HUGE CRYOVOLCANIC ERUPTION ON COMET 29P!

James Kaufman, World News Report today. Huge cryovolcanic eruption on Comet 29P. The British Astronomical Association is reporting a new outburst of cryovolcanic activity on Comet 29P, Schwarzman Watchman. On February 10th, the comet's nucleus abruptly brightened by more than five magnitudes, A sign that a major eruption is underway. The expanding shell of this comet is centered in this image from amateur astronomer Elliot Herman. Quote, this is one of the top five eruptions observed in the last 24 years, says Herman. It should produce a nice expanding shell. Dr. Richard Miles of the BAA, or the British Astronomical Association, believes that 29P is not an ordinary comet. In a semi-annual paper published 10 years ago, he described how 29P may have ice volcanoes that erupt dozens of times a year. Major eruptions, like this one, often come in pairs, triples, or even quadruplets. quote so all observers please watch out for more strong events in the coming hours and days says Miles 29P is currently in the constellation Leo and visible through mid-sized backyard telescopes it shines at a magnitude of about plus 12 point your optics here we have a star map for you guys to kind of get you in the right direction. Here, this is a star map of the Leo constellation and Comet 29P is at the center of this, as you can see. Now, I wanted to go over celestial object magnitudes because this is often misunderstood. I'm talking about celestial objects. A magnitude of zero is brighter than a magnitude of three. For naked eye visibility, comets generally need to reach around magnitude 3.4 in dark skies to be noticeable. But brighter, great comets can reach magnitudes of zero or even negative numbers, making them spectacular. So, the lower the number, including negative numbers, the brighter the comet actually shines. So now y'all know it all again. Please share, make sure to give us a thumbs up, and always remember that anything's possible in Bizarro World.
