New information about a tragic story we first brought you on Monday,
the death of a four-year-old boy in southwest Atlanta.
We now know how Colby Cooks died,
and we're learning his five-year-old brother, Caden Cooks,
is in critical condition at an area hospital.
Fox 5's Angelique Proctor joins us from the Fulton County Jail with more.
Angelique?
Well, good evening to you both.
What a sad situation.
We learned today that four-year-old Colby Cooks actually died
from blunt force trauma.
We also learned that his manner of death is homicide.
Now, we talked to a family friend who says that both the boys
and their mother were all trapped in a very bad situation.
She was under literally the control of a monster.
Fox 5 News confirmed four-year-old Kobe Cook's mother left her two sons
with her friend Yasmeen Smoke while the mother was in jail.
We talked with a family friend
who is in touch with the boy's mother, Amanda Malone Walker.
The friend says Walker loved her sons very much and trusted her friend,
Yasmeen, to take care of them.
Family friend, Destiny Acuna, says Amanda and her sons lived
with her the summer of 2025, so she got to know them very well.
She says she suspected things were not going well with Amanda
and her sons once they moved in with suspect smoke.
Amanda did not have a mind of her own.
I'm gonna be honest I love Amanda I would do anything for Amanda
and her kids and her story
has to be told because she's not even here
to tell what's what was going on she's in Clark
County right now she has to go to Noonan
and she should be released she says both boys were
innocent children she is horrified by Colby's death
and Caden's injuries I just seen a video
of Caden. His dad posted him.
Someone screen shared it to me and his eyes are black and swollen.
His head is swollen from, I guess, being hit in the head.
His body has always had marks on it since
they were in the care of Jasmine.
And Ms. Acuna says that Caden's father is there with him at his
hospital bedside. Tonight, the family is asking for prayers,
but not only prayers, they're asking
for financial help, they have started a GoFundMe.
That is the very latest from the Fulton County
Jail. Angelique Proctor, Fox 5 News.
