Debussy's Clair de lune on solo piano. Gentle, unhurried, and made for the quiet end of the day.

Clair de lune is the third movement of Debussy's Suite bergamasque. He began the suite around 1890 and revised it heavily before it was finally published in 1905. The movement was first called Promenade sentimentale. The title it carries now comes from Paul Verlaine's poem Clair de lune, the opening poem of his 1869 collection Fêtes galantes. Clair de lune simply means moonlight, and Gabriel Fauré had already set the same poem as a song in 1887.

More than a century later it is still one of the most loved pieces ever written for piano. It rarely raises its voice. The melody floats over soft, rippling chords and never hurries, and then it is gone.
