A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Peru on December 27th. Reported by various global agencies, the quake occurred at a depth of approximately 66 kilometers in a region known for its extensive volcanic ridge. The event released significant energy, equivalent to 1.9 atomic bombs, affecting much of Peru and drawing attention to current geomagnetic activity.
James Coppin, World News Report today.
Ladies and gentlemen,
we have a 6.2 magnitude earthquake that popped off in Peru.
USGS says this quake came in at 6.2 magnitude,
TYFI 5.6 on a shake map, depth of 6.4 kilometers.
Right there in the Peruvian-Chilean wedge,
a volcanic park, if you will.
Definitely a volcanic ridge with, well, over 20,000 volcanoes
from the north part of South America to the southern tip.
All right, here we are jumping around.
Saw that earlier 6.6, 6.7 over near Taiwan,
and we're on top of this 6.2, maybe larger, in Peru.
Let's get some detailed information.
62, 66 kilometers.
Would you even have doubted it of depth?
And, well, the USGS is the main reporting source.
Raspberry Shake came in at 6.0.
And it looks like, believe it or not, this is the Chinese contractor,
the Southern Geophysical Corporation, owned exclusively by China.
They have a lot of ports in the Peruvian area
at 6.0 at 52 kilometers of depth.
So we have a very strong earthquake here in the Americas,
a 6.2 magnitude earthquake.
It looked like it popped off about seven hours ago.
Some earthquake details, USGS being
our primary source, 102 reports and increasing.
1.9 atomic bombs worth of energy released here.
Wow.
Again, at 6.2, it's 66 kilometers.
Go figure.
All right, so there we go.
Just offshore here, off the Peruvian shore here,
and it's still coming in as a 6.2 December 27th.
Just a few hours ago,
depth is sustaining at 66 kilometers of depth.
And it affected most of Peru and actually,
well, a very big, big bang.
All right, comparing quake data from different foreign agencies.
USGS in at 6.2, 66 kilometers of depth.
We've got Germany coming in at 5.9,
and that's a default depth of 10 kilometers.
Raspberry Shake coming in at 6.0 default depth
as well we have the Colombian geological services
in conjunction with the Chinese government coming
in at 6.0, 52 kilometers of depth
we're looking at the well
the French coming in at 5.66 plus
or minus 0.2, 7 default depth
We've got the Europeans coming in at 6.2, 66 kilometers of depth.
The Incorporated Research Institute for Seismology coming in at 6.2,
also at 66 kilometers of depth.
We've got the Italians coming in at a 6.1,
plus or minus 0.2, 30 kilometers of depth.
I think that about, well, besides the Australians,
coming in at 6.1, 72 kilometers of depth.
a little bit deeper this asterisk
and a depth given as 10 kilometers often means the depth of
the quake could not be determined with sufficient accuracy
so we're coming up to the double superior
conjunction it's going to be a time to remember the 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th
and 9th of january but
But we're already seeing a huge uptick
because of the geomagnetic connections between Earth, the sun,
the moon, and all the opposing planets and Jupiter behind us.
That said, summary, a 6.2 magnitude earthquake coming
in right there off the shore in Peru,
coming in at 66 kilometers, give or take.
And, obviously, a serious earthquake that can make
its way up to North America with all that energy.
We'll have to see how that works out.
It usually does not.
God bless.
