Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Phoenix Suns face a potential first-round sweep by the Minnesota Timberwolves, putting head coach Frank Vogel's job security at risk. While some blame Vogel's lack of tactical adjustments, the core issue appears to be a flawed roster construction that prioritizes scoring over playmaking and defensive depth, leaving the team vulnerable to disciplined opponents.
We got some breaking news ahead of this Game 4 matchup as Frank Vogel
could be on the hot seat for the Phoenix Suns if they lose this game.
Adrian Wojnarowski came out on ESPN this afternoon
and said that Frank Vogel could be on the hot seat.
So we're going to be breaking down that, diving in.
Is it Frank Vogel's fault or is he the scapegoat?
All of that and more on this episode of Suns Digest.
I'm Bruce Velez, but before we dive in on all of this news,

news throughout this playoffs,
as it possibly could be over tonight, or even throughout
the offseason, there's going to be a bunch of drama, a bunch of stuff.
This is the place for you,
so hit the subscribe button for Suns Digest, but without further
ado, let's dive into the topic at hand today.
make sure to grab a snack
but it is Frank Vogel on the way out as we just mentioned in the
introduction the Suns are down three games to zero
to the Minnesota Timberwolves game four is tonight
and they could be the first
and only team to be swept in the first round and that is crazy to
think about because going into this series i felt
that we were actually going to be able to be in
this series even if we lost it would
be at least six games maybe seven but the fact that we're on
the verge of getting swept tonight is absolutely blasphemous
and Frank Vogel could be that scapegoat
could be the reason why as we see from Evan Cedary here there
is an increasing buzz around the league
the Suns will fire Frank Vogel just after one season
of being their head coach as we all know
the Suns had Monty Williams last season for a couple
of years obviously making it to the finals
it ultimately fell short for Monty couldn't really get
the rotations down wasn't working well with
this team they wanted a new coach
and didn't feel that he was the right fit they went with Frank
Vogel who had won a championship with the Phoenix Suns
and or excuse me the Los Angeles Lakers in
the bubble and i thought he was going
to be a pretty good fit for the defensive mind we all
know Frank Vogel can work very well on the defensive side
and i thought hey we have guys
like Booker we have guys like KD maybe he could
be that change of scenery get a nice defensive big
get some defensive wings and here we go
but no the Suns went out and got another score in Bradley
Beal have that three-man offense of just
a heliocentric we're just going to keep shooting
and trying to keep scoring it just hasn't worked
especially versus Minnesota Timberwolves team
who's very very solid on the defensive side very hard
for the Phoenix Suns to even get to the rim
people even get a shot contest off near the basket
or even to set up their pick and roll because they
don't have a playmaker because when Rudy Gobert goes
or Karl-Anthony Towns goes to set uh this uh go
guard the screen being set by Nurkic they'll just have McDaniels
or Nickeil Alexander-Walker come
in swarm trap and they'll get an easy steal
so again this kind of team isn't really built for
Frank Vogel in my honest opinion needs some more
wings needs some more playmakers needs like a full
new core and I don't think that Frank Vogel
is the person to blame Adrian Wojnarowski came out
on ESPN today was talking about it was mentioning
the fact that Frank Vogel could be on the hot seat
depending on the outcome of tonight's game
and regardless if it is a loss or a win I think that
he personally is the scapegoat I think that I know
a lot of Suns fans are frustrated with his
rotations in the playoffs he didn't really utilize them
in game two in game one to kind of figure out
some different game plans we did see
in game three some new utilizations we did see Josh
Okogie getting some run we did see some Bull Bull getting some run
but ultimately i don't think the
roster is built for Frank Vogel
or even built for success in this Western Conference in my honest
opinion the offense is just too centered around
scoring three-point shooting and if this offense
can't click and can't hit those shots especially
with losing Grayson Allen to this ankle injury
which has been terrible for them it just isn't looking great
for this Suns team to even be able
to handle this Timberwolves team on the offense
and on the defensive side they are not looking
the greatest so we want to I want to take a look over
at the Suns reddit to kind of see what the
fans were thinking as well so we can look
at that the first one we're going to be looking at is from
shoddy a ad7511 saying that how
is this a surprise saying Frank Vogel Frank Vogel sucks didn't make
any adjustments so the suns were down 20 in the fourth in game three
which is what i just mentioned
obviously not making many adjustments that's what the fans don't like
but i am a dragon so just kind
of wonder how much of the problem is him
and how much of the problem is our players and if he's the
problem who exactly is to replace him the plan
is to hope to get Ty Lue gets fired that's a terrible
plan and i couldn't agree more i don't think bringing
in Ty Lue is going to change anything
for this squad i don't think it's going to do much for this team
and ultimately i think a new
kind of style of coach and a very good defensive minded coach would
be very very great for this
team also overhaul the roster
and trying to get some things done i think would help us out as well
we want to look at Suns in 420 he says well
no ---- you lose in the first round with your big
three healthy heads will roll he's
the easiest scapegoat even if he's not all the problem and
that's the thing i'm not going to come out
and say that Frank Vogel is not an issue yes he sucks at
adjustments yes he doesn't run this offense how it's supposed
to be yes could he have you know
some better adjustments,
some better game plans on the defensive side to stop out.
For sure, he's a defensive-minded coach.
He should be able to handle this Minnesota Timberwolves offense
because the Suns' defense finished
around 15 towards the end of the season.
They were in the middle of the pack defensively,
so they could be able to limit this Timberwolves offense a little bit.
The Anthony Edwards, even in Game 2 when he was bad,
Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert, Jay McDaniels,
they had guys step up in the Suns.
Unfortunately, they had no one step up for them.
It was very, very bad.
And then the last one is from Trey Cartoon.
This one, I agree with basically the most from the Reddit,
saying that Frank Vogel's time as an
effective head coach is probably over.
You never know how the league is.
I don't think it's entirely Vogel's fault.
I'm sure if he had McDaniels and Gobert instead of Royce and Nurkic,
he could have done much better.
But he just wasn't the right guy for the roster we have.
I still don't know if the Suns can run it back with a big three.
I hold on to the hope that it's a big two next year.
Whether it's Book KD, Book Beal, or God forbid, Beal KD,
we're going to need a younger often offensive focus coach someone
who won't be afraid to throw
the hands in the locker room of KD
or Book says shooting the threes isn't my style
punching them in the mouth until they're shooting 10
per game it's 2024 not 2004 and i couldn't
agree more with this person here Trey Cartoon
because they brought up some valuable points
there getting an offensive minded head coach
and what i think is getting a big two i thought that
the trade for Bradley Beal was absolutely
ridiculous i thought they needed if they were
going to move off DeAndre in and they said they didn't want
a big all-time center like an offensive
one getting a defensive minded center even
a guy like Nurkic wasn't being bad in middle of the
pack center but you have to get a playmaker you
have to get a guy that's going to set up your
offensive guy that was going to take over
and transcend for Chris Paul's duties and by getting
Bradley Beal and trying to fit
that in it didn't work he wasn't healthy for the beginning of the
year this big three didn't get that many games all together
and their shooting inconsistencies
in the playoffs but in the regular season
as well just have not helped getting a big two would be
nice i know we talked about in one
of our past videos trading Devin Booker which i do not agree
on i think he is the nucleus he is the core he's
been the guy here through everything definitely
don't get rid of Devin Booker but if KD gets frustrated
because of this roster and how it's
constructed the rumors pointing to him going back
to OKC if that's going to happen and go into
fruition maybe going after a guy like Josh Giddey
or Jalen Williams if they're willing to give up
one of those guys or even both of those guys
to get some draft capital as well wouldn't be bad
because I don't think many teams are going to take Bradley Beal on.
We mentioned in another video as well,
David Aldridge talked about how the Wizards
were happy to move off of Bradley Beal's contract.
I think the Suns were a team that didn't
expect him to have this type of season,
expect him to have a better offensive season,
which was absolutely blasphemous.
After having his injuries, seeing him be a number two,
barely number one option for Washington,
you have to realize that he's not going to be that all-star
and that all-time type caliber dude for this Suns squad.
You had to know he was going to be inefficient.
had to know that it wasn't going to really work
and even if it was going to work have them run
the two three yet you need another point guard
in my honest opinion that's what this team needs it
needs someone to run this offense it needs someone to facilitate
and hopefully they can move off of
a guy in Bradley Beal that's the guy i'd be looking
to move off of but with having no draft capital to
attach to a dead end contract to a guy that's aging
and is making a bunch of money i don't
think that it's going to be possible
and i think that if this team is to move off of anybody it's
going to have to be either Booker or KD
or they're going to have to move around the edges but i don't
even think moving around the edges is gonna be able
to do anything because we're a second apron
team we're gonna have to do salary match
or salary match it's going to be very very difficult so in
my honest opinion I don't know if it's all all
the worst with firing Frank Vogel and kind of confused
on what this team has to do in the future
so which kind of leads to our second part point of the
video which is it his fault kind of looking
at Frank Vogel kind of breaking it down are we blaming
him are we all going to go in on him like I mentioned
a little bit earlier I do think that
he's a little bit of the scapegoat hasn't made
the adjustments for this team you know we need a
better offensive minded coach to run this offense
and kind of figure out what's going to work for
these guys but in my honest opinion I think he's
a little bit of a scapegoat I think that this
roster construction is just absolutely terrible again
not having many wings besides Kevin Durant
and like what Grayson Allen
and Eric Gordon they aren't wings they're twos like you need defensive
wings having Royce O'Neale was nice getting him was solid
but I think that getting a better defensive
wing would have been better possibly looking
at some of those guys in the offseason would
definitely be a move for my opinion getting some
veteran defensive guys to help out at the wing
position if you're looking to bring it back
and run it back with this nucleus and then ultimately
we'll have to wait and see but looking at how
the Suns have been this season we can see offensively
10 points per game rebounds 10th assist 10th or 12th
and offensive points per game 13th we'd love
to see them in more offensive points per game
because they have that big three of obviously
Booker KD and Beal who are really good scorers
so again underperforming there as well but injuries
happened to this team to where they weren't able
to play all throughout with each other
but we look at the shooting split shooting splits
for the playoffs they're absolutely atrocious as
well Devin Booker has been able to hit
his threes Booker has been very inconsistent even though
Booker was the leading scorer in game three the day
the team just looked lazy it didn't look like
it wanted to be out there they tried their best they
at least scored over 100 points in that game
but again it's just not going to cut it Anthony
Edwards just looked too killer on that offensive
the defensive side and we just look like we don't want to be there
and that's very very frustrating
hopefully tonight we can avoid the sweep i desperately
do not want to be the one team
that goes out in a sweep in the first round
so the Suns need this win so we don't have all this
drama but if it is the last game of the season tonight
if we do watch this team play one last
time this could be the last time we see this big three together
or possibly one of these or
possibly any Frank Vogel's last game as well
so let me know what you guys think down below in the
comment section do you guys think it's Frank
Vogel's fault let me know what you guys think I
personally do give him some blame
but I don't want to throw it all on him I do think the roster
construction is the main issue
and that's the thing that the Suns are gonna have to try to fix
this offseason thank you guys
