Tonight, a San Francisco man
who devoted his life to helping others is being remembered
after he was killed in a hit and run in the Tenderloin.
Justin Randall worked at Glide,
where he helped some of the city's most vulnerable residents.
KTVU's Betty Yu, live outside SFPD
headquarters tonight with that story.
Betty?
Claudine, San Francisco police have made
an arrest in this deadly hit and run that took
the life of this young man and father of three.
Tonight, his colleagues at Glide are struggling to believe he's gone.
Early Sunday, Justin Randall,
a young man who devoted his life to helping others, lost his own.
The father of three lived in San Francisco's Tenderloin,
working as a community safety worker at Glide.
Since I've been at Glide, I saved about six,
seven lives already with Narcan.
Just after 1 a.m. Sunday,
police say he was struck by a car on Ella Street near Polk.
The driver fled, and Justin died from his injuries at the hospital.
Surveillance video shows a person running, then a small group rushing
to help before police and emergency crews arrive.
I'm feeling very sad.
I'm feeling like we've lost one of our most important employees
at Glide, one of the people who personified Glide's values.
Randall spent two years at Glide.
We build relationships with a lot of the clients,
so most of the time we know the clients by name.
We do three meals a day that we just supervise.
He was recently promoted to assistant manager
at Glide's Transitional Age Youth Health and Wellness Center,
where he inspired young people.
I think Justin was really passionate about helping people
because he had experienced some of the challenges
that our clients and the people in San Francisco here
in the Tenderloin experience every day.
So he knew that he had put his life on the right track
and he was doing all the right things for himself and his family.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover Justin's funeral expenses
and provide financial support for his three young sons.
I'll always remember how important it was to him to be a good father.
He loved his children with all of his heart.
A co-worker shared an emotional tribute on Facebook,
recalling how Justin supported his son through struggles with fentanyl.
He wrote that Justin regularly checked on his son,
even while facing challenges of his own.
He ended his prayer request with these words.
Salute, Justin Randall.
You will always have a place in my heart
because you loved mine like I did.
Such a young man, such a vibrant man, such a generous man,
such a naturally humble man, full of love.
And Glide says it will be holding a celebration
of life for Justin this Sunday at 9 a.m.
Everyone in the community is welcome.
Now, as for the suspect, San Francisco police said
that they tracked the vehicle to Treasure Island
where CHP had pulled over a woman for an unrelated traffic violation.
That woman was arrested on suspicion of homicide.
Her name has not yet been released.
Claudine?
Yes, such a senseless loss.
Certainly our thoughts with Justin's family and friends tonight.
Thank you so much, Betty.
