18-year-old is dead and investigators
are connecting two different crime scenes across
two different cities. Good evening, I'm Casey Stegall.
Police say one victim was shot overnight
at an apartment complex in Arlington there on East Park Road Drive.
Then in a bizarre twist,
detectives say the teen drove himself
to a Fort Worth gas station miles away,
then died in his vehicle.
Fox 4's Vanya Castillo has more tonight on the search for a shooter.
A gunshot victim drove from Arlington to a gas station in Fort Worth,
and now it's raising questions among community members.
An 18-year-old shot in Arlington was found dead
at a gas station 12 miles away in Fort Worth,
but what happened between those two places is still unknown.
I can only imagine what they were going through
and what was happening at the time.
According to Arlington police, at about 2.54 Sunday morning,
someone reported hearing gunshots
at the Arlington Park Apartments on East Park Road Drive.
Police arrived but didn't find a victim,
suspect, or even any evidence of a shooting.
About 30 minutes later, Fort Worth police found an 18-year-old man
with gunshot wounds at a QuickTrip on Brentwood Steer Road.
He was pronounced dead there.
Like, you would just expect to come see that just
by just coming to just get gas or just get some ice.
I mean, we're losing so many young people either to death
or to prison, and it's just sad.
According to police, a witness who was with the victim said
that shooting happened back at the Arlington Park Apartments.
I mean, if they were hurt that bad,
I mean, I don't even know what to say.
I mean, you know, they could have died anywhere.
I mean, but all the way to Fort Worth to a gas station.
And it started here. That's crazy.
Because of that information, police went back to the apartment
and this time found several shell casings.
For one resident, the thought of gunfire so close
to his home has him rethinking if he wants to continue to live there.
If somebody, if they get into an argument or a fight over there
and the kids are playing here, one of these little kids might take
a bullet, you know, and that thing had nothing to do with it.
Now police tells they're still working to find out what exactly
happened to that 18-year-old and no arrests have been made.
