This is going to be a great week. Last year, we had it one day,
but this year we got it six days, but not just in one part of the city.
It's going to happen all around the city
because the mayor has a central theme, One Philly.
So we're going to include HBCU in the entire city, across the city.
So I'm excited. Listen, I can't wait for tomorrow.
What should the people expect?
I know there's a music component, faith component.
Please spell it out for us.
Well, tomorrow, listen, tomorrow it kicks off at five o'clock
at the Community College of Philadelphia as we honor 25 different
faith leaders who have done tremendous things throughout the city.
And we have given out one Lifetime Achievement Award
and that would go to the Reverend Louis William Bishop
for all that he has meant to our city.
And we're excited. You know, it's going to be phenomenal Tuesday night.
We got the high school showcase battle of the bands.
We got high school cheerleaders and community cheerleaders.
That's at West Philadelphia High School.
And those young people are excited about being there
because the winner from Tuesday night
gets to perform on Saturday for the main battle of the bands
and for the football game between
Deshaun and Michael Vick.
But listen, Wednesday night at the church.
That's phenomenal.
We have a whole, we have a list here too.

the whole entire city coming together under the
school district umbrella to make a One Philly Band
and then the most anticipated rematch that's the
Shawn Jackson and Del State and Michael Vick
and those Norfolk State Spartans it's going down
this weekend you don't want to be nowhere else
but at the link oh Willie i love i love your energy i
love your energy you know were you a preacher

You know she's an AKA, so she's excited.
But guess what?
We got some folk that's going to be here.

when we'll release the whole list i'm excited about it okay i'm
excited that you're coming back to join us
for a good day this um job fair and college and job
fair this is this is so important the kids need
to further their education there's so many kids
out there still looking for jobs can you give us
more information about first of all can anybody
show up for the job fair
and and what employers will be there can you just give us just a couple
of names anybody can come to the job fair there's
a link you need to register for it okay and that's
from two to six but the job fair is not just
for young people you got recent college graduates you
got parents looking for jobs we got uh all
of our city agents you've got a shop that's going to be
there you've got temple that's going
to be there uh you've got a lot of other major companies in
our area that are coming to recruit you got
burlington you know they just announced they
got all these jobs coming up they're going
to be there doing their talent recruitment team
is going to be there uh you have many major corporations
that are going to be there looking
for skilled talent or people that want to change
in life want to switch companies it's going to be
there's 125 companies representing a multiple facet
of different companies over 1200 positions
one that you can get screened for and invite you back for interview
or the other you can get hired
on the spot but all of these jobs can be obtained
in the next 30 days okay these are real jobs
these are real jobs companies actually hire
these are these are actually positions available
on friday we we asked we were very intentional
um the mayor was very intentional let me you know
she she she's speaking about access to economic opportunity
and so what better way to bring the
opportunity because this is more than just
the game uh this is about excellence this is about
culture but guess what what happens
when the game is over so here's an opportunity for those
for folks to get connected to a job
and or connected to a university to go to school next
year last year we had several kids that got accepted
on the spot you had to see their face
they lit up because they never imagined themselves going
to school many of them are in those
universities right now all right Willie Singletary
senior project manager for the city uh where can
people go to see the full schedule you can go
to our website it's on our on our page on our website
uh go to Ticketmaster look on the Lincoln University
or North State University get
your ticket they listen they don't sell
but we're gonna flash sale 25 that's all 25 and so it's going
to be a opportunity to engage encourage
and then on Saturday we know we have families and we know
the children want to go out
so we're going to have a trick-or-treat uh for one to three right
there on Pepsi Plaza for all those you gotta have
a ticket uh all of our vendors will be giving our
candy and we're gonna give our bags we're gonna have
a little dance contest with a couple DJs on
on the plaza for the kids for one to three you don't want
to miss it i'm telling it's gonna be
safe a good place kids under 13 can wear costumes
if you're under 13 you can bring it wear your
costumes we're going to have a contest
of the best costume the best uh the best dress the uh
dance contest it's going to be fun to start
your day with the battle of the bands at 11
uh halloween party at at one o'clock
and then the game at three o'clock and guess what this
has been a vision of mayor parker uh for several years to bring it
and she has been intentional
about what she's doing of bringing the entire city together
that's why we have temple participating
and Drexel participating, other schools,
because it's not just about HBCU,
it's about an entire city coming together
to celebrate HBCU, but not excluding anybody.
Amen.
All right, Willie.
Thank you for your time.
HBCU week, One Philly starts tomorrow, six days.
Thank you for your time, Willie.
We'll be back.
Thank you.
You keep doing what you're doing.
Your show's great.
Great show.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Appreciate it.
Bring some good love to the link.
I heard you talking about the link.
Maybe we can bring some good love and some good energy.
that things can turn around.
Yeah, I mean, y'all are coming through after the Cowboys game,
so maybe the next game.
But we're still wishing them the best tomorrow.
I'm not worried about it.
You know, when you look at the Eagles, you know,
every player are professionals.
And anybody can show up on that day.
You know, I'm praying for Jalen Hurts,
but I'm praying that all the ones that are stepping up, they step up.
This is their opportunity to shine.
And I just believe the Eagles organization are a great organization.
And they'll partner with us with this HBCU.
So I just believe, I'm praying that tomorrow they show up and show out.
All right.
Just like I'm sure
y'all will do as the HBCU week goes on in those two football games,
the Link and the Steppers and the Battle of the Bands,
everybody's going to show out for sure.
All right, Willie.
Absolutely.
Appreciate your time.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
God bless you.
Okay.
God bless you.
We'll be back.
