Hi, everybody. Welcome. First at 10 on Fox Local here.
A teenage girl fighting for her life
at a hospital in Northern Virginia.
She was struck by a car on the way to school this morning.
It's our big story tonight here at 10.
Fox's Shamari Stone is live from Haymarket with the story tonight.
Well, it's just so devastating.
This family of this 14-year-old girl is praying tonight.
She is at a hospital. She has critical injuries.
She had surgery, but she was awake,
but she has serious injuries such as internal bleeding.
She's injured to her pelvic area.
She has serious scrapes and bruises.
That accident happened in this area right here.
Let's show you some more video about what we have.
This photo showing the scene after the crash.
The 14-year-old 9th grader was hit
while waiting to get on her school bus to go to Gainesville High School
in the area of Heathcote Boulevard
and Legend Drive in Haymarket around 6.45 this morning.
That's when police say a car hit
her and that driver stayed on the scene.
And then the teen's family says another car hit her,
but that one kept on going.
Tonight, police are investigating and say that car may be involved.
They do not have a description.
Meanwhile, people who live near where
the crash happened feel sad for the family.
You live right where this happened. How are you feeling tonight?
Uh, it's very upsetting, you know, uh,
just waking up in the early morning, hearing screams
and coming out to see this young lady laying on the floor like that.
It was, it was devastating.
Um, you know, just, it's, it's a terrible situation.
What happened?
Thank God.
I'm hoping she's better and I hope we
hear back from the relatives soon.
And some people who live in this neighborhood tell me
that there are cars and trucks that
just treat this roadway here.
Like it is just a speedway.
The speed limit is 45, but some people are going 55.
In fact, right before our live shot,
there was a car that was just speeding past here.
And some folks would like to see a stop sign
or maybe even some type of school zone
because they say that kids wait for school buses here.
Now, the principal of Gainesville High School reached out
to the family of this 14-year-old girl to offer support.
If you have any information about what happened out here this morning,
call the Prince William County Police Department.
I'm Shamari Stone in Haymarket.
Back to you.
