AI GeneratedJeremy, a volunteer firefighter, and his wife, Krista, share the story of how Jeremy left his own wedding ceremony to respond to an emergency fire call. Despite the occasion, the severity of the situation and a shortage of available personnel led the couple to decide that Jeremy should leave to help save lives and property.
You know, firefighters sacrifice many days
and nights to keep their community safe.
But one in particular didn't think
his wedding day would be one of them.
Please welcome Jeremy and his wife, Krista.
So, Krista, you got engaged and you started planning this wedding.
Tell me how that went.
It was crazy.
Our original venue fell through kind of last minute.
I had probably two months when it fell through.
So we decided to do it at the fire station.
So, Jeremy,
as a volunteer firefighter,
how often are you called to the scene of a fire?
Well, as a volunteer, it could be anywhere from once a week
to three times a day.
So let me ask you this, man.
What was going through your mind,
and what made you decide to leave your wedding to fight a fire?
Well, the ceremony had just concluded,
and we were about to go outside and take some pictures,
and one of the alarms went off.
A couple guys came down and hopped in one of the trucks and took off.
And as time progressed, you know,
we kept taking more pictures and more pictures.
And it was September 1st, so it was Labor Day weekend.
A lot of guys were out of town.
And as, like I said, time progressed,
the call kept kind of getting worse.
They started doing what they called mutual aid calls.
We need to get this city out there, get that city out there,
because it's starting to get bigger.
And with everybody being out of town,
there really wasn't that many responding people coming in.
We just kind of looked at each other,
and we didn't even really say anything.
She's like, if you need to go, go.
So at that time, I was thinking, man,
I'm going to leave my wife at my wedding.
Over the intercom, you can hear the county dispatch
and the people on scene talking.
And you can hear the severity in their voice.
We need to get more people here now
because it's getting out of control.
So when she said, you know, go ahead and go,
I just ran to my locker, took off my clothes,
put on my bunker gear, and got on the first truck out.
Wow.
So, Krista, how did you feel about Jeremy's decision
to leave your wedding?
Well, before the wedding, I totally,
I told him, I'm like, don't even try to leave.
If there's a fire call.
She even gave me one of these.
Yeah, I was like, if there's a fire call,
you better not even try to leave.
And don't make me look like the bad guy,
because I would have to tell you you can't leave.
Just don't go.
But, like he said, you could hear the severity in their voices.
I could hear the other firefighters that were there just
talking about how, like, we need all the help we can get.
There's not enough guys there.
The house is going to be a total loss, this and that.
And I lost a niece and nephew to a house fire two years ago.
So, I would have never, even in such a severe situation,
it wasn't a second thought.
Right.
Well, I got to tell you, both of you, you're some pretty selfless
Human beings you know to give your day like that you know
a lot of people wouldn't do that. I'm gonna just be honest
So you you you've made sacrifices in your life to help other people
so to get you started off on your new life
We want to give you a wedding present
Yeah, so our friends at Bed Bath & Beyond
who have the number one wedding and gift registry in the nation,
they heard about your story
and wanted to honor your selfless act on your big day.
So they're sending you home with a $2,500 gift card.
That's good, you know.
Thank you.
Just a small token of our appreciation.
Get you some nice gifts for the house.
Thank you so much.
Make it look real nice.
Thanks for being here.
