Welcome to Good Night LA. I'm Susan Hirasuna.
Our top story, king tides are set to hit local
beaches tomorrow, bringing water levels up to eight feet or higher.
Crews tonight are working
urgently along the coast,
moving thousands of tons of sand to protect homes and seawalls from
possible damage. Fox 7's Christy Fajardo is live
in Malibu with the latest for us. Christy.
Susan, crews all along the Southern California coast have
been working hard here in Malibu.
they brought in boulders
and are making sandbags available to people in low-lying areas. Now the
king tides were predicted.
They are seasonal and they are not expected to bring the giant swells
that we have seen in recent weeks.
Nonetheless, they could raise the water level enough to cause
coastal flooding. I'm shocked. I've been coming here for years.
Dan the Sandman says these days
he has less material to work with at Westward Beach in Malibu.
I came here this morning and
half the beach is gone.
Now, meteorologists warn starting Sunday,
the king tides could breach sea walls and
erode away even more beach.
That's why LA County lifeguards are issuing a warning.
If there's really large surf and you wanna come down to the beach and
maybe spectate and you feel like you wanna go watch from the rocks or
right on the water's edge, would like
to inform you that might not be the most
wise thing to do.
The king tides, which could reach eight feet,
come on the heels of back-to-back storm surges,
which battered away at the Long Beach Peninsula,
leaving eight homes red-tagged.
Reclaiming the beach.
The city says it's now dredging sand from a nearby canal
and moving 20,000 to 30,000 cubic yards a day
to build up a protective berm and widen the beach.
Sit back and watch and hope. I feel bad.
I feel bad for these property owners.
Areas like the Long Beach Peninsula
and the Balboa Peninsula down in Newport,
they're really low lying and they're surrounded
by water they have low elevation behind them as well
so they're a little bit more at risk that's why
in newport beach it's more of the same
sandbags and sand walls separate homes
and the ocean homeowners along the coast watching the
sunset not sure if sunrise will look the same
and a coastal flood advisory takes effect starting at
5 a.m. tomorrow and lasts all the way through Thursday
and more king tides are expected
next month. Live in Malibu, Christy Fajardo, Fox 11 News.
Los Angeles police are investigating an
officer-involved shooting and a related patrol
car crash in South L.A. following a pursuit Friday
night. Authorities say an officer fired
a weapon after suspects fled near 96th and Central but no
one was hit by gunfire.
Two suspects were taken into custody and three firearms were recovered
at the scene.
One person died in a fiery crash near LAX this morning.
Police say a car hit a
freeway support at West Imperial Highway
and Hughes in Westchester before bursting into flames.
Officials say the victim was found in the burned
car but hasn't been identified.
Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the crash.
Early in-person voting
kicked off today in L.A. County for the November 3rd elections.
There are 123 polling places open
now, with more to open next weekend.
California's same-day voter registration is drawing attention,
fueling debates over I.D. requirements.
Here's Fox 11's Glenn Walker in North Hollywood.
As the state of California battles
the Justice Department over voter I.D. and mail-in ballots,
this vote center in North Hollywood opened today.
We talked to several of the voters,
including one who told me that he was able to actually register
and vote on the same day.
I just happened to be driving by and saw it was open.
Yeah.
And I was like, you know, I never got
my mail ballot, so I may as well just do it.
You never got your mail ballot.
I think I let my registration lapse.
Yeah.
So, it happens.
Despite that happening, Blackman was able to vote here
at the Amelia Earhart Regional Library in North Hollywood.
You can register day of, yay for California.
You fill out a form and you put your ballot in and then they go
and verify, make sure you haven't voted other places.
It's a nice little quick process, keeps things organized.
But when Robert Blackman re-registered to vote today,
proof of ID was not required.
That is one of the arguments behind a big issue on the ballot,
Proposition 39, requiring voters to show ID at the polls before voting.
I think it's mandatory. It should be.
Because you never know who's going to vote,
or you don't know how many times they're going to vote.
So I prefer showing my identification.
We don't need it. This is a very safe state.
Nobody's voting who shouldn't be voting.
But five days ago, 28 foreign nationals
were arrested here in California for voter fraud.
At least eight of these defendants allegedly
voted more than once illegally, including some
in the 2026 primary. This Department of Justice will
not look the other way while non-citizens
vote. Today, as vote centers open,
the DOJ took that argument against California to the Ninth
Circuit Court of Appeals,
which heard an emergency request involving those roughly 20,000 mail-in
ballots the feds suspect were mailed
to non-citizens i just wish that people would start
to look around and see exactly what's going on in this state
and start to use common sense if they
had any of those concerns they should have
been handled well beforehand not to mention i work in
it you're not going to just hand me a thumb drive
and tell me to plug it in somewhere like i'm going
to make sure that thing is vetted.
This is all a Trump thing, okay? To make it harder for people
to vote. I wouldn't be able to just drop off my ballot.
You gotta show ID, you have to show the
last four digits of your social security number.
There's no reason for that. So tomorrow, the
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear
the oral arguments about voter ID and mail-in ballots
in the case of the USA versus the state of California.
Meantime, these vote centers will remain open between now
and Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd.

With 10 days left before Election Day, L.A. Mayor Karen Bass hit
the campaign trail in the San Fernando Valley.
She rallied Latino supporters in Panorama City
and took aim at her opponent, Councilmember Nithya Raman.
Bass appeared to reference a Studio City fire
in August tied to homeless encampments.
The abandoned property sits in Rahman's district.
If you can't take care of the very people you represent
in your council district,
then how on earth are you going to take care of the people in the city?
Rahman countered, saying she reported the problem
to Mayor Bass's office months earlier,
but no action was taken.
Here's Bass's response.
Rahman could have contacted her personally.
Also in the 818 today,
L.A. mayoral candidate Nithya Rahman rallied supporters in Sylmar.
She says ice raids
and many of the city's problems got worse under Mayor Bass.
The rising cost of housing,
the rising cost of all essentials, life is tough here.
Residents here have told me that they expect
a city that works as hard as they do
to fix the streets and to deliver the essentials.
A new California post poll shows Raman leading Bass
by 8 percentage points among likely voters.
Raman has 47% support. Bass is at 39.
Hollywood Forever Cemetery came alive
at its 27th annual Dia de los Muertos celebration.
Billed as the largest event of its kind in the U.S., it draws thousands
to honor ancestral roots through music, art, and storytelling.
This year's theme, All Under One Sky,
highlights shared hope across cultures.
Rooted in Mesoamerican traditions, the celebration transforms
the cemetery into a vibrant space connecting the living and the dead.
We'll be right back.
No winner tonight for the Powerball jackpot,
so Monday's jackpot jumps to $687 million.
Here are tonight's numbers. 4, 5, 15, 19, 55.
The Powerball number is 19.
Some nights, a single father and his 12-year-old daughter call
a tent on the streets of Los Angeles' home.
Despite millions poured into fighting the crisis,
he says the system is giving him the runaround.
Tonight, he's demanding answers and a real roof over their heads.
Gina Silva with a story you'll see only on Fox 11.
This is a young father who finds himself in need of help.
He says he's been begging for assistance for months,
but he's still on the streets.
The county tells me to talk to the city.
The city tells me to talk to the county.
LASA tells me to talk to the mayor's office.
The people in the city council mayor's office tell me to talk to LASA.
Milagro Jones and his 12-year-old daughter are homeless.
He says he's been consistently asking
for help since February of this year.
And all he gets is the runaround.
I'm just asking for them to give me interim housing,
which is another word for shelter,
so that I can stabilize my situation and get back on my feet.
Oh, this is crazy.
It's coming down right now.
Milagro has been documenting his journey on social media.
I said, you bogus.
Just going to leave us out here in the rain.
He's been attending meetings to spread awareness about
his situation and ask for help.
When I go to the city, when I go to the county,
when I go to the Family Source Center, St. Joseph,
when I go to any place throughout the city to request services,
I'm told there are no services, they don't exist,
they're not available, and I call 2-1-1.
Milagro says he's called that number
and has been unable to get any assistance.
And that's raising questions about how Los Angeles
is spending the money allocated to fight homelessness.
The money is there, it's just the willpower
is not there to actually help us.
According to the L.A. City Comptroller's Office,
the city's homelessness budget
for the current 2026-2027 fiscal year is about $750 million.
And L.A. County has approved another $843 million
for its homelessness services and housing department.
I don't think it's right for me to be treated like this.
I'm being treated like I'm not even a human being.
I'm being treated like I don't even matter.
There are 2,000 people that died on the streets
of Los Angeles homeless last year.
I don't want to be another one of the people
that die out here on the streets.
LASA issued the following statement.
While privacy regulations prevent us
from discussing the specifics of individual cases
without written authorization,
site assessments and bed admissions are administered directly by
our contracted provider partners
who are best positioned to speak to why placements do or
do not occur after a referral.
LASA actively coordinates across the provider network to resolve
referral bottlenecks
and transition unhoused families indoors as rapidly as possible. As for
Milagro, he is actively looking for a job.
He does have a college degree. I'm Gina Silva, Fox 11 News.
Good Night LA Weather is sponsored
by the law offices of Larry H. Parker.
Well, we're starting off with a live look here down at the Queen Mary.
Some calm conditions out in the Long Beach area.
And it's been that way for the start of our weekend
and does continue through tomorrow for some of us.
We do have some impacts across the coast
that we'll be breaking down for you this evening.
Right now, we do have dry conditions and we're expecting
to get those mostly clear skies through most of our evening.
Now, as we roll through the rest of this weekend, we can expect that,
yes, those warm and dry conditions will continue for us.
We are looking at the potential for coastal flooding.
That risk with our alerts will go into effect tomorrow
and stick around through much of next week.
Speaking of next week, we're also tracking the potential
for a Halloween storm that may roll through,
impacting some of our trick-or-treating hours.
Right now, though, on our synoptic map, we do have that low
that did bring in some disruptive weather yesterday.
We can see it has shifted out to the east of us,
leaving us here in Southern California, again,
with beautiful skies earlier throughout the evening.
We'll continue that way into our overnight hours as well.
I got us into tomorrow morning where we are still tracking dry
and yet beautiful conditions, plenty of sunshine out there.
We are going to roll over into the start
of next week like that for our inland sections as well.
brings me to our weather headlines it's going
to be this coastal flood activity now you'll see in
the lighter green color we have an advisory
this is going to include some of our LA County beaches
and we'll stretch into portions of Ventura County
as well where we're looking at that minor to
moderate risk and then we shift down to the south
this is going to include portions of Orange County
and areas south of where we do have
that coastal flood warning in place this one is going to be
more significant than our advisory.
We're also tracking a more significant risk for some of that
coastal flood activity. A lot of this to do with our king tide cycles.
We're right on top for our
king tide season where during our morning high tides,
we could see those levels reach up to
eight feet at times. Could lead to the flooding of parking lots,
roads, homes, and of course that
beach erosion that we did experience earlier in the season.
Temperatures right now in the 60s and
the 70s winds moving kind of calm out there five
to about 10 miles per hour tonight we'll be under
temps closer to their normal 50s as well
as the 60s tomorrow LA is expected to top off with our
temperatures in the upper 70s
and here's a look at that seven day forecast magic number is 77
degrees tomorrow we do get a nice little warm start to the week
but as we do again shift into
the end of the week we are looking at a potential chance
for some of that storm activity rolling in
right around the Halloween holiday.
We're going to go ahead and send things over to Gerard
with a look at sports.
Superstar, thank you. Good evening. Both the Bruins and Trojans
played major Big Ten games today with
very different outcomes. Highlights and postgame
are on the way, but first, tonight's
Pechanga Sports poll question. What are you expecting
in USC's next
game next week hosting Ohio
State? Virtually a must win
for Lincoln Riley. Trojans
get blown out. Trojans win a thriller.
This one could go either way.

welcome back USC coach Lincoln Riley looking
to match his best start ever at SC back in 2022
Riley's Trojans started the year seven
and one a season that ended up with a trip to the Cotton
Bowl today a Big 10 matchup against the Wisconsin Badgers
at the always tough Camp Randall Stadium
Former Trojan Caleb Williams on the sideline,
handing some pointers to Jaden Maiava.
Second quarter, SC trailing three.
Zay Maiava finds Taniela Tupu for the four-yard touchdown.
Trojans on top, 7-3, but it would be a brief lead.
Later in the quarter, Badger Brian Jackson fighting
to get into the end zone from five yards out.
Wisconsin back in front, 10-7.
Second half on fourth and two for the Badgers,
and Colton Joseph connects with Chris Brooks Jr. for the touchdown.
Suddenly, Wisconsin in front, 17-7.
To the fourth quarter, we go. USC trying to get anything going.
Maya va sacked five times in this one with a negative 57 yards rushing.
USC gets blown out 24-7.
The final, here's Riley on this ugly finish in Wisconsin.
We did the things that you can't do in the road.
We lost turnover battle, lost rushing battle.
We had some big penalties at times that obviously were, you know,
really hindered us on all sides of the ball.
So just not good enough.
I take responsibility for it.
Ninth-ranked UCLA hosting Michigan State at the Rose Bowl.
Second quarter, Bruins down 7-0.
Second and goal, Javion Thomas up the middle for the 7-yard touchdown.
Bruins catch them at 7 apiece.
Later in the quarter, Cade Kaufman throwing outside.
It is intercepted by Donovan Paylott, who's headed the other way.
He's taken down inside the red zone.
A return of 67 yards.
Bruins in business.
UCLA's Dark Knight, Wayne Knight, then punches it home from a yard out.
His seventh straight game with a rushing TD.
Bruins in front, 14-7.
Opening possession of the second half for UCLA, Ty Dieffenbach.
Down the middle, deep for Brian Rhodes Jr.
A beautiful 63-yard touchdown hookup.
Bruins up 21-7.
They roll 28-10 the final.
And with the number two, BYU Cougars, number seven, Ole Miss Rebels,
and number eight, Texas Longhorns,
or pardon me, Texas Tech Red Raiders losing,
the Bruins poised to move up once again in the rankings uh seven
and oh obviously a big deal
um but you know and and that first half was just
not our type of football not really how we want
to play the game the two fumbles for them to have a hundred
and some yards of returns on those two
but what a great job by the defense to step up
and get a stop on one and then Donnie with the
interception and flip the field right back again
um that was that was a big time deal that's 14
points Milwaukee Brewers in the driver's seat after beating
the Tampa Bay Rays in game two of
the World Series tonight at American Family Field
but the way the game got started looked like the
Rays were going to go back to Tampa with a split
in hand first inning Rays already up two zip Liam
Hicks taking Logan Henderson downtown
for a two-run job his first of the postseason and just
like that's a four nothing game Brewers chip away
though at that lead trailing four two in the fourth
David Hamilton, ground ball, Jonathan Aranda cannot make the play.
Hamilton beats the flip, the first Cooper Pratt scores.
Brewers cut the deficit to just the run.
Sixth frame, Milwaukee South, Frelick taking Ian Seymour deep.
That's a solo effort.
Frelick tying the game with one swing.
4-4 game.
Very next inning, one on for Pratt.
Lines one off Kevin Kelly.
That's a single to right.
Bryce Turang trots home,
and Milwaukee scored five unanswered for the 5-4 lead.
Ninth inning, Allen Ashby in to close it out.
Tying run on third, Yandy Diaz checking his swing.
Not good enough.
James Hoy says he went around.
Brewers win back, win the comeback 5-4, and take a 2-0 series lead.
Series now shifting to Tampa for games 3, 4, and 5.
You can catch game 3 right here on Fox 11 on Monday night.
Pre-game coverage begins at 4 with first pitch set just
a little bit after 5 o'clock.
And stick around after the game
for full reaction and post-game analysis
on another World Series edition of SportsWrap.
To the ice, Ducks and Philly taking on the Flyers.
Third period, tied at three apiece.
Tristan Lanoue shooting from just outside the circle.
He scores his first of the year, and the Ducks take a 4-3 lead.
Later in the period, Anaheim on the power play.
Porter Martone shooting.
Beckett Seneca there for the tip-in goal, his sixth of the season.
Ducks go on to win this one 5-4.
Kings lost in Jersey, by the way, 3-1 to the Devils.
And finally, the results to tonight's Pechanga Sports poll question.
What are you expecting from USC next week
at the Coliseum as they host Ohio State?
A USC blowout or USC winning in a thriller?
And not expecting good things for the Trojans.
63% believe they're going to get blown out.
