There is some type of closure given that, you know,
they're finally, we're going to get the justice that we deserve.
Now to a story you'll see only on Fox 9.
We are now just over a month away
from the Fort Hood shooter's execution.
That attack left 13 people dead,
including a soldier from North St. Paul.
And his widow plans to travel to Texas
to witness the shooter's execution.
Fox 9's Mike Manzoni spoke with her today, and Mike,
she only recently decided to make that trip there.
Yes, she supports the shooter's death sentence
but does not like the idea of a firing squad
and she's glad that the military decided
against live streaming it still.
She wants to take the opportunity to face
her husband's murderer one last time.
He was a great guy, very funny, loving, you know, family guy.
Private First Class Kam Jong was just 23 when he died.
It happened 17 years ago next week.
In just over a month, the military will execute his murderer,
former Army psychiatrist Nadal Hassan,
and Zhang's wife and their three children will be there.
What will it mean to you to watch him die?
I think it will finally bring me some kind of closure.
At first, she wasn't sure if she wanted
to travel to Texas to witness the execution.
For one thing, she knows what it's like
to be in the same room with her husband's killer.
She gave a victim impact statement
at his court-martial more than a decade ago.
It was almost overwhelming just to face him.
She also doesn't like the way they're going to kill him.
I think that the firing squad is still too inhumane.
Why ultimately did you decide that it's important
for you to be at the execution?
It is important because I think that I want to see him.
I want to face him one last time but even
when her husband's murderer is gone it won't change
that part of her world is too my daughter she's you know 21
and I'm sure she's going to get married
soon and she's not going to have her father daughter dance
and my boys grew up not having
a dad to teach them simple things like you know
fixing cars going fishing or you know sports or
things like that. So it definitely impact our lives a lot.
Yeah. And that execution is set for
December 3rd at Fort Hood in Texas,
the site of the 2009 mass shooting. Randy Kelsey.
