins, and a camera under the Filchner Ice Shelf found about 60 million icefish nests.
🐋 Giants in motion: humpbacks swim about 5,200 miles to breed, and one leatherback turtle crossed the Pacific and back over 647 days.
🌍 The deep past: asteroids may have brought much of our water, and Snowball Earth froze the planet at least twice.
⚠️ The ocean under pressure: it has absorbed more than 90% of the extra heat trapped by greenhouse gases, and the fourth bleaching event touched about 84% of the world's reefs.
💙 The blue legacy: at Cabo Pulmo, fish weight grew by more than 460% in about ten years once the reef was protected.
From the engine of the currents to the pressure of a warming planet, this film shows an ocean that has survived ice, fire and mass extinction, and can still recover when it is given room.
