They are the absolute classic hangover championship team.
I mean, they're still celebrating like they won
a championship yesterday.
I mean, it is just, this is going to last all,
they could go 0-82 and there won't be a Nick fan crying.
That's how big it was last year and just so overwhelming to think
that this team was going to be focused at the start of this year.
I didn't think so.
So they're 0-3.
They have yet to cover a game.
They host Detroit tonight.
uh they blew a 10 point lead against Orlando
on Sunday ended up uh you know losing uh Magic
end of the game on a nice little 35
and 16 run they're laying four three and a half four uh you
see the first three games there you know they lost it
and two of those were at home right um
so i i do think though they break
the streak tonight i think they get the win they get the
cover i told myself was gonna bet against them
every single game every uh all year and i'd be
pretty confident i'd be on the winning side of things right
but i think i'm gonna buck that
trend i think the knicks
who lost last year to Detroit all three games by an average of over
25 points that they whacked last year
the Knicks Detroit did to the Knicks so but maybe that's
what they need to kind of get out of their funk
so i like the Knicks tonight laying the four yeah i
think going into the season uh going
into the playoffs the knicks were a surprise as the
playoffs went on it was not a surprise
the knicks appeared to be the best team in the NBA as the
playoffs went on but it was a rare scenario I thought
in the NBA where you asked me about
Milwaukee usually when a team wins a championship you start
the first question is do you think this
team's going to win again and my answer immediately would have
been no like I thought the Knicks were
very fortunate NBA champion but when the Lakers were winning theirs
and Oklahoma City was winning
theirs and Golden State was winning theirs
and even as you mentioned with Giannis or Denver like
I was like okay yeah I could see them winning again
but for me the Knicks were one of those
teams where yes they can win another championship
but I always felt like this is probably a
one and done in terms of uh winning it all
so as far as New York is concerned the idea of betting
against them makes a lot of sense all season long too
because the lines are going to be inflated
especially in October
and November the way that they came out by the way also looking at that
not being completely familiar as familiar with you
or Joe with the NBA with with some of the
coverage that I have here seeing the fact that they lost to Boston
and Philadelphia should give
you a little bit of hope like okay like they still have
to play them a lot but those are two tough
teams that they lost to that lost
to Orlando without Banchero inexcusable how did that happen
no idea you probably watched closer than I did
but that's the one as far as the Heat is concerned
um so that obviously I watch a lot closer
and uh you know the the issue with the Heat seemingly
is yes you're right they don't have anyone off the bench
but the deal Scott, if you really think
about it, the Heat never has anybody off the bench until they
do, so what does that mean? It means that
the Heat is the best team in the NBA bar none
at finding guys that are nobodies that end up getting
max contracts in the NBA
because they cultivate, they have this culture, they find who is this max
Strus, he's getting paid a lot of money
who is this Bam Adebayo, he's a nobody, he's a max
contract guy too, who 10 years ago
who was, who the heck was Hassan Whiteside, where they find this guy
he signs with Portland max contract too
so who was that guy on Miami, I think they're gonna find
somebody, I think they're gonna have a Jaime Jaquez
or whatever by the end of the year they're gonna
get those guys, but but it's going to take some time
and the question is Scott, are they going to
bury themselves before they even have a chance
to do that, so to your point the idea that the Heat
would win the championship
and I you know it's a sleeper to win the championship was absurd, I mean
that that was just crazy and now you have
to ask yourself, forget about the bench and forget about
the guys that they may have coming off
that they could find, can these two guys play together
and Bam Adebayo and Giannis play together maybe
and maybe everything will be fine in a month but
right now Scott, it looks like the biggest uh problem
of any team in the NBA having these two
big guys in one basketball in one lane uh i mean Bam
who had 80 points in a game i think he had
like 10 last night for the game before that so i i i
am uh skeptical as to whether or not that this
could be a contending type team
but as we know in the NBA if Miami can just win their 40 something
games find a way to get in a play-in find
a way to win some games and get hot at the end
the NBA rewards you for that which is why i think
the NBA playoff system is disgusting
adding those play-in games it's like just insane 12 teams get
in and it's like nobody's good at
the back end and that's what i hope baseball does
not do i do not want to see baseball do
that i hope they keep that the same they can add more games
