The conflict between Yemen's Houthi rebels
and the Saudi-led coalition continues to escalate.
Saudi air defenses intercepted ballistic missiles and drones,
while Yemen's government forces have intensified
military operations against Houthi positions
after the Iran-backed group claimed
a new attack on Riyadh's international airport.
Saudi Arabia says its air defenses have intercepted
and destroyed three ballistic missiles
launched by the Houthis towards the kingdom's eastern province,
The coalition's spokesperson announced the interception on social media
without specifying the intended targets or reporting any casualties.
The announcement follows emergency
warnings issued by Saudi civil defense
in the eastern province and Al-Hajar's governorate.
In a separate statement,
the coalition also said its air defenses had intercepted
and destroyed four drones launched towards southern Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Yemen's government forces say they have carried
out 1,276 operations against Houthi positions over
the past 24 hours under their ongoing Dawn of Yemen offensive.
They claim that around 382 Houthi commanders
and fighters were neutralized.
Government forces have also claimed to have destroyed
or damaged 140 military vehicles and heavy weapons,
along with weapons and ammunition depots.
The operations reportedly targeted Houthi command centres,
defensive positions, reinforcements and supply lines across
several fronts, including Taiz, Al Jawf, Marib and Al Bayda.
The Houthis, meanwhile, have released footage
that they say showed the drone strikes targeting Saudi troops
and military vehicles along the Najran, Jizan and Asir border fronts.
The footage was released on Monday,
but the exact location or date of the footage has not been verified.
Adding another significant dimension
to the crisis,
the Egypt's parliament has authorized President
Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to take necessary measures
to support Saudi Arabia against Houthi attacks.
And the decision followed a request from Sisi last week for
parliamentary authorization to provide military support if requested.
Lawmakers approved the measure by two-thirds majority after three
rare closed-door meetings and two postponements of the vote.
The precise nature
of Egypt's potential military assistance remains unclear,
but a lawmaker has said that they have been assured
that any involvement would be defensive.
Egypt has one of the region's largest militaries
with substantial air power and air defense capabilities.
