WNBA Finals: Valkyries on brink of championship title

Call in sick. Yeah, I recommend it. Yeah, right. Like y'all know how to fake a cough and then we all do that. Yeah, fake a cough. A message from the Golden State Valkyries stars, Kia Stokes, Veronica Burton, right to their fans. Call in sick. Now, we're not recommending you actually do this on Thursday, but their comments yesterday were in reference to the early tip off time scheduled for game six of the WNBA finals. That game between the Valks and the Dream Thursday morning in Atlanta. It is a nine thirty in the morning tip off here out west breakfast game all right after just two seasons in the league the Valkyries are just one win away from a WNBA championship and despite that early start for game six there are some options for fans who want to cheer on their team KTV's Christian captain joins us live from Chase Center tonight Christian we want to know people are saying about thursday's early game we also want to know if you're going to show up for work tomorrow yeah you know what i gotta say guys our cover is totally blown mike you're killing me man you know How am I supposed to call in sick on Thursday morning now, dude? What are you doing to me, bud? It's fine. Don't worry about it. I'll talk to the bosses. It's all good. As you guys said, that game set for 9.30 on Thursday morning. That's 12.30 Atlanta time. Still a very early start. But fans, guys, they are saying that will not slow them down. They say that they are going to be ready Thursday morning. After an amazing victory at home over the Atlanta Dream, the Golden State Valkyries are now just one game away from making WNBA history. Fans who were at the game Monday said it was thrilling. I brought my seven-year-old daughter, and she had such a fun time. It's just so loud in there, and everyone is in such a great mood. Fans say they're ready for Game 6, despite a 12.30 p.m. Atlanta or 9.30 a.m. California tip-off time to accommodate the Atlanta Hawks who play Thursday night. The Valkyries coach said she's confident despite the unusual time, fans will show up and show out. So our fans, I ain't worried about it. Our fans are going to show up, show out. And like I said, we play for them because they show up, show out. They don't ever miss a beat. Fans say they'll be there, but they're also sharing their frustration with the early start. I get that they're trying to cater to East Coast time, but still 12:30 for an East Coast game is like ridiculous like they got to do better Atwater Tavern located just down the road from Valhalla said it's showing its pride in the team and saying they're making adjustments right now to make sure fans feel welcome Thursday morning in the finals after just two years of two seasons it's just fantastic we're riding the wave man you know it was a violent wave down here last night the tavern is already working on its brunch menu it's breakfast menu brunch menu so the mimosas will be going we have some Valkyrie drink you know we have cocktail a cocktail and an and a mocktail and you can also expect a lot of those Valkyries fans right here at Thrive City on Thursday morning at 9:30 for tip off there will be having a watch party here now speaking of watch party you might notice that there's a big crowd around me this is not early Valkyries fans these folks are here for Phoebe Bridgers that concert gets underway at 7:30 now back to the Valkyries one final note guys about saying that they want to get this knocked out in Atlanta as much as we'd all love to see them close out the series in a game seven at Chase Center which would be amazing the Valks say they can't give the Dream an inch on this, that's how tough we're talking about the dream have been playing, you guys been watching those games, you know those ladies in Atlanta, they came to play so the Valkyries saying they want to get this done on Thursday close this series out as a done deal and get this one in the history book, I mean we know the players want to finish it in six but what about the fans, what do you, I mean selfishly they're like ah, if they lose it's okay because right behind you we could have a game seven that would be fun to watch to see them clinch the WNBA title right here in San Francisco, or are they agreeing with the players and saying, hey, get it done in Atlanta? Mike, you know as well as I do, how many times do we have to go through the heartbreak with the Giants, where they would just extend it and just punish us? You know what? I haven't done an official poll. I think fans just want the W. They want it done now. Let's get that one in the books, and let's just go. Bring the trophy home on the plane. I mean, it would be cool to win at Chase. You know what's even cooler? Just to win. Just to win. Bring home a championship. Just to win. Just to win. Let's just get this done. And, hey, guys, yeah, it would be fantastic, right? And it would continue our winning ways here. We've seen so much success out at Golden State Warriors. We've seen great success with the Giants. I mean, let's go. Let's get it going. I mentioned this last night, but the Giants in 10, 12, and 14, they won the World Series on the road, and to this day, no one ever talks about that. We just know that they're three-time champs. That's right. There we go. Let's just get it done. Put a bow on it. All right. Thanks, Christian.
