Donald Trump has ripped into former US President Barack Obama
in a fiery spray delivered to
reporters. Let me tell you in my opinion he's not smart at all
because the way he ran the country
only a stupid person would run the country like that.
A war of words has recently blown up between
Trump and Obama in relation to ongoing renovations to the White House.
Speaking at a rally in Ohio
Obama recently took a swipe at Donald Trump's renovation projects
which led to a fierce reply
from the current U.S. president Obama said Trump
and I quote seems very focused on home renovations
the former president ridiculed much
of the works President Trump has undertaken to redevelop the
White House Obama said there's gold everywhere what's up
with the gold before he continued to
declare Trump has got the White House looking
like Saddam Hussein opened a cheesecake factory
so when you go through all this the tally
of promises things have not worked out the way
we might have expected although I must say I did expect it
and and let's be honest does anybody
really think this guy in the White House right now
is spending all that time thinking about these
issues I I mean I I don't know if you've noticed
but he seems very focused on home renovations
he should be on HGTV guys building a ballroom
that's bigger than the White House it's paved
over the rose garden put a helicopter pad on the south lawn
and and there's gold everywhere what's
up with the gold everything more gold he's got
the White House looking like Saddam Hussein open
a cheesecake factory everywhere Donald Trump hit back
at Obama's taunts as he delivered a fiery
spray of his own the president said Obama was a quote stupid person
and not a smart guy further
response to Obama, who made fun
of the Cheesecake Factory compared to the White House and your
decoration? You know, I've taken care of the White House.
I fixed it with the finest artisans
in the world. We've re-skinned it.
It was in horrible shape. A lot of the ornaments and the
things that were originally built on the White House were missing
or damaged or gone for a long
time they were laying on the ground in some cases
and it was in terrible shape the exterior plaster
was broken cracked and the painting was terrible
and i've reskinned the building beautifully with
the highest most talented people anywhere
in the world you're not going to find more talent and the
white house looks beautiful
and guys like obama they would pass the front door they'd see the
broken masonry that see the broken uh
the beautiful pilasters that were all broken
for years they were broken and he wouldn't notice
because he doesn't notice that he doesn't notice
dirt and filth that hadn't been cleaned where
the walls hadn't been cleaned for years he doesn't
notice areas that haven't been painted
so it's very easy for me to do i do it very very simply
because it's my nature, you know, I'm a very clean person.
And the White House was in terrible shape.
The White House is now in the best shape
it's been since 1792, when it was built.
It's in beautiful shape.
You take a look at it, it looks beautiful.
And I'm proud to do it.
I do it with five minutes a day, 10 minutes a day.
I have the very talented people.
They work there.
Many of them are in Department of Interior.
They work there. They've done a fantastic job.
Trump continued to declare that Obama was a lousy president.
And you have to remember, the White House,
we have to explain that to Obama
because he doesn't understand it, because he's not a smart guy.
Let me tell you, in my opinion, he's not smart at all
because the way he ran the country,
only a stupid person would run the country like that.
But we have to explain to Obama
that the White House is a symbol of America
and it has to be maintained properly.
It has to be painted and the exterior plaster can't
be falling off the walls.
and the decorations
and ornaments around the windows that are magnificent
can't be on one side of the window and falling off on the other side.
So we took molds of the one side, and we put it on the other side,
and we did a beautiful job. Very little money spent.
It's not about money. It's about seeing.
Guys like Obama don't see it. You don't see dirt.
He doesn't see filth. He doesn't see broken ornaments on a building.
The White House to President Obama is a symbol of America.
It has to be clean.
The columns can't be broken.
The bricks can't be falling off from under the plaster.
And for you to say it's a cheesecake factory,
that just shows why you're a lousy president, right?
On Venezuela, Mr. President.
News24 host James Morrow criticized Obama's
comments regarding the White House.
Mr. Morrow said Obama is the guy whose presidential
library looks like some sort of Death Star
or secret police headquarters from beyond the Iron Curtain.
But Obama in this speech here, well,
he also took this weird swipe at President Trump's White House.
Well, this is the same guy whose presidential library, we'll show it
to you on the screen here, looks like some sort of, you know,
Death Star or secret police headquarters from behind the Iron Curtain.
Who is this guy to talk about design
or to attack the Cheesecake Factory, which is a chain restaurant that,
of course, he would never deign to go into because he's too fancy,
but that ordinary Americans love?
You know, James, it's funny you bring this up.
I actually was a law student at the University
of Chicago where Barack Obama taught constitutional law for 10 years.
And I actually lived about a stone's throw
for a year from where this library is going up.
And I can tell you that what was there prior to this monstrosity going
up was a heck of a lot better than what it will look like after this.
It is an utter eyesore to the entire Hyde Park, Chicago area.
By the way, it was dramatically over budget, took way longer time.
It was way more expensive.
It was one of the worst projects in modern Chicago history,
which frankly is saying a whole lot.
But, you know, I want to also zoom out a little bit here
because Barack Obama's man, I talk about a lot for many reasons.
I want to underscore an important point.
It is incredibly, incredibly rare to see someone like this,
10 years removed from the White House,
out on the campaign trail just trying to rile up the crowd
in the most partisan, demagogic fashion imaginable.
There's a long history and tradition in American politics
of presidents generally trying to appeal to the better of our angels
and therefore not politicking in this sort of crass fashion.
That's why Barack Obama became the first
U.S. president in 100 years, literally,
since Woodrow Wilson to not physically leave Washington, D.C.
He stayed in Calorama, a very upscale neighborhood in D.C., where he
was about a mile and a half, two miles from the Joe Biden White House.
Go figure. I mean, I think
that that was more than just symbolic proximity.
And this is a man who just fundamentally cannot give up his zeal,
his thirst for power.
But, you know, at the risk of punching slightly below the belt, James,
but I will say it anyway, you know, his wife, Michelle, has openly
complained about their marriage not being in the best of places.
Shouldn't he focus a little bit more on the home front
and things like that and not just trying to belittle
and sully the legacy of a man who should, again,
be appealing to her better angels as most ex-presidents have done?
I think that would be a good idea, frankly.
Yeah, well, I mean, look, I played a little while ago in the program,
grabs of Obama saying we should all put away the anger
and then telling people to stay angry.
So the man is a hypocrite, and I'm glad you mentioned him
in the same breath as Woodrow
Wilson, because people who watch me know
precisely what I think of that guy.
