What started as a dream retirement at sea turned
into a nightmare for cruise passengers
who were suddenly given just seven hours notice to disembark.
Fox News correspondent Dana Marie McNichol has more.
Hundreds of passengers were left stranded
in Cambodia after their luxury cruise ship
suspended its years-long voyage due to rising fuel costs.
It happened aboard the MV Odyssey,
which set sail from Ireland two years ago,
offering lifetime suites and a trip around the world.
You come to this ship and you go to live and you start living
and people are getting better and better all the time.
But in a statement,
the ship's Florida-based operator says monthly fuel expenses jumped
from around $1,800 per cabin to as high as $8,000 in parts of Asia.
Adding, quote, passing the full increase onto residents
is not a realistic solution.
Our focus now is on supporting residents, crew and employees.
Though one passenger suggests there were other factors involved.
I don't think it was solely because of the fuel costs.
There were financial problems before.
The ship says it's helping people find temporary accommodations,
but some say they've been left in the dark.
We had a seven-hour period to remove our belongings
and ourselves off the ship.
It comes as oil prices climbed
to their highest level since May at around $116 per barrel.
But in his pitch to midterm voters,
President Trump says costs will go down after the election,
due in part to expanding domestic supply.
The ones we care about are our people at the pump.
And those numbers are going to start coming down very, very rapidly.
Cambodian officials say the ship is scheduled
to refuel before leaving Cambodia on Saturday.
