AI GeneratedFans of the Brewers and Rays are facing the dilemma of whether to return home or stay for Game 5 of the World Series. Many fans, particularly those from Milwaukee, are choosing to rebook flights and stay in Tampa Bay, citing the thrill of the series and surprisingly lower overall costs compared to attending games in their own home city.
A lot of fans of both teams
who traveled here for the game are facing a tough decision,
head home or stay for game five.
Some of them are even making that decision after they arrive
at Tampa International Airport for their flight home.
That is where we find FOX 13's Aaron Mesmer
tonight. Aaron, you've talked with a bunch
of fans about the game and their plans. What are
they telling you? Well, first of all, Lyndon Haley,
I mean, they can't stop talking about
that exciting 12th inning last night.
It doesn't matter really who you're rooting for. It was just
a thrilling game to watch.
But then some of them came here on very little sleep to try to catch
their flights the next morning.
And then a lot of them turned right around and headed back to St.
Pete for game five. We talked with a group of Brewers fans
who did just that. They say they
got here, then they found tickets for about $750 a piece,
so they decided to push back their
flights. A second group of Milwaukee fans had a very similar story.
They came here to the airport,
rebooked their flights, and then headed back to the Trop.
And yeah, there are also some Rays fans
from other parts of the country who didn't want to miss the chance
to see their team in the World Series.
A dad from Mississippi says they became Rays fans
because he's friends with first base coach Corey Dickerson,
so he decided to make it a memorable trip with his young son.
I've got a little 8-year-old little boy here,
and we decided to come down and have a little father-son trip
and make some good memories.
It doesn't get much better than that.
Yeah, we got to the airport and then looked at tickets for tonight
and said, wow, we should just stay.
So we rearranged everything, rearranged flights,
going to go check into an Airbnb now,
work really hard all day from our laptops,
and then go to the game tonight.
Yeah, here's something else we're hearing from Brewers fans,
and it's confirming some of these rumors
that we'd heard toward the beginning of this series
that even after airfare, lodging, food, game tickets,
it was still cheaper for some of them to go
to a World Series game here in Tampa Bay than in Milwaukee.
Listen to this.
We were looking at ticket prices in Milwaukee,
and they were, I think, minimum like $2,500.
And we looked at flight prices, Airbnbs, and then tickets to the game.
And for one person individually, it was substantially less than that.
So we said, why not? We may never make it back. First time in my life.
So, yeah, let's pull the trigger and go.
So to add all of that together,
it's still cheaper than going to a game where you're from in Milwaukee.
Exactly, yeah.
Yeah, the outcome of last night's game
also had an immediate impact on the airport's departure schedule.
Ten flights to Milwaukee were canceled, and those would have
been reserved for the team, their fans, and their families, of course.
But we're hoping the airport's going to be busy tomorrow
with folks heading back to Milwaukee,
maybe for Rays fans and Milwaukee fans, maybe for game six.
We can only hope, right, guys?
But either way, Aaron, this has been a win
for the city of St. Petersburg because
everyone, well, not everyone, but you said
a lot of people turned around and went back.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Exactly.
They're eating,
they're drinking, they're spending the night, they're doing
all of it.
Certainly Ferg's is making bank on that.
For sure.
All right.
Thanks, Aaron.
