Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Kansas City Chiefs are actively seeking a wide receiver before the trade deadline to address critical injuries and poor production. Reports suggest star receiver Garrett Wilson is a primary target and considers the Chiefs his top landing spot, potentially providing Patrick Mahomes with a long-term elite target as the team looks to maximize its championship window.
Chiefs are 5-1 and they are actively working
the phones as they desperately need a wide
receiver but a wild new report has just dropped surrounding
their pursuit of star wide receiver
Garrett Wilson that not only has fans very intrigued
but has some pretty big implications
as we approach the trade deadline.
We're going to break down the new report, discuss what it
means going forward as well as a ton
of other updates on this episode as folks things are
getting real surrounding Garrett Wilson and the Chiefs.
Let's dive right into it because this
didn't come out of nowhere.
Now, on Monday, Adam Schefter went in the Pat McAfee show and said this
about the Chiefs. Quote, you know,
they've been calling around. I don't think it would be a
surprise to see them continue to attempt to add
a wide receiver before the trade deadline. Then
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said the same thing.
Almost word for word, the Chiefs are, quote, calling
around at least to see what they could potentially add.
Two insiders, the same day, the same message.
It's no longer a rumor. It is a team shopping for a wide receiver.
And we all know why, right?
Tyquan Thornton he's on injured reserve he's
gonna miss three to four months Rasheed Rice
while progressing is still out with a hamstring injury
and we don't know exactly what we're gonna
get from him when he's back and most importantly Sunday against
the Seattle Seahawks in a huge
prime time Sunday night game
the wide receivers completely I mean they were underwhelming three
points 39 yards six catches
and Patrick Mahomes wasn't able to get them the ball at all clock is
running on this the trade deadline
is now just two weeks away from today it is November 10th
So who are they calling about?
There's been some rumblings about Brian Thomas Jr.
There's been some rumblings about George Pickens, Jerry Judy.
However, folks, Garrett Wilson is a name
that I think a lot of Chiefs fans are interested in.
But also, reports are starting to fly surrounding him.
It started with Russell Wilson because on NFL on CBS, he said,
I'm going to go get Garrett Wilson if I am the Chiefs.
He said he'd be great in the Andy Reid style of offense
and the Chiefs haven't had a receiver like him.
And yesterday, CBS Sports reported it as a full story.
Garrett Wilson's top landing spot,
number one on the list, is the Kansas City Chiefs.
Tyler Sullivan writes, quote,
Kansas makes a ton of sense as a potential destination,
and that Wilson would be a long-term option
for Mahomes if Travis Kelsey retires.
And I'll go further, and I'll say even if he doesn't retire,
Garrett Wilson would be an absolute long-term fit for this team,
and I think it would actually be a very good fit
with the Andy Reid offense pair of Patrick Mahomes.
Why would the Jets even entertain a Garrett Wilson trade?
It's pretty clear Sunday things got ugly.
The Jets lost 28-25 to a Dolphins team that hadn't won a game all year.
They're now 2-5, and their best player got three targets,
two catches, good for only 26 yards.
Cameras caught him yelling in a huddle with Geno Smith
and the passing game coordinator,
and after the game, he said, quote,
We were collaborating.
And when he was asked about the fans, he said this,
I don't blame them.
I'm frustrated.
Collaborating?
Sure, when your number one receiver says
that he's frustrated in public to the media,
it's clear that a trade is brewing out of New York.
Let's not forget last year.
At the deadline, the same front office traded Sauce Gardner
to the Colts for two first-round
picks months after making him the highest-paid corner in football.
Same afternoon, Quinn and Williams to Dallas for a first and a second.
So it's clear that no one is untouchable,
no matter how untouchable they may seem.
There's been some rumblings about whether or not,
you know, the Athletics reported that
the Jets have no intention
of trading him right now unless he pushes for a move.
And guess what might be around the corner?
Pushing for a move.
And also, Jason Lacomfora talked to an executive whose team
is in the receiver market, and that exec called Wilson,
quote, a player who could be obtained at the deadline.
Teams always say no until an offer is good enough.
Ask Saskern.
Here's why it makes sense for the Chiefs, right?
They aren't the only team on the CBS list.
Number two is San Francisco.
The 49ers are 6-1.
They have Deebo Samuel, Mike Evans, both hurt.
And there are other teams that need a wide receiver as well.
That's a six-and-one team, a Super Bowl caliber,
a Super Bowl winning team that's desperate for a wide receiver
who's also going to be bidding for Garrett Wilson.
There's also the Raiders on the list.
So if the Chiefs pass, Garrett Wilson could end up
in their own division lined up against them twice a year until 2030.
And a talent like Garrett Wilson doesn't really come around that often.
And when we think about it, right, like I know a lot of Chiefs
fans right now are talking about, OK, who's actually available?
Is there any superstar wide receivers?
I don't know if I'd call Garrett Wilson
a superstar, but he has star potential.
he is an extremely good wide receiver
so if the chiefs want him it's not like you're going out
and getting somebody who is a rental
and is not going to be very good you don't know what you're
going to get it's like i'm not like
a Marvin Harrison Jr. even a Brian Thomas Jr. situation
he is a proven talent, a talent that i think
is actually a perfect fit i want to have him do one
number as to why i should explain why he's such
a good perfect fit he has 444 receiving yards this
season the chief's current leader is travis kelsey with 343
and the best wide receiver
Tyquan Thornton 219 he's on the IR Wilson would
instantly instantly propel this offense and he has
more yards than anyone on the Chiefs
on a very messy New York Jets offense the last time the
Chiefs had a wide receiver hit a thousand yards
was Tyreek Hill back in 2021 and since 2023 no one's
really gotten close not Kelsey not anybody
and in those same years guess what Garrett Wilson he's
done it three times this isn't a hot seven games let's look
at Garrett Wilson's first three years
1100 yards 1000 yards 1100 yards
and he did that with Zach Wilson throwing the ball folks Garrett
Wilson is a very very good player that being said he's going
to cost a ton but you think about what
Andy Reid does what does he do he wins with guys
who separate I mean ultimately Garrett Wilson is
an extremely good route runner and that's
his number one goal he's the kind of receiver who's
open before the ball is out and you pair that with one
of the best quarterbacks in the league
again of all time in Patrick Mahomes
who throws to guys who are open for a living obviously
you're in a very very good spot but Russell Wilson
also made one sneaky good point he talked about
how the Chiefs finally have a real running back
in Kenneth Walker which opens up play action
so if defenses can't sit back with two safeties deep anymore
that's exactly where a receiver like
Garrett Wilson will shine
and then there's the long game as well Kelsey's 37 every year there's
rumblings about whether or not it's going to be his last year
when he walks away Mahomes is going
to need a number one target and wilson is signed through 2030
so that's the whole point it's not a
rental you're getting a guy
in his prime right now it's pretty clear to me but also look at the
contract he signed a four-year 130 million dollar extension last year
which is pretty steep right
but the reason it's so important is that his cap hit
this season is only about 10 million next year
23 million then it jumps up to 36 million in 2028
which means the chiefs would be getting a three
time 1,000-yard receiver at a $10 million cap hit this year.
And with the season already underway,
they'd only take what's left of it pro-rated.
For the Jets, obviously, trading him is going
to be brutal, but they're going to have a little bit of dead money.
But they're going to ask for
a lot of picks. And let me tell you,
it's going to cost the Chiefs a lot. But the Chiefs do have
their own first and second in 2027, plus two-thirds.
But the one problem is, and we got to
talk about it, we can't pretend it's not there,
the Chiefs only have about $3.6 million in cash
face right now they can't just absorb him money has
to go back to new york but brett veach has
done this exact same thing before we think back
to october of 2024 rishi rice and hollywood brown
were both on injured reserve
and the chiefs traded for deandre hopkins now very different type of
receiver he only required
a conditional fifth titans paid 2.5 million of the 8 million left
on his salary to make it work
and wilson's gonna cost a lot more than a fifth but the blueprint is
there get the other team to eat some money
and the cap problem goes away the question will be
will the Jets do that I sure want to ask you guys
do you think the Chiefs are going to be able to
go out and get Garrett Wilson but more importantly
do you think it would be worth the price it's
going to cost first round picks it's going
to cost second round picks maybe a player or two
but at the end of the day they do need to figure out
a solution to this not just for this season
but long term as well you cannot waste Patrick Mahomes
in his prime I mean the every year that
this team doesn't win a Super Bowl is one year
that you know is really a big setback and ever
since Tyree Kill left you got traded I guess
to the Dolphins you haven't had an a thousand yard
season receiver that's what you need it's
been four years since you had one Garrett Wilson would
immediately slide into that guy he's
a frustrated star leverage could be made and it seems now a lot
more reporters are coming out than ever revealing
the chiefs are probably the number one destination
for the superstar let me know down below you guys are beast cheers
