Turn now to some other frustrated people, the coastline, right?
Some high tides expected this morning.
The beachfront communities are bracing
for yet another round of coastal flooding.
Mario Ramirez live in Huntington Beach with that story.
Mario, how's it looking now?
Hi, Sandra.
Roxy, as you can imagine, it looks like there's
a lot more water here behind me than the last time we checked in.
You can see PCH is almost completely underwater here.
We're along 10th Street.
You're looking towards Broadway, and you can see City Cruise out there.
You can see some people walking through it right now.
We've seen people biking through it, even a gentleman earlier.
Maybe you can see him down there, but, yep,
he's on a paddleboard, so he's making his way back here.
So maybe by the end of the live shot,
we'll be able to talk to him as he's making his way down.
Come over here, Kathy.
Kathy lives here at the corner.
You've been here about 20 years,
so tell me what this has been like for you.
This keeps my whole life stopped.
I can't get out of my garage, I can't, I have dogs.
I know it's not bad for everybody, but it affects us.
It affects PCH, it affects the traffic.
No, PCH is closed down now, we can't go anywhere.
I understand there's fires were bad,
but at the moment, the floods are bad.
Yeah, so you're right at the corner here.
We've been watching the water sort of seeping through
from the harbor where a lot of these beautiful boats are docked.
And you can see all the sandbags lining the area
and those city crews down there.
I've never seen this ever in my life, ever.
And they're working with pumps.
So you've been here at this corner for a while.
Well, this is my corner.
I am the PCH pajama woman.
That this is never in my life have I seen this, ever.
And this house was built in 70 by my husband, Stan Betts.
he would be flipping now or blowing in the wind as we call it.
I am shocked, but they're doing the best they can.
That's all I can ask is that they try to help us.
What else do you think can be done
because we see all these sandbags and pumps?
I think if they regrade all the sand back, there's three steps here.
So if they grade it back to how it should be,
what's the problem with that?
That means the water would stay in here.
It's not that bad of a decision.
It just takes ingenuity and engineering,
which I think Huntington doesn't have.
They've been working on that pump for 20 years, let's say.
They've done all the other ones,
they haven't done this one, and don't know why.
I was out of state when they had the meeting on October 16th,
so I can't say anything cuz
I wasn't there.
Right, yeah.
I just know how it affects me and others.
Yeah, I know.
There's some elderly people here that live here.
These homes were built in 23 and 40,
and there's some elderly people that get stuck out here
in the island, and the island's lower than us.
So I feel sorry, I feel sorry,
but thank you guys for spreading the news.
You're a good team.
Well, thank you.
You are much more than just
the PCH pajama lady, you said they call you.
Look at that Great Dane can't even get down.
His legs are in the water,
but over there by the First Team Realty, there's a Great
Dane.
I see it across by the 7-Eleven.
Oh, here's your paddler here.
Oh, yeah, before we go, guys, I hope we have time.
Ah, no, no.
So we saw you paddling out in the distance.
What's this like?
I mean, you're trying to have some fun here,
but it's a serious situation.
Take advantage of a bad situation, make it fun.
And once in a lifetime kind of ordeal here.
And I paddle here all the time,
and I've never seen the tide this high ever.
It's just pretty amazing.
It kind of says a lot about the spirit of Huntington Beach, right?
You get on a paddle board even though the neighborhood's flooding
and try to have some fun spread some joy. That's right. Yeah, it's
Got some smiles for sure today
Thanks so much as well. I'm sure from some of our viewers.
So thank you appreciate it. Yeah
All right. So yeah a lot happening out here with these floodwaters
for now. That's the latest here in Huntington Beach
Yeah, two different perspectives right there Mario making
the most of it and then making it disrupt your entire life
Unfortunately for some of those residents.
All right, Mario. We'll check back in with you later
Thank
you.
